A tease in the soon-changing season was ever-present on this gorgeous Saturday. It was a beautiful sunny day with rich blue skies. It was perfect weather for grilling–not too hot or cold, just right. I had just placed some New York Stripes across a sizzling grate, when a truck drove by our home slowly. I noticed a kid in the truck bed wearing a Tennessee jersey and I thought, no doubt thousands of Big Orange fans were preparing to enjoy the first game of the season at Neyland Stadium could sense Autumn, too.
I soaked up the pre-fall temps and glorious ambience. Just thinking about the weather cooling down made me giddy, especially after such a hot summer as we have had. My mind drifted… aah, the pleasant day which melted into even more pleasant evening and ooh the air had an almost mountain-like fresh scent. A smile crept across my face as I breathed in deeply imagining autumn was here. The aroma of the steaks brought me back to reality and I knew I had a few more weeks before this materialized.
It wasn’t long, before a gyro of thoughts filled my head that I wanted to do with Autumn on my heels, like buy fall mums and pumpkins to decorate the front porch, make oatmeal cookies for Sunday night football, enjoy hot coco on cool mornings, and wearing snugly sweats. There’s a time and a season for everything, I know, but I couldn’t help but to wish my days away just a little to savor these Autumn delights a wee bit sooner. I’m counting the days until the first day of fall arrives.
