Tuesday, I shared my theme reveal for next month’s A to Z Challenge. I committed myself, but not to an insane asylum as that’s where I belong no doubt for signing up for the blogfest. 🤪 I’ll do my best to crank out artwork the rest of the month for Rain’s Garden weekly art date. I’m unsure how I’ll handle next month’s TADs. Anyway, the prompt for today is the mystical, fantastical creatures known as “Faeries”.
I think it’s only fitting for today’s theme to share with you this DIY project that’s perfect for the little people in your life. I haven’t done it but shared it with my daughter on FB since I felt it would be just the sort of thing our little 3-year old granddaughter might enjoy. It’s Make Your Own Fairy Potion.
Last weekend, I made goulash for the first time in a long, long while. When the kids were small I would make it using my late MIL’s recipe. I pulled it out again, took a look at a few recipes online, and came up with some good changes for a great start. I’m not ready share my revised recipe just yet but I do have something to share with you. I made the mistake of cooking the whole box of elbow macaroni. Why I did that I will never know. I didn’t want to freeze the cooked noodles, so I began thinking what I could I make and that’s when I decided to make mac n’ cheese. In the past I made homemade cheese sauce but I can’t remember if it was something I just threw together or if I went by a recipe which ever it was I don’t remember being impressed. While store-bought mac n’ cheese is good if you’re a kid…okay, it’s not too bad even for adults but when you like to cook from scratch then you know you super tasty mac n’ cheese is possible. I did a quick DuckGo search finding two recipes that sounded good. I started off thinking I would use just one but wound up merging them together and the results were pretty darn good. Here’s a copy for you to try if you’d like.
My blogging routine is all up in the air. Nothing seems to make sense. I know it’s confusing but hey it is what it is, so let’s just roll with it! Tomorrow is DH’s off Friday. I thought I’d toss in some giggles inspired by the ‘faerie’ theme.
Speaking of broken teeth, it turned out DH’s problem was an old composite filling fell out and his tooth wasn’t broken. Thank you, dear Lord! I mean, we literally braced ourselves for the worse possible scenario which was a tooth extraction and an implant while hoping it would only need a crown. Our dentist said his tooth looked healthy and no signs of any problems. WOW, right? I count this as a BIG Thankful Thursday!
Talking about blessings, it was such a joy to get out on Monday despite the horribly heavy rain and gusty wind conditions to see signs of spring popping out. The purple magnolias are bloomed, other flowering trees swayed in the wind, the forsythia is beginning to make a show across lawns, daffodils are in abundances in our neighborhood, and I even noticed the cheery little pansy faces in one neighbors’ yard. Last weekend it felt so spring-like with temps in the mid-70s. I even wore shorts outdoors on Sunday while we took care of a few things. That’s expected to change this weekend with our forecast showing the possibility of snow on Saturday morning. The weekend lows are calling to dip back into the teens which sounds awful. That’s winter making one last stand. Oh well…I’m still thankful for the gorgeous weather. This rollercoaster ride won’t last forever before spring is here to stay!
For those who are friends with furbabies from Brian’s Home, you may know that they had an unexpected loss. Sweet Dolly was at the vet this week for what I think was routine stuff when she threw up a blood clot and then another, then just like that she crossed the rainbow bridge.
My heart is so heavy for you, my dear friends and while I never met Dolly whiskers to whiskers or got a chance to stroke her soft long fur I felt a kinship with her, as I do each of your wonderful kitties. Dolly will be missed. You are in my prayers. I I found this beautiful song while looking for tunes specifically for a furry family member memorial with this one listed for cats.
Please, leave a message in comments so I’ll know to come by your place and thank you for making me a part of your day. Up next is the Sunday edition of Monday’s Music Moves Me. I hope you’ll join the party. This is CAAC signing off, have a doodletastic day!

What a cute fairy! I love her mushroom seat! ☺ OMG you wore shorts, NOW I’m jealous lol…we still have snow on the ground, but it’s getting milder each day, I love the hope of spring! ☺ I’m so sorry for the loss of your friend’s Dolly. A sad time. On a happy note, the funny about paying the tooth fairy ain’t that funny is it lol? Dentistry shouldn’t be so darn expensive!!! It’s not a luxury to have teeth!!! (rant over lol)
Rain,
Yeah, it’s hard to believe I was wearing shorts the day on Friday, especially after getting 8″ of snow on Saturday. That was just crazy! You’re right it’s never funny to have to pay the dentist. I’m just thankful we didn’t have to pay an arm and leg this time around. 🙂
it´s a sweet little fairy 🙂
Thanks, Monica!
That is an adorable sketch, Cathy! I am so glad DH didn’t have to have his tooth removed – whew! Our temps will be in the 20s tomorrow and I hope this is winters last hurrah! Thanks for nod, btw! 🥰
Eugenia,
I think everyone on this side of the country got whammed with that wintry dump of cold temps, wind, and white stuff. I’m so happy things are warming up again.
sorry o read about little Dolly, I just popped in from Rain’s blog hope x
Betty,
Thanks for visiting. I hope you’ll decide to join Rain’s TAD again.
