Friday Fun

Borrowed from Facebook

The weekend is here. Like many of you, I feel like this is the start of something good or at least different after the past four days of the ole grind. What’s that? You’re a SAHM, whatchu got to complain about, you said?

Contrary to what you’re misled to believe, mothers are very busy even those of us with grown children. Our days can be every bit as hectic and stressful as anyone’s day at the office. We never leave our office so-to-speak. We are on call 24/7. Even doctors get an off day, but mothers? Never! I’m gonna ignore the ignorant few out there this morning and enjoy my cup of coffee while visiting a few friends in Blogosphere. Won’t you join me?

It’s been rather cold here this week, so I think I could use a break someplace really warm, like Hawaii! Follow me as I visit with Kailani hostess of “Aloha Friday”. This is only my second week linking up with her. She asks, Are you ready for the holiday season?

Not exactly. I do have a good handle on most of my gift purchases. Years ago, I got into the groove of shopping all year round. This really liberated me and I found my Christmas holiday season was less stressful and more enjoyable, but still, I haven’t gotten it down the process completely. There is always one present to buy. Usually, it’s my in-laws. It’s difficult to buy for older couples who don’t really need anything. Oh, if only I had a million dollars, right? Then this job would be very easy I would think.  Cake making, decorating, playing Christmas music, and card making lists will begin soon.  I’m really eager for the holiday season to get underway!

Next up, I’m going to visit my friend Hilary. In case you didn’t know Hilary lives in a coastal community in NJ or NY. My brain is all fuzzy and I never can remember which state she lives in, but the thing is she was in direct line for Sandy’s destruction. I don’t know the full scoop of what’s going on with her, but my prayers are with you, dear!

Here are her FFFFF statements:

1. Growing up isn’t always what it’s cracked up to be.  That’s something we can never understand when we’re little until it’s too late — actually walking the walk of a grown up. I think I’d rather be a kid, how about you?
2. Wouldn’t walking up on Christmas morning with everything covered in whiteness and snow falling from the sky be wonderful?
3. If I hadn’t married this darling husband of mine, then I never would have known the joy I know today with him and the children we have. Sure it could be good with someone else, but I think in my heart this is gotta be the perfect combination for me. This is precisely where God wanted me to be!
4. When I feel my mood growing a bit bluesy, I like to listen to music to lift my spirit while talking with God and thinking about my many blessings. Whenever I take my mind off me and think of how rough someone else has it, then things are in perspective and I have no reason to be down.

Today’s Flashback Friday moment brings me to several of my own….

In each of these snapshots, I remember the picture being taken clearly as if it were yesterday. Gazing upon past memories through photographs makes me think time stands still and while my reflection mirrors that of the girl in these photos it is plain to see that time continued. The evidence is obvious by the small lines around my eyes and above my brow. Thanks, Camille for hosting such a fun meme!

Create with Joy poses these provoking questions:

  1. Do you believe in the power of dreams? Dreams show some sort of truths. Often times it’s not easy to know what a dream means. Sometimes when I dream of someone I love who has died, then I think it may be God’s way of preparing my heart & mind for what’s going to happen. Death is never a welcome sight and it’s difficult at best even when you see it coming.
  2. Have you ever had a dream come true? Yes. The dream doesn’t happen exactly the way it does in life, but the result is the same as in with my response to number one.
  3. Have you ever changed your plans due to a dream? No, I don’t think I have.
  4. Do you keep a Dream Journal? No, I don’t. Usually, by the next morning, only fragments of my dream play out in my head and sometimes nothing is left other than the sense it leaves me
  5. Do you dream in color? On more occasions than not, I do dream in color. I’m told, if you dream in color then you have a vivid imagination. I don’t know if this is true or not.

Mama M @ My Little Life asks these 5Q:

1. What terrifies you the most? Honestly, I don’t that anything really terrifies me. I joke about being a scaredy cat when it comes to traveling in anything other than a car, but I don’t think it would petrify me to board another form of transportation. The only thing I can think of which really terrifies me is when I wake from a dream where it feels like I’m drowning. I don’t know why this bothers me so much and yet it does. I guess I may have some secret fear this may be the way I’ll die one day. I hope it’s not, but still, that’s what crops in my mind.

2. What’s your favorite fall/winter drink? I love a good cup of hot chocolate topped with whipping cream or a piping hot latte I made using Davinci’s sugar-free syrups. Currently, we’re enjoying pumpkin spice lattes. Mmm, are they ever good, too!

3. Do you and your spouse have the same political views? DH & I do share the same political viewpoints. He really keeps on top of the issues. Most of the time I get lost with all political mumbo jumbo, but I do understand what’s going on.

4. What was the last book you read? Was it any good? The last book I read was, He Affiliated Me by Lynnette Kraft, a fellow blogger. Her true story not only touched my heart but amazed me. If you know of anyone who has lost a child then this may be the book to get for yourself to understand the raw emotional ordeal it is and how to help you to help someone going through something like this.

5. Do you look forward to the snow each winter? Why or why not? I like the thought of snow more than anything. I prefer to see it in the air, but not really lay on the ground. However, occasionally I do like to see the inches pile up as long as the electricity stays on and work or school isn’t interrupted by the conditions. More than anything I just like seeing it one time of the year if nothing else and that’s for Christmas.  There’s something magical about a white Christmas, don’t you think?

This week Janet wants us to complete these Friday Fill-Ins.

1. I was contemplating doing a dry run on making my hand-stamped Christmas cards for family & close friends and then start addressing pre-made cards for everyone else, but now I don’t know.
2. Do things really get crazy, like werewolves and vampires and zombies walking about when the moon is full?
3. When we get these last two CC obligations out-of-the-way, which may be by the end of this month then we will be debt-free or as debt-free as you can get aside of paying one’s monthly utilities and other personal expenses.
4. Chocolate & peanut butter together is the best!
5. Underneath it all the make-up and high heels, I’m still a little girl – just older is all. *smiles*.
6. Oh! And thanks for hosting this weekly meme, Janet! I wish I could join in more often than I do, but I appreciate you having me on the occasions I show.
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to simply relaxing, tomorrow my plans include more relaxing, but I may begin some of my holiday DIY projects and Sunday, I want to have to make my weekly run to Super Wal-Mart!
