Battle of the Bands

How Deep The Father’s Love For Us #BoTB showdown

Hello Kittens & Dawgs! To head things off at the path so-to-speak I’m putting my April 1st Battle of the Bands up early because one it falls on Sunday and two it’s the start of the A2Z challenge. Whew, it’s gonna be busy and considering that this is a weekend battle, I think I’m going to extend the voting time to ensure each person has a fair shot at playing along.  I felt this was the purrfect time to pay tribute to our heavenly Father in this showdown with Easter tomorrow. How Deep The Father’s Love For Us is a purrfect fit to mark the occasion which we celebrate.

Today’s battle song is written by British songwriter and artist, Stuart Townends in 1995. Please listen to the lyrical arrangement for your pleasure and referrence only.

I thought with the nature of Easter holiday being one of great reverence, I felt instrumental covers worked best. Listen and decide which you like the best.

Contender #1 Celtic Mewsic

Contender #2 Andy Leftwich (violinist)

Some time in the future, when you have time on your hands, listen to this version by WorshiipMob.

It is definitive, in my humble opinion.

      Myke,

Thank you for the introduction of WorshipMob. I had the privilege of listening to them while responding to comments and doing return visits this a.m. I very much enjoyed the simplistic, reverent tone of this group’s cover. I felt the female singers were better than the male vocalist with his opening. It drives me insane when a singer doesn’t sing the lyrics with clarity. He wasn’t horrible but he could’ve been better. Anyhow, loved the share, my friend!

      Myke,

I’m glad you found time to stop in to weigh in on my April 1st battle. I have you down for Celtic Mewsic, my friend!

      Patrick,

Thanks for participating. I love it when everyone plays along. Another vote for the Contender #1!

Until I started listening I didn’t recognize this song and then after the lyric version I realized that we sing this in church on occasion. Good choice for a Sunday. I would have normally gone with a Christian song on a Sunday, but since I’m incorporating mine into my A to Z theme I went for a different approach.

The Celtic version was very nice and relaxing, but I thought it felt too long. The second version was about the same length but it seemed to have a little more variety. And I guess I preferred the Bluegrass feel over the Celtic.

    I vote for Andy Leftwich.

My post will be up tomorrow per my usual posting schedule.

      Lee,

Both arrangements are a bit long but when not judging them for a battle then they make excellent background mewsic. I’ll be over a little later to check out your battle and A2Z post. Thanks for stopping by to vote, my friend.

HiYa, CATHY! It’s that me — STMcC.

Great decision to use a Christian song in this round of BOTB. I’m doing the same thing with my Battle tomorrow.

Normally, I don’t care for the sound of Celtic music. Too high-pitched, and I HATE squawking bagpipes. So, I really figured the first Contender was out of the picture right from the get-go. But to my great surprise, I thought it was beautiful. So beautiful, in fact, that I’m voting for it over Andy Leftwich. (Leftwich — is that the part of a sandwich you’re too full to eat? …Sorry.)

Hey, I hope you and yourn have a WONDERFUL EASTER, Cathy, my friend! Our Savior lives!!

      Stephen,

Yep, Leftwich is the part of the sandwich you can’t get when you’re too full. lol You’re such a quick wit! You and DH are alike in that regard. He’s so fast on his feet with a good comeback every time. I’m delighted you enjoyed the Celtic Mewsic. Bagpipes can get on my nerves at times but depending on the song then the sound is enchanting, even soothing to the soul. Thanks for casting your vote. I’ll see ya later!

      Mimi,

I’m not sure why WP always throws your comments into my ‘SPAM’ folder but I discovered it thankfully. This showdown is really weighted to one side. Thanks for voting.

Cathy, this is perfect for Easter! As someone with ancestors from Scotland, I am immediately drawn to Celtic Music. It just speaks to my soul. I most definitely will be casting my vote for the Celtic Music today. I’ll be posting my April Fool’s battle at 12am MDT, and drumroll…. I am ‘unofficially’ participating in AtoZ – and that post will roll out later in the day on Sunday. Have a blessed week!

      Mary,

I’m glad the Celtic Mewsic speaks to you. It’s great seeing you here today and I appreciate the info on when your battle will go live, so I’ll do my best to hop on tomorrow afternoon. Yeah, I remember you saying you’re doing the A2Z unofficially this time around.

They’re both good. The first one, though, was a little too Muzak-y, so I’m going with the second one by Andy Leftwich.

Have a wonderful Easter, and I’ll see you tomorrow for the A to Z kickoff.

    • Cathy Kennedy

      John,

Excellent, you’re the first to vote for Leftwich. Thanks for stopping by to play along. I’ll hop over to see you soon and I will definitely see you on the A2Z trail!

      Eugenia,

I’m glad that you think my battle song is purrfect. John 3:16 tells us just how deep the Father loves IS for us. I have your vote recorded, my friend. 🙂

    Hi, Cathy!

Your song selection is ideal for Easter and it was a great idea to have instrumental versions compete. I enjoyed both but I must say that Celtic Mewsic reached me, touched me, a little more than did Andy’s violin piece. Therefore I am voting for act #1, Celtic Mewsic.

I’ll see you at the A To Z starting gate tomorrow, dear friend Cathy. Have a lovely Saturday!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Tom,

Thank you for popping by this morning. We took time to enjoy the beautiful day after such a stressful week. It does the soul good to get out to enjoy God’s beauty. You’re the first to cast your vote for Contender #1. Although I may not be around tomorrow in Blogosphere, I will visit you early on Monday. I sure do appreciate your support and enthusiasm, my friend. 🙂
