July’s TADwR illustrations, TBT, & Thankful Thursday

Howdy-hi, folks!  The end of July is here.  We’re more than a month into summer. The hottest part of the season has moved into east Tennessee.  I’m really not looking forward to the mid to upper 90s but I know when cold weather returns I might think differently.  I am not one for extreme temperature changes.

I’m going to dig into my archived art sketches for my first contributions for Rain’s July prompts.  Most of y’all will recognize them.  The last two art date prompts are new illustrations and then I’m going to end things with a new art creation and a couple of recreated sketches for DH.

July 1st prompt Miniature
July 8th prompt Crisscross
July 15th Morning
July 22st Favorite Decade
July 29th Musical

I played around with my ‘Yellow Brick Road’ Procreate design running it through Brushstrokes.  The app works nice with some of my digital sketches and I may present those another time but as it is this post has grown quite lengthy.  It’s a good thing it involves mostly looking at artwork.

As mentioned earlier, I will leave you with my final three art illustrations I used for special occasions last month and this.

A new Procreate illustration I used for DH on Father’s Day
On the 4th, I used my last year’s re-creation of my Liberty pin up girl and gave her a new outfit to wear as we celebrated our nation’s birth and independence.
This is redo of my little chef pinup girl from 2020. You can see the original pencil sketch and Procreate illustration here. I used this for his birthday this past weekend.

I really wanted to join Kat’s Writing Workshop this week.  Her 5th prompt would be ideal but I’m gonna have to save it for another time.  Get inspired and unleash your creative writing with Kat each week.  I hope to get back into the game in September.

This week’s Thankful Thursday.  I’m thankful I finally did something about the tingling and numbing sensation in my right leg.  I thought it was a pulled muscle in my lower back.  The doctor ordered physical therapy and a short run of muscle relaxers and a steroids.  The meds did little to nothing and as far as the PT goes I don’t think it’s helping.  The doctor ordered an MRI but I haven’t had it yet.  He did give prescribe an anti-inflammatory drug that seems to help some but it has so many side-effects associated with it that I will only use it when I have to.  I’ll keep you updated and I hope you’ll say a prayer for me.

A couple of weeks ago while taking a drive, we had the radio tuned to 60s on 6 when today’s Throwback Thursday song came on.  DH began singing… actually he was speaking the lyrics like William Shatner might do, if you don’t know what I’m talking about, click here.  I got tickled by DH’s silliness but the lyrics had me smiling super big.  You just won’t hear anything produced today like this for a number of reasons but I think it’s just great stuff.  Listen to the Blue-eyed soul group, O’Kayisons with their 1968 Billboard Hot 100 (#5) single, “Girl Watcher”.

  1. Hi Cathy! 🙂 Oh I love your miniature fairy!! She’s so pretty! Your crisscross sill life is fabulous! You realy did a great job on the apple skins. I love your morning lady’s robe!!! So pretty! LOL I love your eighties aerobics chick!!! You got those colours right and the roll on the mat too! Very well done!! Oh the Wizard of OZ!!!! Cathy it’s so nice, your sparkly city of Oz is wonderful!!! Your pinups are awesome…I especially love the lady cooking! I need to dress like that while I’m in the kitchen lol…I’d have to make sure the curtains are closed though! 😉 I really hope your leg gets better. I hate those mystery pains and symptoms…the beach music is great! Great post! 🙂

    1. Rain,

Leave the kitchen curtains open if you do dress like my pinup girl. It might encourage your neighbors to do the same. That will make a lot of husbands happier. DH keeps telling me I need to dress like that and I have one a few occasions. The idea is really sexy but it’s a bit too drafty for me. lol

  2. Hi Cathy! My goodness, I’m so far behind this month! We’ve had at least 6 weeks of mid to upper 90s which is very unusual for my part of the country. The heat has been really hard on me. Anyway, I’m just now getting around to leave comments. Thanks for the heads up on my linky – I found a big oops on my part. Thankfully, I’ve got that fixed (and added your post to this weeks entry for you)
    See you tomorrow for BOTB!

    1. Mary,

Don’t worry about being behind. I stay in that state in Blogosphere. I still haven’t gotten caught up with A2Zers yet. I’m glad I was able to help with the linky. It’s easy to put the wrong one in or use the wrong dates. I’ve done both before. roll eyes Thanks for dropping by and for adding my link to the party. 😉 Stay cool, my friend!

  3. Oh Cathy, your pin-ups are exquisite. I love the morning pin-up the most and how you made the robe slightly see through. You have this down, for sure. And, the energy you expend to do several weeks in a row … you make me smile. But then, I feel for you. Neurological pain is the worst and often the hardest to resolve. The anti inflammatory meds will help by reducing the inflammation and allowing the effected nerves to repair. It can be a long process … so sorry and for sure I will pray for you. Good to see you back at TAD … Hope the MRI helps find the culprit. Be well, Cathy …

    1. Andrea,

You’re very kind. It helps to use past illustrations for Rain’s prompts during the summer when I can and bringing it altogether as a summary shows in a small way that my head is still in the game. I’m delighted you enjoy my pinup girls. I have a fondness for drawing them. 🙂 The nerve pain has surprisingly gotten better since Thursday. It’s not gone completely but isn’t bothering me like it was for which I’m extremely grateful for. My insurance wouldn’t approve the MRI for my family doctor so he’s sending me to a specialist. I wish we had known this sooner. I lost more than a week waiting on this but that’s part of the process. Oh well, at least the pain is manageable and as long as I take it easy I think I’ll be okay. Thanks for your concerns and prayers.

