#AtoZChallenge Creating iPad Art Sketches “E”

Hello, Kitten & Dawgs, Last year while drawing people I found the eyes to be really challenging. I wanted to practice purrfecting my inability to capture a realistic eye, so I pushed myself a bit with today’s alphabet prompt with these EYES BEHIND A FAN in my iPad Art Sketch series.

There’s always room for improvement clearly but I enjoyed illustrating this pair of eyes.  What do her eyes say to you?

Thanks for making me apart of your day. Don’t forget to leave your footprints in comments with your signature (URL) so I can find my way back to you.  Please let me know if you’re a new follower, so I can do the return favor. I realized the importance of building social networks.I’m heading off to link up with other fellow AtoZers and you’re invited to come along. Join me tomorrow for more Creating iPad Art Sketches!

  1. She’s somewhere between shock and hovering near fear 🙂 Great eyes — I always struggle to put different emotions in my drawings (they always seem a little angry or ready to pounce).

    1. Eugenia,

I think shyness is what Tom saw in her eyes, too. Thanks for the kind words and visit, my friend. Have a good weekend!

    1. Thanks Janet. I tried to sketch as realistic looking eyes that I possibly can with my developing artistic ability. Maybe one day I’ll get it just right!

    1. Ericka,

DH has brown eyes, mine are sorta hazel-green depending on the light but our children have DH’s brown eyes. So, I have two brown eyed girls. 🙂

  2. I too have recently acquired an iPad pro and Apple pencil… you are further along in learning to use it than I am though! I have not gotten to color yet, just rough sketching. There is a bit of a learning curve when transitioning from Photoshop on my PC. Keep up the good work!

    1. Thanks for the return visit. I got my iPad last June at which time I began hitting that I wanted an Apple pencil for my birthday which is in December. DH surprised me by getting me one and I could’ve not been happier! From that point, I have doodled on my iPad every day which has become my favorite pastime. There’s still much to learn. You’ll do great with yours once you get absorbed with it. Your Photoshop artwork is creative and fun.

  3. Those eyes looked like they are surprised by something. Very nicely done.

I love the video. I played that many times back in the day.

Have a fabulous day, Cathy. Big hugs. ♥

  4. That came out great. And I love that song being that I am a brown-eyed girl.

    1. Ellen,

Thanks! I will continue to sketching eyes. I really admire anyone who can draw people for a living. It’s just amazing to see what some can do with a pencil. 🙂

    1. Jacqui,

I’m happy that you think I did well with my subjects, eyes! It really is difficult to make them look life-like. I’m a long ways from that but I feel I got a little closer than I was a year ago to a more realistic look.

  5. Cathy, love this tune… hmmm maybe cuz I too have brown eyes.. hehehe So, exactly what subject did you pick? I’m trying to find where they have the subjects so I can remember what I picked. Anyway… love love love your picture. Girl, you have such talent. Absolutely wonderful…. you go girl… hugs … Oh, and do they have a list of people we can pick from to visit??? You know, that you know of???

    1. Marie,

Here is the A2Z Master List. The hosts used for bloggers to sign up. Now, they have daily link ups and just below it, there is a separate link to view the daily link ups which kinda looks like a spreadsheet that can be sorted (name, category, etc). Does that make sense? If not, visit today’s A2Z post. You can’t miss you it, you just have to read the content (it’s very short) to find the two links I’m talking about. You asked what subject I picked. On the Master List I put my blog under personal since I can’t say I do a particular thing but for the challenge, I listed my blog under “ART” category. I’m doing iPad art sketches this year. Let me know if I can be of any more help.

  6. Van Moreison’s song is perfect for today. Her eyes look wanting and has a touch of fear in them as well but hopeful.

    1. Birgit,

What does she want, her first kiss, the guy across the way, or a big slice of double chocolate cake? Maybe the later is fear, fear that if she eats that double chocolate cake she’ll add ten pounds to her thighs. lol

    1. Martha,

Yes, maybe she’s afraid of something or as Tom pointed out that she seems a little shy. She has an air of mystery for sure.

  7. Hi, Cathy!

Happy “E” day to you, dear friend. The eyes have it! 🙂 That is a glorious sketch! You brought that girl to life purrfectly. She has a very natural looking gaze. Her eyes are hypnotic. To me they reveal intelligence and vulnerability. They seem to be saying “I am attracted to you, but I am young, shy and inexperienced, so please take it slowly.”

How well I remember Van Morrison’s signature song “Brown Eyed Girl.” I am also reminded of the Beatles lyrics:

Suddenly someone is there at the turnstile
The girl with the kaleidoscope eyes

Thank you very much, dear friend Cathy!

    1. Tom,

Thanks for lovely comment on EYES BEHIND A FAN. I have a long way to go before I can say I nailed sketching eyes but I’m not discouraged in the least, even if I never ‘nail’ it purrfectly. The bottom line for me is to have fun and if I see any improvement then I’m tickled. I thought about sharing song lyrics about ‘eyes’ but I figured song titles would be easier and more recognizable. Great to see you here today, my friend. Have a gr8 day!
