Thursday Art Date,  Wild Wednesdays

Canoeists on Lake Price #Brushstrokes

I’m doing a repeater from last week with a mashup of two daily hops in one post to get my blogging legs stable again so-to-speak.  This week’s art prompt is ‘SWIPE’. I reworked a photo using my favorite photo-editing of late, Brushstrokes to turn scene into a painting like image.  I snapped the picture in 2012 on one of our day trips to the Blue Ridge Parkway shortly after getting my Big Girl camera. I’d say the canoeists are swiping the water with their paddles, wouldn’t you?

I’m plugging Sandee’s (Comedy Plus) Wordless Wednesday linky party below for y’all to join. I’ll be back next month hosting once again the mid-week linky party where just about anything goes with #WildWednesdays! 😉

[Thursday Art Date with Rain] The swipe of a summer breeze like the song lyrics go “makes me feel fine” and surely wit it the wind carries distant tunes to my ear. Visit Rain’s Garden to check out the gallery of talented artists’ on display!

Over the weekend I got creative in the kitchen. I made a recipe of Focaccia Bread for the first time in forever.  I split the dough ball so I could use half it for Focaccia-style pizza crust to use with our favorite toppings and then the other half I topped per the Focaccia Bread recipe.  It was a great hit with DH and I admit I really loved it, too.  One more thing I did was make Home-made Ranch Dressing.  This is something I kept saying I wanted to do but the timing on having all the ingredients in the house didn’t line up until now.  We both loved the taste even though I got it slightly thin but a after doing a little Internet sleuthing I found an easy hack to thicken my recipe up by using corn starch.  😉

I forgot to take a picture of just the Focaccia Bread before I cut it into strips but at least I got something for ya!

Thanks for making me apart of your day. Y’all have a wonderful day! X💋X💋, Cathy

Hi Cathy 🙂 I love how you made your photo look so artsy! I have to check out that software, very neat! Your summer breeze gal is wonderful…it’s so hot these days, a nice breeze feels amazing. Oh yummy yummy recipes and great photos! Focaccia pizza!!! I love it! Ranch dressing is one thing I have never tried, and I love the stuff, thanks for the link to the recipe, it’s something I want to try out. I put it on everything! Great post and congrats on the bread! I haven’t made a focaccia in years. By the way, that night we saw the bears, Mama bear was in the ditch waiting. When we first slowed down we saw her and she hurried off the road to wait for her cub.

I did have a kayak of my own for many years. But growing older the kayak seemed heavier.;( I had to sell it.
Re the balloon in my post: The paint was still wet. I could not keep the balloon as it looses the air when drying. That is why I took a shot of it when holding it.

Well yes, by all means, they are swiping the water with their paddles. Canoeing is great fun, but I find it hard to sit on the floor of a canoe now days … guess that is what happens when you get old. As for your Focaccia bread and pizza … where do you live, I am stopping by in hopes of some left overs. Looks great and puts me to shame. I used to love cooking … gourmet and all, but now days I seek out the quickest and easiest way to put a meal on the table … another getting old thing, I guess. Anyway you look at it, this is a lovely post … Stay well Cathy!

      Andrea,

You won’t find me in a canoe or anything floating on a deep, open body of water. Aside from not knowing what’s in the dark water, it’s not very sanitary. Yeah, growing up to realize such truths takes the fun out of stuff like this now. Bummer, huh? Also, I have a fear of deep water and that alone is enough to keep me out. It’s fun to pretend, though. I’m trying to enjoy cooking and baking for as long as I can. I remember my late MIL talking about how she used to this or that but then age got in the way. She was a great country cook. That’s too bad you’re not feeling up to cooking like you once did. Maybe, you’d enjoy doing some light cooking or baking on occasion. That’s sure to give you a lot of joy if you could. I don’t know if you’re dealing with health issues that prevent this but I encourage to do what you can and don’t worry about the rest. Growing old really stinks but it’s better than the alternative, right? 😀 Thanks for dropping by today!

Thanks for the return visit and joining me for double header post this week. I plan to keep this format through the end of the month and hopefully get back to my regular daily post scheduling next month. Have a great day!

  • Natasha

This is divine – the image, and the focaccia. Mmmm! pass me some over please, now that I barely have much gluten. It’s cheat day so… 😉
Thank you dear Cathy for joining me me on #WW.

Much love and happiness and many blissful moments for you and yours always.

    Stay safe.