  4. Cathy, your art sketches are fun, especially your little chef pinup. I have said a prayer for you, and I hope that your tingling and numb leg issue is resolved. A constant physical aggravation is no fun! Take care!

  5. I love your tunes and your upbeat post, Cathy! Happy and upbeat reading is much needed during these times, my friend. Thanks so much for the mention and keep smiling. 😘

    1. Eugenia,

I think one of the secrets of life is to keep a positive outlook and attitude to maintain ones’ peace of mind and happiness. Thank you for visiting, my dear.

    1. Mimi,

Oh goody, I’m happy to know that my art makes you smile. Isn’t that the point of sharing? I guess I’ve done alright then. 😀

  6. Great drawings. I will be praying for you. I hope your back is better soon. XO

    1. Ellen,

Thanks for the prayers, my dear. Perhaps it’s your prayers and others who caused this turn around in how I’m doing. While the tingling and numbing hasn’t gone completely away, it doesn’t hurt like it did and I’m able to get around a whole lot better which makes me happy, happy, happy!

  7. Your sketches are so cool and I do like the Oz one lots. I hope your leg issue gets all sorted out and gets you all better soon. We always listen to 60s on 6 when we’re out n’ about too. Thanks for joining our Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!

    1. Brian,

I’ll get this leg issue resolved I’m sure. 60s on 6 is a great channel. We like listening to the oldie stations on SiriusXM. Thanks for dropping by, my furriend, I hope you’re feeling better yourself.

  8. I love your sketches. You’re most talented.

Love the video. I’m listening to “I’m a Girl Watcher”. I remember the 69s music.

Have a fabulous Thankful Thursday, Cathy. Love and hugs. ♥

  9. I enjoyed all your wonderful pieces for TAD. I am onspired to do a ‘yellow brick road’. Good luck with the tingling/numbness diagnosis gosh. At a certain age things start to act up. I just went yo the doc thinking it was heart failure that my mom had (swollen ankle). He brushed me off.

  10. Hi, Cathy!

I didn’t expect a new post from you until the Aug. 1 BOTB, dear friend. I’m glad I didn’t miss these wonderful sketches on Thursday Art Date with Rain!

I admire the crimson-haired fairy or angel in the garden adjusting the sunflower. At least, that’s my impression of your drawing. I also love the colorful fruit laden still life. It reminds me of a painting my family had mounted on the living room wall when I was young. In the third color drawing, that redheaded goddess is stretching, yawning and getting ready for another long, hard day of looking beautiful and being pampered by her sweetie. 🙂 The Class of 80 woman exercising sketch is another wonderful, colorful piece of work with the purple yoga mat, the yellow, pink, purple and green on the background, and yellow, pink and green on her workout clothes. It reminds of of those TV exercise programs and home videos that emerged in the 70s and 80s. I used to watch a workout TV show called Bodyshaping. Do you remember it? There’s more great color mixed with fantasy on the drawing paying tribute to The Wizard of Oz and the yellow brick road. Nobody does as great a job as you of recreating the classic pin-ups of Elvgren, Art Frahm and other mid 20th century artists, and the three pin-ups in this post are proof of it. They’re marvelous! The third one, the chef girl, is smashing – my favorite!

Yessum, I will say a prayer for you, Cathy. I’m sorry to learn that you have a phantom tingling and numbing sensation in your leg and that the doctors aren’t quite sure what’s going on. I hope you soon get answers and relief.

I can picture DH singing or reciting the words to “Girl Watcher” to you when it came on the radio. That lucky guy’s got a girl worth watching! 🙂 I love that 1968 record, a top 5 charting million seller by the O’Kaysions, a one-hit-wonder, horn-driven band that was part of the Carolina “Beach Music” scene thanks to that signature song of theirs.

Again, I hope that annoying sensation in your leg dissipates and you are back to 100% soon. I’ll be thinking about you, Cathy. Enjoy the rest of your week and I’ll see you on Sunday and vote in your BOTB!

    1. Tom,

I’m sorry for the unexpected post but I wasn’t too sure that I was going to be able to pull this one together in time to publish. Thankfully, I got it done in time, barely! Thank you for your concerns and prayers. I sure do appreciate both. I’m trusting God to either heal me with His touch or to use doctors to make me well. I know however I am made well again, it would not happen without the Great Physician’s hand in the mix. As always, I’m delighted you enjoyed my art. Your encouragement does me good! Thanks for dropping by today,my friend. Have a great weekend!
