Whatever music moves you!

Awww Mondays hosted by Sandee from Comedy Plus.

Welcome to Monday’s Music Moves Me on Sundays!

This is the last Monday in February.  The 4M honorary co-hostess this month has been Robin and our final theme this is whatever music moves you with freedom of choice. In 2018, I came across The Band of Heathens “All I’m Asking“.  The American rock and roll band hails from Austin, Texas forming in 2005.  Their music style spans several genres from Americana to  blue-eyed soul.   Why it took more than a decade for them to reach my ears is beyond my comprehension but nonetheless I was happy to make the discovery.  This morning,  I’m sharing one of their newer albums, Stranger, that released in 2020.

Song tracks: 1. Vietnorm 2. Dare 3. Black Cat 4. How Do You Sleep? 5. Call Me Gilded 6. South By Somewhere 7. Asheville Nashville Austin 8. Truth Left 9. Today Is Our Last Tomorrow 10. Before the Day is Done
4M regular co-hostesses: Marie, Stacy, Alana, and Me

THE PARTY BEGINS HERE!

This is a music linky party. Every other week we have a suggested music theme (see weekly prompts here) to build your song set around and all participants share YouTube or Vimeo videos for our music enthusiasts.  Failure to meet this basic guideline puts your URL in danger of being removed or labeled – NO MUSIC.

4M designed by Cathy Kennedy

Special thanks to Robin for the fantastic job as February’s special co-hostess.  Your themes were great fun and we look forward to having you on board to do it again in the future.

Marie got turned around on her days last week.  That’s happened to me a time or two over the years,  but she hopes to boogie with us this week.  This is CAAC signing off, please join me on Tuesday for my newest James Bond theme songs edition of BOTB!.  Have a awwwesome week!  X💋X💋, Cathy

  1. I liked your Austin band find. Nice music. The video made me think back on my twenties when we’d hang out in the Smokies.

    1. Lee,

Oh that’s cool BoH music made you think of days spent in the Smoky’s as a young adult. Thanks for dropping by for a visit, my friend.

    1. Alana,

I enjoyed the album quite a bit. It’s hard for me single out a favorite. I meant to include the link to All I’m Asking in this post, so I just updated the content to reflect the link. That’s a good song. Thanks for boogieing with me, darlin’!

    1. I love the sound of southern rock. I never knew that much about the different music genres until after I got involved with blogging more specifically anything music related in Blogosphere. Thanks for checking out my music this week, John. Have a boogietastic week!

  2. Awww on those two cutie pies. They’re ready.

Love the playlist. Not heard them until today.

Thank you for joining the Awww Mondays Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous Awww Monday and week. Love and hugs, Cathy. ♥

  3. My goodness it’s 3:58 a.m. and I’m so tired I’m starting to feel ill. I need to write down instructions and follow them. I thought I had it and no not in the least and I’m so tired. Maybe I’ll try again when I wake up. I’m sorry I’m such a let down to you and all my friends. I do so apologize. Have a wonderful day. I’ll be back later. Promise. Love, Marie

    1. Marie,

I’m happy to help any way that I can, just ask! 😉 Yes, do take notes on what you do. That’ll make it easier to follow the next time and the time after that until you get the hang of things again. Don’t worry about it, you’re not a let down to anyone. We all understand. These things require patiences and tenacity. You will find your way back to blogging as before, my dear! XO

    1. I rarely understand everything about a band or why the artists go with a particular name. Band of Heathens isn’t a name I like but they surely have the right sound. Thanks for popping by!

  4. I love those little kitties! I never heard of this band but they are quite good and I enjoyed listening to them. They are like the old style ways which I prefer. I love that quote!

    1. Birgit,

I like the old style, too. It’s great to find new artists who gravitate toward the sounds of yesterday. There was a fella on The Voice last season named Peedy Chavis who reminded me of Elvis that I wanted to see make it all the way but didn’t. He’s a young fella who’s only 19. Check out the video of his blind performance.

  5. Hi, Cathy!

Happy Pawww-some 4M Monday on Sunday, dear friend! I hope you and DH are having a nice weekend.

Awww, I just wanna scratch those two cuddly kittens on their bellies.

Band of Heathens is brand new to my ears this morning, but the sound they put down takes me back to the southern rock of the late 60s and 70s. The list of genres they span includes Americana, folk rock, country blues, jam rock, roots rock and blue-eyed soul. Rolling Stone calls their style “comfort rock,” and likens their sound to The Rolling Stones and The Eagles. I thoroughly enjoyed their “head in the clouds” themed “Vietnorm” song and mewsic video showing what appears to be a group of 20-somethings getting away from it all and enjoying solitude at a bungalow in the country. It reminds me of the soul hits “Cloud Nine” by the Temptations and “Up On The Roof” by the Drifters in that it deals with a way to escape from harsh reality, only the drug use is explicit in the B.O.H. song and video. “Black Cat” is a tremendous song. Band of Heathens is telling a story I’m not sure I understand, but that doesn’t matter to me where mewsic is concerned because the “vehicle,” the melody + sound mix, is all that matters. The layering is glorious. It reminds me of the ELO song “Showdown.” You’ve got soulful vocals enhanced in an echo chamber, electric strings and great backing vocals. I’m sure you appreciate the animated video, too. The video for the song “South By Somewhere,” a reference to Austin’s S X SW Mewsic Festival, is presented as a movie trailer. ‘Today Is Our Last Tomorrow” is another gem with animation for you to enjoy. It illustrates the threats and conflicts of modern life in America including the spread of Coronavirus. The line “Yesterday was good, wouldn’t change it if I could,” rings true. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to Band of Heathens. It’s easy to see and hear why they were voted “Best New Band” at the 2007 Austin Music Awards.

Your closing meme offers food for thought, dear friend Cathy. Thank you for the great entertainment to start my day. Have a wonderful week and I’ll see you next time!

    1. Tom,

Yes, DH and I had a nice weekend. We managed to get out on Friday to take a little drive. It was a pretty day but windy and cool. Spring isn’t too far away now.
Band of Heathens are very much like southern rock backs from decades ago. I’m sure that’s the reason why I was so drawn to their sound. I love making such discoveries and I’m delighted you enjoyed the band as much as I do.