I’m so sorry! I feel like such a boob! I lovesssssssssssssssss your picture! You must have been looking in the mirror drawing you, right? No, all kiddin’ aside girlfriend… GREAT JOB! Personally no kiddin’, best pic I’ve seen you draw I’m sure. Everything is perfect, head, arms, legs… nope it’s all perfect! I don’t know why…. hey wait, why you don’t go get a job at an advertising company? My niece is doing that and she does what you’re doing. Girl, you’re wasting time. Get a newspaper or better go on line and take a gander! GOOD LUCK… woo hoo and I can say “I KNEW YOU WHEN…”. LATER! LOVE YA GIRL! HUGS

  • XmasDolly

Oh dam, so sorry I forgot to ask…… WHAT TIME IS DINNER? That looks like what my nonny use to make! Oh my Lord, my lip is dripping with Juicy delight! Don’t blame me for that one my daddy use to say that when my mom put dinner on the table. He was a truck-driver! He loved good food! hahahaha Truly your dinner looks great and I bet your hubby went bonkers! So what time is dinner or am I late already??? hahaha love you girlfriend!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Marie,

Thanks! The recipe is really easy. Allowing the dough time to rise is the hard part because all you want is for it to be ready to put in the oven!

Thank you Cat girl! hahaha CatGirl! hahaa new name for Cat! Cat Girl na na na na Cat Girl Remember her on Batman. OMG I’m losing it. So much going on… Guess what girlfriend! I’m Covid CLEAN! Yep, took my test (and by the way the test is a breeze – at least where I took it). They put this stick that looked like a long Q-Tip, but it was only about 2 fingers long and wiped and I was done. She was really gentle and kept saying you okay, you okay! She was so nice. Guess I looked a little nervous. I think the worse thing about it was I could feel my hubby’s eyeballs burning a hole threw me watching it all! hahahaha When it was over I told him to close his mouth that I was fine. Good Lord Almighty I thought he was going to faint! bwahahahahaha Anyway, then all of sudden slap my back Girl, I WAS DONE! HAHAHAHA PRAISE JESUS!!! I was worried for nothing. Any who got the test done and I was fine as wine! Then we went to Chicago and stopped off to see my cousin who’s 82 and I haven’t seen her since she was 38 I believe… lotsa time there, and she lives all alone now since my cousin Billy died. God bless him. Well, she kept thanking us that we came and made us promise we’d come back. What a sweetheart! God bless her. Anyway, when we came home I get a phone call from the nurse (I was surprised) and she wanted to set up MY SHOT APPOINTMENT – WOO HOO! PRAISE THE LORD! I’M GETTING MY SHOT! So I told her so this means I don’t have Covid? She says well I guess not sweetie if I’m setting up this appointment! WOO HOO! So I have to be there on Friday! WOO HOO TIME TO PARRRRR TEEEEEEEEEE I CANNOT WAIT! Anywho… I didn’t hear from anyone else today so oh well Friday is a done deal. OMG I’m so relieved you’ll never know! So back to business. Did you hear what Twitter did to our President? They kicked him off for putting something derogatory about the democrats! Can you believe that!? It was a video about Hillary saying bad stuff about our President and how he is NOT going to win & how he snuck in by lying last time. Then Obama decided to throw in a few shots and a couple of others and President Trump posted what they were doing especially about the mail in vote how wrong it was and they kicked him off of twitter for posting that video and it all was the truth. Aughhhhh I don’t get it. They are ganging up on our poor President. I’m sorry if you’re a democrat and sorry that I don’t remember if you told me or not, but the President that believes in the Lord is my President for sure. God bless him and I still hope he wins. Sorry Cat – I got away with myself here. Love you girlfriend. Talk at ya later. Woo Hoo I’m getting my shot! PRAISE THE LORD HE HAS ANSWERED MY PRAYERS.

      Marie,

I’m happy the Covid-19 testing wasn’t as bad as you feared. Sometimes you have to put up with the pleasantries to benefit from medical treatment. There was Catwoman and now there’s CatGirl! 🙂 That’s cute!! No, I didn’t see where Twitter locked President Trump out of his account but it doesn’t surprise me one bit. They do that to those who do not line up with their agenda or they see an individual as a threat to them or others like them. The same is true of Facebook. I really dislike both platforms because of their nosiness and control. They’ll raise a raucous if a conservative steps on their toes but when the shoe is on the other foot, their lips are tight. That’s why they conservatives get blocked. President Trump isn’t purrfect but then none of us are except Jesus Christ. I believe our President is doing what’s best for our country. The Coronavirus is real and is a serious threat to one’s health but why the fuss when the flu kills more people each year than this? It seems to me it’s a tactic for world domination. Satan knows fear is what drives people to over react. The unknown is scary. This virus I believe largely is meant to destroy free nations. The situation with the BLM. It has nothing to do with race. It is all a lie! What is, is a ploy to crush the American way of life to allow for socialism to slip in. If that happens, race issues will still be here, religious persecution implemented, and there will be two classes the haves and the have nots, no more middle class. Conservatives. Christians. Anyone who disagrees with the new system will be imprisoned or killed. Social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook will be eager to tattle to their Dark Lord who’s naughty or nice according to their guidelines. China and other communist countries have done this (imprisonment and murder) for centuries and it’s heading to America. The only way to fix any of this is for our country to turn its back to God. I pray for President Trump and for things to constantly improve. Trump isn’t purrrfect but he’s the man for the job to keep our country moving forward!

