Just like magic, I’m back up again!

Did you miss me or did you not know I was off the radar? No worries, I’m going to get my random on while bringing you up to speed. For almost a week, THIS blog had issues….serious issues.

It started October 1st when my newest edition of #BOTB did not deliver to my inbox. This acts as a safety net of sorts alerting to me possible problems. I immediate checked to see if it posted. It did, so I didn’t think much about it until no one left comments. That was totally odd and completely out of the norm because #BOTBers are excellent to play along. This is when I discovered comments were disappearing on the blog side and I couldn’t leave them on the admin side.

There was a flag notice for WordPress update and I thought maybe this would fix the problem. Unfortunately, it didn’t resolve the comment issue.  I couldn’t reach Arvixe Tech Support by phone or live chat. The wait was unreal. I have not experienced them being this busy ever.  Did a plugin mess up my site? Or, was it the work of a hacker targeting the server? My imagination was going full throttle, all I could think about was what if they suffered a complete database meltdown. That’s just about the awfullest thing a blogger can envision, right?

I was ready to start a fresh with a new temporary blog and who knows I may still change, but between last night’s trouble ticket issued and actually talking to someone today I think everything is back to normal again. cross fingers

What was the problem, you say? It appears the WordPress upgrade was the source of my headache.  All I can say is, I will think twice before updating WP again, but with that one simple phone a special thanks go to Josh D a Jr. Technical Operations Officer at Arvixe then… just like magic, I’m back up again!

Please stop in tomorrow for Wordless Wednesday, but if this site should fail again I invite you to visit my temp site, Cathy Mews where I also scheduled the same #WW post. Have a good afternoon!

  1. Glad you are up again.
I’ve heard the dreaded stories of WP updates. It’s usually best to wait quite awhile before doing them, I’ve heard commented.

  2. So glad you’re back, Cathy! The first time I updated my site, the bloody thing crashed and it took a few days to sort out. What I didn’t know at the time, is that you’re supposed to deactivate all plugins before updating. I’ve been doing that ever since and no more issues from updates.Just FYI, I did try to leave my vote here a few times, then went over to your temp site. Here’s hoping you won’t have any more issues.

    1. Debbie, I knew updating plugins can cause headaches, but I never had a problem before with upgrading to a newer version of WP before now. Next time I do, then I will try to remember your suggestion of deactivating them first. I’m sure this sort of thing will happen again down the road somewhere, but hopefully it won’t be anytime soon. Thanks for the tip!

  3. I did notice!! I kept trying to access your blog, and just ended up with all whole bunch of gooble gook (official tech term I’m sure). Glad to see you are back up and running. Technology — just can’t trust it right? 🙂

    1. Les, yep you just can’t trust technology. It can make your life good or bad depending which end of the stick you’re on any given day. 😀

  4. I certainly noticed that there was a problem and tried many times to leave comments and on more than one post. Glad you’ve got things fixed now. I know that was a hassle for you.

    1. Lee, I figured most of y’all would knew that things were out of sorts with my site and I was trying to get my temp site prepared to let you guys know in case things didn’t get better, but thankfully in the end everything got back on track. I’m happy to have that hassle behind me.

    1. Janie, if you voted in Oct. 1st BOTB just know you can re-cast your vote. I decided to not close the polls on that round until midnight Oct. 13th to give everyone another opportunity to do so. Technical glitches as Liz puts it are so not fun!

  5. I am very happy to see you up and running, dear Cathy. After numerous unsuccessful attempts I was finally able to vote in your BOTB. You know what they say – the 100th time’s the charm! (LOL)

    1. Well, I certainly appreciate your tenacity. This problem was driving me nuttier! The one good thing about this whole mess is it’s caused me to think about changing my URL. I plan to stay with the WP platform and even Arvixe unless something changes my mind, but I really like the one I came up with for my temp blog. I will certainly give this idea some serious thought.
