  1. Bagpipes can be fun or a torment. I think it’s a matter of circumstance. One of my favorite concert memories was seeing The Sensational Alex Harvey Band in 1975 at the Knoxville Colosseum. Opening their act was a couple of bagpipers coming in from the back of the hall up to the stage where the band took its place.

They opened for Jethro Tull who put on an equally amazing show. I was sitting on the front row right in the center and it was so amazing.

    1. Lee,

I gather as much from John that learning how to play the bagpipes is difficult. While I certainly enjoy listening to mewsic that uses this instrument, I find it hard to listen to a lot of bagpipes at one time for very long. But, there’s something very powerful and moving to see live bagpipe performers.

  2. Amazing Grace on the bagpipe is almost always the most haunting and soulful sound. While it is often used at memorial services, the song and arrangement can be quite thought provoking. Have a blessed week.

    1. Driller,

My mother used a bagpipes versions of ‘Amazing Grace’ at my baby brother’s funeral in 2006. It was beautiful and deeply touching – so purrfect! I miss him so much, too.

    1. Ellen,

Thanks for visiting. Yes, ‘songs using unusual mewsic instruments’ is a fun theme. I’ve enjoyed everyone’s posts this week. I hope other folks hit the dance floor with their choices.
