Apple Valley Country Store

Hello, Kittens & Dawgs! Thank you for joining me. I know many of y’all are consumed with Thanksgiving readiness, as I am but hopefully you’re finding time between the prep work to relax with a blog friend or two.

On Monday, I shared Blessings and Honor mewsic. Today, I’m revisiting an old photo I snapped in 2014 with my iPhone. I did a little tweaking in Pixelmator to give it a fresh look and it fits perfectly with the occasion at hand, Thanksgiving.

I used an antique background as an overlay and applied the Pixelmator vintage vignette freesia effect.

  1. I loved the cartoons. I’ve actually been planning to study up on the origin of housecats in America. I assume they first arrived with the Spanish, but I really don’t know.

  2. This is beautiful, Cathy. I need to remember to link up my WW. I always forget. Bill’s new schedule is driving me crazy, as it is for him, too. I think come Spring he will make a change. Congratulations on your DH’s new job! Prayers answered. And we have a new POTUS, too. There is hope. Hugs. Happy Thanksgiving!

    1. Annie, no worries! I understand how easy it is to get out of synch. I’ve been like that every since DH got laid off but the light at the end of the tunnel grows brighter. 🙂 Thank you for your prayers, dear friend and I hope y’all had a fabulous Thanksgiving!

  3. That place looks like such a welcoming store and I can just smell the autumn fragrances and now I want some apple cider

  4. Well I don’t have a Thanksgiving menu set for tomorrow – because I already had my turkey and potatoes and stuffing and pumpkin pie in October 🙂
Not that I would be opposed to some American family adopting so that I can celebrate two Thanksgivings. ha. I mean, more reasons to be thankful is a good thing, right? 🙂

I love this antique finish. It’s perfect for this shot. It really gives me a sense of gratitude and happiness. Isn’t’ it great when you can give new life to an older shot?

  5. Hi, Cathy!

It’s beginning to look a lot like Thanksgiving in the 1950s, thanks to you and your image editing skill. I agree with Claudia that your enhanced picture would make a terrific holiday postcard.

Mrs. Shady and her son and I will be traveling across the state of Florida tomorrow.

    Dashing through the snow
    On a one-horse open sleigh,
    Over the fields we go,
    Laughing all the way; 🙂

We will be having T-giving dinner at her daughter’s house with daughter, her husband and our three grandchildren which includes the youngest, a one year old boy. Fortunately everyone in attendance has identical values and political beliefs and therefore we will not face the kind of uncomfortable situation Mr. Bird would have encountered at a gathering that included members of his wife’s family.

I’ll be here for your Friday Sillies and I’ll have a Black Friday post that day, too. Until then I wish you and DH and your whole family a safe and happy Thanksgiving. This year more than ever before I am thankful for loyal, faithful friends like you, Cathy. 🙂

    God bless!

    1. Tom, yes I thought I need to give my blog a little feast facelift for the holiday. We certainly do not have any snow here even though it’s been cold enough for the past several nights but with no precipitation then the white stuff ain’t gonna fall. We really need it to put out the wildfires in our area. The smoke has been bad and scary at times to see on the news. The fires aren’t near Knoxville but in surrounding counties especially in our Smoky Mountains and the hills of western North Carolina. I hope no one loses their home. Firefighters are vigilantly watching to keep the flames away from people’s property. I’ll see you on Friday, my friend. Thanks for popping in for a visit!

  6. That is a pretty edit, like a postcard you could send a dear one for Thanksgiving.
We will be staying all day and all weekend. It is only going to be the two of us, but we will still fix us a yum big bird 🙂
    Happy Thanksgiving to you, Cathy!

    1. Claudia, quiet Thanksgivings are nice, too. I remember our first Thanksgiving to spend as a couple after years of having the children at home and it felt really strange. It was a little sad. We hope next year this time if DH’s new job turns into a permanent position, that we’ll be in a bigger house and can have everyone over for Thanksgiving!

  7. Apple Valley Country Store up near Townsend was always my go to place to get fudge.

This year I guess it will just be my wife and I having dinner at home by ourselves–that’s fine with me. We’ve hosted many a Thanksgiving crowd over the years, but this year my wife didn’t want to have to do it. With the vast political divide within my wife’s family a gathering might have been uncomfortable as well.

We’ll be having a boneless turkey breast, two kinds of stuffing, mashed potatoes, and sweet potato casserole in smaller portions though I think we’ll have enough for 2 or 3 meals.

    Happy Thanksgiving!

    1. Lee, We are fortunate in that when we gather with family and most friends our political views or general stuff is evenly matched. Your Thanksgiving feast sounds alot like ours planned. I stopped buying a whole turkey several years ago because I felt like I was paying for the bone instead of the meat, which I was because it’s priced by weight, and I began getting the small Butterball all turkey meat that’s kinda like roast. I can get both white and dark meat. This works out perfectly and an easier to deal with, too. Thanksgiving dinner wouldn’t be the same without dessert. I made all homemade from scratch a pumpkin pie, pecan pie, and DH’s grandma’s old-fashion stack cake. All left-overs get put in the freezer for us to enjoy over a period of a few weeks. I’m really anxious to have our Thanksgiving meal now! 😉
