Howdy, Kittens & Dawgs! Last year this time, DH and I were enjoying a drive in the mountains. It was a gorgeous spring day but the wind had a nippy bite. We stopped at an overlook along the Cherohala Parkway and walked the very short trail to the observation deck.
The panoramic view is nice but what really caught my eye as we were leaving were the trees. What character, I thought and had to snap a shot. Now, looking at it doesn’t look like much but I played with the image coming up with a new photo artwork which I really like and I’ll share it on Friday.
Do you see a shot like this and think I can use this scene in my photo editor for something really cool or do you just say, Nah, I don’t like that so much and go on?
Let’s move on to my last week’s BoTB. The song choice was John Fogerty’s Have You Ever Seen The Rain covered by Belinda Carlisle and Karen Souza. At firs,t both contestants were at even keel but then Carlisle pulled out taking the lead and stayed in front of the showdown by a big margin. While I liked Belinda, Karen’s slow jazzy tempo seemed to suit my mood but casting a vote for Souza still left her with less than half the number of tallies. The gal earning the golden mic with a 9 to 4 victory is…
Check with Stephen to see how the other BoTB showdowns went down last week. I’m undecided on what to do about April 1st BoTB. It’s sorta up in the air with the A-Z Challenge but if I can swing it, then I’ll do it. 🙂 I’ll leave you with this bonus track, and just a short reminder that next week I’ll be away from Blogosphere mostly while I pull together my A2Z posts set to begin March 31. I hope you’ll hop over for your weekly dose of giggles with Friday Sillies!

Beautiful photos, you are an excellent photographer.
Ellen, you’re much too sweet. Thanks, dearie! 🙂
I love trees on the edges of photos, always adds dimension.
Karren, I like framing my photos with trees or shrubs, like you said it gives it dimension and more!
I think you can do a lot with those craggy tree photos. Perhaps black and white or increased contrast.
Rhonda, well…I can see you’re thinking much like me with your suggestion. You’re definitely on to something but I took an additional step. I hope you’ll check back Friday to see what I did!
Great photos. I love the details in the sky.
Thanks for a little Belinda today. Had a major crush on her back in the day.
Thanks for hosting and have a wonderful rest of the week.
Patrick, so glad you joined me today! Belinda is a pretty gal, I can see why you had a crush on her. 🙂
Oh I love this photo a lot.. it’s so soothing and nice.
It must be wonderful to live near the mountains and see that view all the time! The pictures are gorgeous and I agree with you about the trees!
beautiful sky up there! it always makes me so relaxed 🙂
Oh wow! I love that second photo so much!
Thank you for stopping by Alissa and I’m delighted you enjoyed my second photo! 😉
Love those photos Cathy nice and serene too 🙂
I remember buying the original “Have You Ever Seen The Rain” on a single which is quite strange seeing I am only 21…coughs I must get my cough sorted 🙂
I quite liked the Belinda Carlisle version too. 🙂
Have a springtasticated week Cathy 🙂
Hey Steve, I hear you I’m only 18 but there’s something strange and familiar about this song. Is it deja vue or is this song from a past life? lol Belinda did a great job but Karen’s cover resonated with me more. I think that’s because I wanted to hear this song as a jazz number. I’m so happy it’s spring at last! Have a good week, my friend!
Hi, Cathy!
I see potential in that snapshot of the trees because I already like the composition with the bare branches forming an interesting pattern contrasted against the clear blue sky. I am eager to see how you tweaked it.
Both renditions of “Rain” offered in your BOTB were great. In fact, I liked all three covers you posted. It doesn’t surprise me that Belinda collected more votes, but I am pleased to know that your ears matched mine in the contest. I’m glad you appreciated Karen Souza’s jazzy take on the rock classic.
I have Belinda Carlisle in my personal collection and I used her “Heaven” hit in one of my 80s seminar documentaries. It was designated as an official “anchor song,” a song played often throughout the week long program to empower participants. I enjoyed your Belinda bonus song, too. I never heard “Sun” before and it brightened my morning.
Thanks for reporting the outcome of your battle, dear friend Cathy, and have a wonderful day!
Tom,
Thanks for spending the morning with me. I think you’ll like my photo-editing of the second photo. The tweaks were simple but made a nice new image! Yes, our ears matched this round. I think I embraced Karen’s version because this is what I was looking for in a cover and she did a lovely job. I’m delighted you enjoyed Carlisle’s bonus track. I really haven’t listened to her mewsic since the 80s, so it’s refreshing to hear what these artists from my 20s are up to today. Have a good day, my friend!
Two lovely pictures. I like framing with trees. Thank you for hosting. Have a good week.
Klara, I like framing my scene with trees, too. I’m so delighted you decided to join me today!
Someday I’ve got to drive that parkway.
Both versions were good, but I really did like Belinda’s better. And like some others said I do believe I liked it better than CCR.

Lee,
Most people liked Belinda’s cover over her rival but I find it a stretch to say these were better than CCR’s original, though. I guess I’m just too much of a fan! Yes, you definitely drive the Cherohala Parkway. It’s not as spectacular as going through the Smoky’s or driving along the BRPW but it’s tranquil and everyone little bit a nice view grabs your attention. The observation deck in today’s image is a very short walk from the parking area and hardly ever busy. 🙂
