That’s right, it’s our girl Marie’s birthday…well, not exactly but it’s coming real soon so we’re throwing her a party on the the Monday’s Mewsic Moves Me and get this, she’s our honorary co-hostess for June. Whoo-hoo! Her first theme for the month is songs by Frankie Valli, her favorite artist. Let’s get rockin’!
Marie’s favorite song by Valli is “Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You” (1967 #2 Billboard Hot 100) which is definitely one of mine, too. DH liked the tune so well that he picked it for the tune to play in my Giglio Music Box that he got me for our 40th anniversary (2019).
There’s no doubt each of you are familiar with Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons’ #1 hits Sherry – ’62, Big Girls Don’t Cry – ’62, Walk Like A Man – ’63, Rag Doll – ’64, and December 1963 (What a Night) – ’75. All excellent songs but to keep from overplaying these, I thought I’d spotlight Frankie’s music from the 70s, an era in music I remember better with these 7 song picks.
Marie’s Bday Bash playlist tracks: 1. You’re Ready Now 2. My Eyes Adored You 3. Swearin’ to God 4. Fallen Angel 5. Grease 6. Save Me, Save Me 7. Fancy Dancer
Hit play to enjoy the music while you continue visiting with me.
Although You’re Ready Now came out in 1966, it surged in the UK by late 1970 peaking the chart at 11. My Eyes Adored You I recall quite well. It topped the Billboard Hot 100 charts in 1975. The same year Swearin’ to God (#31) and Fallen Angel (#11) did well on the UK chart. Franki did the Grease movie theme song written by Barry Gibbs. It hit the top of the chart in 1978 with two subsequent songs doing well in the Billboard Easy Listening charts the following year Save Me, Save Me (#48 Nov. 1978) and Fancy Dancer (#36 Jan. 1979). It’s strange, I thought surely I’d remember most of the Frankie’s songs from this decade but I only knew the two #1 hits. Most of the songs on my playlist did better across the pond than here in the states which I accredit to the reason why I do not know them but the experience to hear these tunes now was worth the wait.
Born Francesco Stephen Castelluccio on May 3, 1934 but we know him as Frankie Valli has been a wonderful part in many people’s lives over the years. At 87, I can’t imagine he performs on stage but I betcha he’s a shower singer like most of us and wouldn’t it be a treat to hear his voice echoing, Sherry, Sherry baby behind closed doors?

This month’s honorary co-hostess is Marie from XmasDolly

This is a mewsic linky party. Every other week we have a suggested mewsic theme (see side menu) to build your song set around and all participants share YouTube or Vimeo videos for our mewsic enthusiasts. Failure to meet this basic guideline puts your URL in danger of being removed or labeled – NO MUSIC.
I hope you liked my Frankie Valli song picks. DH and I will celebrate our 42nd wedding anniversary in two days. I will wrap things up by playing the song he used in my music box, “Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You”.
Let me remind y’all, I’m now on my summer blogging routine. I’ll be keeping the music alive on the dance floor each week and BOTB at the beginning of the month. Speaking of which, let me recap how things went down in my June 1st showdown.
It became clear early on in this battle who win and the pattern didn’t change much. At one point I afraid it was going to be a shut out but John kept that from happening along with Myke and Nicole everyone else went with the winner. Let’s Raise A Toast to Charlotte Rosse for her 13 to 4 victory! Have a boogietastic week, my friend! X💋X💋, Cathy

