Good morning, folks! This is going to be a very busy day for me and if you’re a member of one of my mewsic communities I shared a combined 4M & #BoTB post yesterday.
The last two years for the April A to Z Challenge I’ve done art sketching as my theme. This year is no different, except I made the decision to assimilate both high-tech (iPad illustrations) and old-school (pencil drawings) sketches this time around. Another thing I’m doing differently is to concentrate on a specific subject. I’m attempting to draw characters from the Disney classic THE LITTLE MERMAID animated movies and TV series.
DD#1 was a year old the year in 1989 when The Little Mermaid film released. It wasn’t until after DD#2 was part of the family that we began collecting Disney cartoon classics. I can’t recall the year we first saw this movie with the girls but they were small perhaps 4 and 2. Some (many actually) of the lines in it targeted the adult audience. I had many laugh-out-loud moments watching this with our girls. I immediately fell in love with the movie and its cast of fun characters practically from the start. Using the step-by-step illustration from wikiHow, I give you the little mermaid, Ariel!
Ariel is the youngest of seven sisters. Her parents are King Triton and Queen Althena. Ariel is headstrong, impatient, and rebellious. She sounds like every other teenage girl I know, except she was born with fins instead of feet. Going against her Father’s stern role, the young girl learns first hand the dangers of a misfortunate future if she’s not able to fulfill a contract and a responsibility that even an adult might have trouble meeting.
[tweetthis]Celebrating the 10th anniversary of the #AtoZChallenge with my 6th-year participation in the April #blogfest. Join me this month with my #TheLittleMermaid characters #artsketch theme. A for #ARIEL. #pencildrawing #prismacolorpencils[/tweetthis]
Filling in my design with Prismacolor pencils proved tricky especially with the smaller elements in my illustration like the eyes and lips. I didn’t do a great job but I had fun doing it all the same. If you enjoyed today’s post I insist you check out yesterday’s BoTB ‘Part of Your World’ showdown (at the bottom of post).
I’m heading off to link up with other fellow AtoZers and you’re invited to come along. For my fellow A2Zers, please leave a breadcrumb (direct post URL) in comments so I might find my way easily to you. You’re invited to return tomorrow for another the next installment in my Little Mermaid Artsketch Series!