The photo looks lovely with the paintwork effect. The pizza looks delish!

    • Cathy Kennedy

Thanks for joining me, furriends. We have some of the pizza left over so we’ll enjoy it this weekend while watching the FX series, Strain, on Hulu!

  • Margy

We have a double plastic sit on kayak that’s fun to paddle around our lake float home. We live in a water world. – Margy

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Margy,

I love seeing others on the water but I don’t like it. I am such a scaredy Cathy when it comes to being in deep water. I rather keep my feet on dry ground…maybe that’s the cat in me talking. lol Thanks for dropping by!

  • stevebethere

Nice photo Cathy but I like your sketch I cannot draw for toffee

The big question is did you save me any pizza? 🍕🍕🍕

    Have a safetastic week 😷😷😷

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Steve,

Of course, I saved you some pizza! What kind of friend would I be to not? Let me shoot you a virtual slice via email. lol Thanks for the return visit, my friend!

  • 15andmeowing

Great drawing and painting image. You are making me hungry. Thanks for hosting. Have a nice day! XO

  • DrillerAA

Back in the day float trips were a great way to spend a day. Now, they seem like more work that pleasure. Still, I would enjoy a kayak for floating and fishing local lakes. Have a blessed day.

  • Sandee

Love the canoers. We saw a lot on our boating adventure last weekend.

I love your sketch as always. I wish I was that thin again.

I ate two slices of that pizza. Delicious. That’s why I’m not thin anymore.

Thank you for joining the Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous Wordless Wednesday, Cathy. Love and hugs. ♥

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Sandee,

I love pizza! I reluctantly have only one piece of pizza but if I let myself I could eat two. We normally have something else to snack on, especially on the weekends so I have to keep that in mind so to not over eat. I’m not nearly as thin as I once was, either. It happens as we get older and is soooo much harder to get back off, too! UGH!!! Thanks for visiting, my friend!

  • Thomas Anderson

    Hi, Cathy!

Happy Wild & Almost Wordless Wednesday, dear friend!

It continues to amaze me what your Brushstrokes application can do to turn ordinary photographs into extraordinary art compositions. Thanks to the chroma boost and soft focus effect, Canoeists on Lake Price reminds of of an Impressionist painting. Looking at your sketch of the girl at the beach, I am once again reminded of my girlfriend of the late 60s, the future Mrs. Shady #1. She was petite and had long hair and we loved going to the beach. Mixed with the sound of crashing waves and calling terns, we could often detect, carried along on the invigorating sea breeze, the faint sound of a song melody coming from someone’s transistor radio as they reclined on a blanket on the sand. Your drawing brings back happy memories of those carefree times!

My mouth is watering and I wish I were there right now to savor your Focaccia goodies. I’m sure I have tasted the product in restaurants when it was served as an appetizer or table bread, and it looks like it makes a delicious pizza dough. On top of that, you whipped up a batch of homemade Ranch salad dressing! DH is one lucky man to have you taking care of his tummy the way you do. 🙂

Thanks for sharing your artistic and culinary creations, dear friend Cathy, and enjoy the rest of your week!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Tom,

You paint such lovely memories with your words. 🙂 I enjoyed reading about your carefree, younger days with Mrs. Shady #1. I’m delighted my illustration recalled for you happy times. Sometimes when relationships end, it’s hard to see the good moments two people shared. My Focaccia bread reminds me of the bread Carrabba’s Italian Grill serves. Normally I fix mine like a flat bread but I might have to bake it in a loaf to serve up with some Olive Oil and spices. Yum! I do my best to take care of DH’s tummy. He’s always telling me that he’s trying to loose weight not gain. It doesn’t bother me, though. It’s him I love not his pant size. 😀 Thanks for visiting today, my friend!