Happy birthday to Marie! Great music choices. My older brother loved Frankie Valli, especially Cheri, which happenes to be his wifes name of 51 years! Thank you for sharing.
Anne,
Frankie Valli is a favorite of many. WOW, congrats on your brother’s marriage of 51 years! Thanks for dropping by for a visit, my dear!
I love your 5 Pearls of Wisdom. I wasn’t familiar with some of the Frankie Valli solo songs. I enjoyed “Fallen Angel”. Yes, great minds, with the two songs in your playlist that we both picked.
The 5 Pearls of Wisdom aren’t mine but they sure are good ones and pretty funny, too. As I mentioned to Sandee…I think it was, that the last one in particular put wide grin on my face and I’m pretty sure I giggled. It’s good to know what songs folks like that I share. “Fallen Angel” has a lovely, soft melody. I wonder why it didn’t do well in the states. An artist as big as Valli with as many hits that he has it’s no surprise that our tunes are overlapping but it does take great minds to be on the same page, though. 😀
Happy Birthday, Marie! June is the best birthday month.
Not all Diamonds are Forever, I see… Ouch! 😉
Unfortunately, Myke, in this case that’s true. At least Alyona got four votes. Her cover isn’t what you think of James Bond theme song should be is probably why most turned away from her but I rather like her rendition. I actually like her voice overall better than Charlotte’s.
Is your spam eating my comments?
I won’t leave my link and see what happens.
Lee,
Ahh, maybe it’s the link that WP didn’t like. I don’t think you actually went in my Spam folder, though. I think you were just “Pending”.
Oops! Looks like my comment went into your spam since I’m not seeing it. I’ll leave another if you don’t retrieve it.

Tossing It Out
I’ve been a Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons fan since my junior high school days. They had some great hits. Good choice.
Glad to see my pick won your Battle. Both versions were good but Charlotte really stood out for me and apparently for most of the other voters as well.

Hey Lee,
Two of your three comments needed approving for some odd reason. WP is bonkers sometimes. Charlotte was certainly the standout artist in this battle. She did do a good job. Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons has always had a soft spot in my heart. Their music is magic! Thanks for dropping by!
I’m glad I could break up the shutout…. Good song picks for Marie!
John,
I’m glad you enjoyed my playlist for Marie’s birthday bash!
Happy Birthday, Marie! I love Frankie Valli, too and, Cathy, I enjoyed your Frankie Valli 70s Playlist! Wowza, Cathy! 42 years! Happy Anniversary! 😘🥳
Hey Eugenia,
Yep 42 years, can you believe it? It blows my mind! The years went right out the window!! Thanks for partying with the 4M crew in honor of Marie’s birthday.

Happy Happy Birthday Marie! Love Frankie Valli! And thanks for al your nice comments !!!!!
Kathe,
I’m just sorry it took me until after the challenge to get your A2Z posts completed. And, thanks for popping over for the birthday girl to wish her well. 😀
Believe it or not I never heard the song “Are you ready now”! So far I’ve heard them all. I just heard there’s going to be a movie about Frankie Vali and Nick Jonas is going to play him. Nick Jonas has been on the Voice for 2 seasons… I guess he’s going to take a break because of the movie and Allen Levine is coming back. So cool. Sorry I’m so late. My kids popped over and brought all the grandchildren too… hmmmm let’s see about 8 children and 2 adults. Wow, Felt like a birthday party to me. I’m sorry I didn’t finish my blog, but I’m gonna look for your e-mail and get er’ done! Thank you so much! HUGS
Marie,
Hey no worries, girlfriend! I finally got over to your place this morning. I didn’t even notice your comments because…WordPress was wanting for me to approve yours. See you gotta watch this stuff all the time because weird stuff like this happens sometimes. Anyway, I’m glad you enjoyed my song picks. That’s cool Nick Jonas will play Frankie Valli. Nick is a likeable fella. It’ll be fun to see Adam Levine back on The Voice again. He and Blake have a fun chemistry. Have a boogietastic week and when your special day comes around I hope it rocks, birthday girl!
Wonderful music.
Wishing Marie many happy returns of the day!
Mimi,
Thank you, my friend! 😉
All great picks. Regardless of the date… Happy Birthday to Marie!

Happy Birthday to Marie! Love the words of wisdom. 🙂 Happy Anniversary!! XO
Thanks for coming to Marie’s birthday/dance party, Ellen! And, thank you for the happy anniversary wish. 🙂
I always liked the 4 Seasons especially that song, “Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You”. Except for Grease, I really didn’t know about the other songs at all. some were ok to listen to but they were not my cup of tea. Happy Birthday to Marie! I hope the festivities are great. I am glad Charlotte won.
Birgit,
A few of the 70s song titles didn’t really click with me, either. His most recognizable tunes however are always fun to hear over and over. Thanks for coming to Marie’s birthday party and joining us on the dance floor, my friend!

