A TAD Share On This First Day of Winter

I haven’t participated in Thursday Art Date much this year and I’ve been even worse with keeping up with community members.  It doesn’t mean that I haven’t thought of my friends there because I have many times.  Some of you are a whole lot better than me with your stops at my place. I am truly appreciate.  Your friendships mean so much to me.  Here are a few art sketch contributions based on Rain’s prompts this month, Snowed In and Christmas Lights.

This is a do-over, do-over Procreate sketch. About a year ago, I reinvented my design for Rain’s “A Winter Night” prompt from my early days.

This is another redesign of a past TAD prompt, “Cold Full Moon“. You may recognize it. I used an image similar to this creation for my Christmas greetings this year for friends and family created using Vista Printing.

I’m thankful for music and the memories associated with songs.  DH got me Riders in the Sky Christmas album on iTunes this year when I heard the lyrics to Christmas Time’s A Comin’, a song I hadn’t heard in years, Daddy instantly came to mind.  I remember as a kid how he’d act silly while singing it.

Snowflakes falling my old home is calling
Tall pines are humming Christmas time is coming.

Can’t you hear them bells ringin’ ringin’ joy to all here them singin’
Let it snow and I’ll be going back to my country home
Christmas times a’ coming Christmas times a’ coming
Christmas times a’ coming and I know I’m going home.

Holly’s in the window home where the wind blows
Can’t walk for running Christmas time is coming.

Home fires burning my heart’s yearning
For the folks at home when Christmas time is coming.

I’ll be back tomorrow to report the outcome in my “What Child Is This” BOTB and although I won’t be in Blogosphere Monday, I do have music to share.  May your heart be light and your days be merry, my friends. This is CAAC signing off,  have a doodletastic day! X💋, Cathy

  1. Your art is lovely, Cathy, and I love the song your daddy sung. Thank you for the mention and just a note that the name of my blog is Moonwashed Musings. Merry Christmas to you and yours. 🥰

  2. Hi, Cathy!

I’m back for a second visit this morning, dear friend. You know how much I love your artwork, and these snowy scenes deliver pure holiday glee. They are simply delightful. I’m beginning to wonder if I will ever see deep snow accumulation as depicted in these sketches of yours. Here I am, up north, and we have only had one day of snow so far, with almost no accumulation. Although the forecast does not call for a white Christmas, I am loving the cold weather and keeping my fingers crossed for a traditional snowstorm or two this winter. I also love your illustration of colored Christmas lights. It nearly matches the wrapping paper Mrs. Shady and I were using yesterday to prepare presents for our holiday guests. Her daughter and family, including our 9 year old grandson and 26 year old granddaughter, are coming over for Christmas dinner.

I do not recall that song your daddy sang to you, but I enjoyed listening to it. I know how much you must be missing him this Christmas and my heart goes out to you. Keep in mind that my father died on Christmas day (2001), putting a damper on the holiday for me ever since.

Just a reminder that I’m back with a new post today, my final one of 2023, and hope you can swing by. The very last video in the post is touching and carries an important message about bullying and meanness in general. I hope you enjoy it.

Happy holidays to you and your wonderful family, dear friend Cathy!

    1. Tom,

It was nice to see you today. Thanks for the heads up on your new post. I’m happy to know that you’re enjoying the cold temperatures. I wouldn’t worry too much about the snow. It’ll probably arrive in spades before winter is over. We don’t usually see snow at Christmas here but when we visited my late in-laws when the children were small, I think every Christmas we got snow. There’s something magical about Christmas snow. 🙂 Have a blessed Christmas weekend, my friend!

    1. John,

Thanks for the heads up on your new venture as host of Kat’s Writer’s Workshop. I updated my Daily Hops Page and my Thursday master post draft to reflect the change. From time to time I think about Kat’s creative writing pow-wow and how I’d like to participate. I can’t make promises but it would be nice to try to in the new year again. I hope you have fun running it!