That’s a lovely little fairy illustration.
Thank heaven your husband’s tooth was just a lost filling.
Thanks for the funnies and the beautiful music for sweet Dolly.
Thanks, Mimi! And, yes thank heavens DH’s tooth is okay. 🙂
Glad DH didn’t need his tooth removed. I bought my 6 yr old great niece a fairy potion kit and she made all the potions the same day. We told her 3 yr old sister that she can’t make potions until she is 4. 🙂 XO
Ellen,
Oh that’s fun. Kids get enthusiastic sometimes with their DIY projects. lol
I love your fairy! She is so cute sitting on the toadstool or Mushroom. That mushroom is in Germany and it’s actually quite poisonous but it actually has a happy meaning – “Good Luck”. I love the bright colours and her precious face.
I am so happy your hubby didn’t have to go through any major procedure and the cost is much less.
Those funnies are great. The Uber pumpkin and Mazine swatting (maybe) the fairy …too funny.
I am so sad to hear that Brian lost his furbabe. I don’t know them but it is so tough when one loses a pet because they are part of the family. Molly looks so regal and wise. How old was she? My doggie, Wallace, doesn’t feel like eating today…he goes up and down. He has a cancerous lump on his leg but they can’t operate again on it because the skin now is too thin. (it was removed twice). He is 12 years old and has arthritis. He’s on meds but my poor babe is slowing down. Our one cat, Lucy, will be 16 this summer. She is so thin but eats and eats. I know it is her thyroid but the little bugger won’t swallow her pills. She even figured out how to gulp to make it look like she took them but later, we would find them behind a chair. She has coughed up blood too and the vet said she may have cancer but she is 16, eats, sleeps and plays like a kitten so let her have some fun even when she places her paw on my face (with one nail attached to my skin) at 3 am. That song is precious and fitting.
Birgit,
Thanks for the tidbit about the red mushroom I sketched. This kind of mushroom is frequently used in drawings I’ve noticed and it certainly is an interesting one with his bright color. I’m sure that’s one of the reasons many artists choose to use it as it is in my case. I’m sorry I don’t know how old Dolly was but she wasn’t a young cat. I think the kitties at Brian’s Home are all getting up in years. At various times over the years that I’ve been visiting there, I’ve read of the cats medical issues cropping up. It has to be frustrating for pet owners to not know how to help their furbabies sometimes. It’s not like a child who can relay what’s hurting. It was a pleasure getting to know Dolly and I know she’s gonna be missed by her hoomans a lot. Thanks for visiting, my dear!
Awww, that’s a sweet wee faerie on the toadstool!
Debra,
Thanks! 😉
Cute fairy Cathy! So glad your hubby lucked out on that tooth. Enjoyed the funnies.
Your fairy is a cutie.
Happy Thursday.
Enjoyed your funnies LOL
much❤live
Gillena,
Thanks! Your visits are always a welcome sight. 😉
Thank you, Christine for stopping by to view my TAD illustration. Have a good week!
I am sorry for your friends loss. Glad DH didn’t have a broken tooth. Goulash, yum. It’s always good. Your faerie is just too cute. Have the very best day today.
Nicole,
Boy, are we ever happy DH’s tooth didn’t require more serious repair work. We’re counting our blessings! Thanks for checking out my little faerie contribution.
That faerie is adorable
Thanks, Robin. I appreciate that!
Hi, Cathy!
Happy Thursday Art Date with Rain, dear friend!
Awww, I just wanna smooch that cute little faerie! She’s nicely drawn, and the scene ever so colorful with her perched atop a red mushroom with pretty tulips, grass and foliage around the scene. I can see why this delightful illustration, inspired by your darling LA, is a favorite.
Thanks for sharing that recipe for mac n’ cheese. It is a dish Mrs. Shady has made quite often. She and her son love it, but I prefer veggie dishes, lentils and similarly lighter food choices. I can actually “hear” crabby Maxine uttering her zingers in that cartoon series. Do you do that? Do you assign a specific voice to comic strip characters? I am very happy to learn that DH’s trip to the dentist had a favorable outcome and that he does not need a costly procedure. Yessum, I remember from decades spent living up north how happy I felt every year at this time when flowers started coming on. The sweet smell in the air lifts your spirits, and the sight of flowers popping up renews your hope, energizes you and hints at the happy, fun-filled spring and summer months ahead. I am very sorry to hear about Brian’s unexpected loss of pet Dolly., I know that feeling well. What a magnificent cat she was, so wise looking and and dignified. “how rare and beautiful it truly is that we exist.”
Have a wonderful day, dear friend Cathy. Enjoy your Friday with DH and the upcoming weekend!
Tom,
We’re not huge mac n’ cheese fans but it’s nice to have occasionally….like once every five years or longer. lol Although, I didn’t use Maxine’s crabbiness for the return of DST I did include her in the upcoming Tickle Me Tuesday giggles. I appreciate your visit as always and am sorry for being so brief my reply but I really do appreciate your encouragement, my friend.