Wow the results on the battle of the bands was really one sided. Not surprised tough.
Love Can’t Take My Eyes Off You. It was a favorite of mine too.
Love the pearls of wisdom. Made me smile.
Thank you for joining the Awww Mondays Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Awww Monday and week, Cathy. Love and hugs. ♥
Sandee,
Marie is going to like you singing to her. 🙂
I could almost see the writing on the wall with this BOTB but I had hoped the vote count would’ve been closer. It wasn’t, though.
The Pearls of Wisdom made me smile, too. That last one really got me. lol
That was an interesting cover by Frankie…
Thanks for boogieing with me, Robin! Have a funtastic evening. 🙂
Hi, Cathy!
Happy Awww-some 4M Monday to you, dear friend! I hope you and DH had a nice weekend.
Happy birthday to friend Marie! I’m smiling like that pooch in the first meme because, like b-day girl Marie, I love the singing style of Frankie Valli and his popular vocal group The Four Seasons (stylized as “4 Seasons” on many of their singles). I never before heard The Four Seasons cover of “Happy, Happy Birthday Baby.” The only version I knew was the 1957 original recorded by The Tune Weavers, a Boston area R&B doo-wop group. The song was written by Margo Sylvia, lead singer of The Tune Weavers, following her painful break-up with a member of another doo-wop group, The Sophomores. Margo’s Tune Weavers waxed the song and, in the fall of ’57, the single reached the top 5 on both the pop and the R&B chart. It is believed “Happy, Happy Birthday Baby” inspired two future hits: “I’m On The Outside (Looking In)” by Little Anthony and the Imperials, a top 20 record in 1964, and “Wasted Days and Wasted Nights” a top 10 single for Freddy Fender in 1975.
Like you and Marie, I count “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” among my Frankie faves. I was a regular at the Shady Dell during the peak of its popularity and remember the record being played on the dance hall jukebox. That single was also played heavily at another York area venue I frequented. That restaurant and juke joint will be the focus of another Shady’s Place series making its debut later this month. Stay tuned! That’s a gorgeous music box DH got you for your 40th wedding anniversary, and sweet of him to have it play “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You.” I wish you both a special day of thanksgiving and celebration as you mark your 42nd wedding anniversary this Wednesday! As I have stated many times, you are lucky to have found each other all those years ago.
I enjoyed your Frankie Valli 70s play list. Four of the songs were new to my ears this morning. I well remember the other three, “My Eyes Adored You.” “Swearin’ To God” and “Grease,” because they were big solo hits for Frankie. The opening notes of “Swearin’ To God” and “Grease” in particular are so dynamic – so distinctive – that 99% of all boomers would be able to “Name That Tune” in 2 seconds flat. That’s the way to make a hit record!
Thanks for reporting the result of your band battle. Early on, I got a sense that Charlotte Rosse’s Bondworthy version of “Diamonds” would run away with it.
Have a safe and happy anniversary week, dear friend Cathy!
Tom,
You were the early bird to hit the dance floor this morning, my friend. “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” is a classic. I’d say it’s a favorite of many. DH is a super precious husband and you’re so right, I’m lucky…we’re lucky to have connected. I credit God for bringing to me the love of my life. Thank you for the very sweet sentiments for our anniversary. It doesn’t feel like we’ve been married 42 years. Oh yeah, I have to tell you this….the other day DH said, we’ve been married 43 years. I said, no, it’s 42 years. He looked at me and said, yeah but it feels like 43. lol That cracked me up! I’m delighted you enjoyed the Frankie Valli 70s playlist. He has a number of memorable tunes. Yes, sir you were right on your call for Charlotte to winin my last BOTB. I figure she would do the best but I got quite worried when Alyona didn’t get a single vote but I’m happy some liked her. Charlotte’s cover is definitely like a James Bond theme song. Thanks for joining the dance/birthday party and have a boogietastic week!
