Christmas Music Marathon

Day 12: S.a.D Mary’s Boy Child/Oh My Lord

Christmas greetings!  For the month of December, I plan to share a Christmas song each day with the hope of adding a little extra cheer to your holiday.  Part of my challenge in this series is to bring to you a new-to-me song or artist discoveries.  There’s no telling what song pick I’ll go with but you’ll find artists from all genres celebrating in song this almost magical, holy season.

Harry Belafonte recorded Mary’s Boy Child in 1956.   Across the pond, Boney M released a disco-pop version of this Christmas classic as a remix with a new song Oh My Lord in 1978 which topped the UK singles chart.

Don’t even worry with leaving a comment. This is for your enjoyment.  There’s no worries or fuss or strings attached. Simply a moment for you to unwind and refresh your mind and body. 😉

I’ll be here with bells on tomorrow morning with Monday’s Music Moves Me with a whole lot of Christmas songs waiting to start your day. Don’t let the holiday hustle weigh you down.  The seasons festivities are beautiful and fun but it’s the true reason that warms the heart better than these earthly things. Take time to bask in God’s great love this Christmas.   It’s the most wonderful time of the year! X💋X💋, Cathy

I have their Christmas CD because my mom loved it so and bought it for herself. This CD became a mega hit the year it came out and was flying off the shelf. I enjoy this version of this song and like almost every one except their version of White Christmas.

    Hi, Cathy!

Happy S.a.D. Day 12 to you, dear friend! I hope you and DH are having a nice weekend and were not anywhere near that horrible tornado that swept through several states including Western Tennessee. Prayers go out to families of all those victims!

I remember the song “Mary’s Boy Child” because my mother bought Harry Belafonte’s RCA single at Christmas time, 1956, and got it out and played it every holiday season thereafter. I am familiar with the Boney M, an unusual Euro-Disco group formed in Germany with all members originally from the West Indies. This is the first I am hearing their version of your featured song “Mary’s Boy Child” released as a single at Christmas in 1978. While the record sold poorly in the U.S. and only reached #85 on the pop chart, it soared to #1 in Germany, the UK and three other European countries.

Thank you very much for the uplifting holiday mewsic, dear friend Cathy. Have a safe and happy week ahead!

      Tom,

Thanks for joining me this Sunday. We’re doing fine in our little corner of east Tennessee. The tornadoes were along way from us. We got some heavy rain and windy conditions. It woke me during the night but we no harm befall our little hamlet. Thanks for your concerns, dear friend. Boney M’s version has an island feel to the song which feels festive. It’s funny how well a song does in one part of the world and not so good in another. I enjoyed Boney M’s song and I hope you enjoyed the introduction. Have a joyful day, dear friend!
