Devil’s Courthouse

As you know, I have pulled photos from my archives. All month, I have shared with you one foggy day on the Blue Ridge Parkway. In last week’s post, here, the image is near Devil’s Courthouse.

That got me to thinking, do I have any foggy pictures of Devil’s Courthouse? After searching through all of my old digital photos I came up empty-handed. Well….I’m not totally without.

There is a relatively easy trail to hike the short distance to the top of the cliffs at Devil’s Courthouse. We did this once when the children were young and I survived. Often times, when we’re in the area we can see rock climbers on the side of the mountain from where I took this photo. Rock climbing isn’t permitted, but people do it anyway.

In trying to keep with my series of dramatic foggy shots, I applied the gray-scale effect to my photo.

I got to thinking, I knew I had a more recent picture of Devil’s Courthouse and I was right. In fact, I used my big girl camera shortly after I bought her in 2012. Here it is…

I made recent image tweaks downsizing large pictures and changing copyright info but when I originally wrote this post I took the above image to use with two free photo-editing apps which I no longer have and I deleted the modified images.

  1. Those are breathtakingly beautiful! It is amazing what a person can do with a photo, now. Problem is, though, you never know, anymore, if a photo you see in passing is really as life is, or has been altered. Great for nature pics, but used far too much in the modeling world on people’s body images.

  2. I really like the foggy images. What a beautiful spot. If you were allowed to climb or hike, I would definitely be hauling my camera up there.
I use Picasa so that I can edit or add filters, and then it automatically adds my watermark when I upload it to my Picasa Web Album. But eventually I would like an actual photography website and I will use my Canon software more then.

  3. Hi Cahty,
I am sure climbing there on Devil’s Courthouse is very interesting. Great shoot with the foggy sky and beautiful edits!
Thanks for sharing, for hosting this nice project and happy wednesevening, Wieczora (◔‿◔) | my photoblog
