Wayback Wednesdays…1996

Posted on October 26, 2011

Welcome to Wayback Wednesdays!  Angela is our beautiful, expecting Mama hostess has appointed me as her side-kick for this mid-week round of fun and I say to her, “Thanks!”

Today, we’re going to travel back in time to 1996.

The First Mammal was Successfully Cloned.

Do you recall what it was? No, but that’s a good guess. Although, we certainly have a lot of clones running around in Washington, DC.  Jackasses weren’t used in the experiment. It was sheep. Yep, sheep. That’s right, the jackasses (both sides of the political fence) decided they needed more sheep to follow vote for them. Wha-lah, like magic the research center got their funding.

Honestly, though isn’t this cute? No one would complain about seeing these little adorable guys cloned, huh?

Mad Cow Disease Outbreak in the UK. This was some scary stuff. I remember wondering if it would reach us and it did in 2003. Thankfully, we didn’t see any human infestation of the disease or at least none reported.

Surefire signs that your cow has mad cow disease…

  • Your cow insists on wearing a little A-1 sauce behind each ear as cologne.
  • She refuses to let you milk her, saying “Not on the first date.”
  • Your cow takes up painting and cuts off one of its ears.
  • Your cow gets a silicon implant for her udder.
  • Your cow appears on Oprah, claiming to be a horse trapped in a cow’s body.
  • Your cow demands to be branded with the ‘Golden Arches Logo’.
  • Your cow insists that all Hindus are sacred.
  • Your cow insists evaporated milk comes from thirsty cows.
  • Your cow quits the family dairy business and applies for a job at Burger King.
  • She starts giving you Milk of Amnesia.
  • Your cow joins the Hell’s Angels because, hey, it already has a cool leather jacket.
  • Your cow starts smoking its grass rather than eating it.
  • Your cow spends half the day sitting in the Lotus Position chanting “MOO” backwards.
  • Your cow insists that it can give you chocolate milk if you started feeding it Hershey bars.
  • Your cow asks you to brand it again but only if you’ll wear something sexy this time.
  • Your cow purposely blinds itself with a dart and yells “Bullseye”!
  • Your cow becomes a Muslim and asks to be called “LaCream Abdul Milkbar”.
  • Your cow insists Milk Duds are the result of stupid cows.
  • Your cow starts laughing hysterically until milk spurts out its nose.
  • You find your cow hiding secret plans to burn down half of Chicago.
  • Your cow keeps wanting to chew other cows cuds.
  • Your cow believes it could really jump over the moon like in the nursery rhyme if it had a really good run at it.

First-class postage cost .32 cents.  One of my favorite stamps was…

Here’s a kinda cool coincidence…The online auction and shopping website, eBay launched its worldwide presence!

Our DVD collection includes two of my favorite box office hits from this year:

Independence Day
Mission: Impossible

And, one I very much would love to get is 101 Dalmatians! This brings back such memories. My kiddos simply adored this movie.

Personal highlights include:

  • February snow storm dumped several inches on Knoxville – kiddos go wild!
  • Witnessed Comet Hyakutake from Newfound Gap in the Smoky’s with the kiddies – way cool!
  • Daughter #2 loses first tooth and gashes forehead above left eye (not in the same day) – awesome and frightening!
  • Visited several historical spots in Kentucky: Fort Knox, Mammoth Cave, Abraham Lincoln’s Cabin, Patton Museum, Daniel Boone’s Grave, Old Talbott Tavern (Outlaw Jesse James shoot up one of the rooms.) – totally neat stuff!
  • Drove to Sevierville, TN (about 30 mins from Knoxville) to see the Olympic torch runner pass through heading to the Atlanta games – once in a lifetime thingy!

Now, this brings back fond memories of halloween that year when our three kiddos dressed as little Indians. Oh, how my heart simply melts thinking on precious sweet times!

Okay, it’s your turn to go wayback, Wayback to 1996!

Bible verse of the day

These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

4M Guidelines: Below are the 4M co-hostess. The rules are simple. Every other week, a suggested (not mandatory) theme is given to build your song picks. We're looking for embedded music to enjoy, one song or several. On the off weeks, we dance to whatever music moves you (your choice)! It's just that easy. Have fun and welcome to the party!
