Good-morning, Kittens & Pups! Thanks for joining me for the mid-week photo fun. As you know, I’m going at blogging for the rest of the year at a very low-key with all the holiday activities. Gee, can you believe tomorrow is Thanksgiving? Not me! Anywho, this week’s not-so Wordless Wednesday and Skywatch Friday contribution is a peek from a Saturday drive this summer in the rural community of Hiawassee. I don’t know if this is working gas station but I believe there is restaurant or convenient store inside. Obviously you can see the rafts for rent. The Hiawassee river flowed along the back side of this old Texaco station and yes, we saw rafters floating down the river. It was a gorgeous day!
Feel free to join in the fun and I promise to visit you ASAP!
[tweetthis]I linked up with Curious as a Cathy for some not-so #WW fun & I invite you join the party! #photography[/tweetthis]
I wasn’t sure if Joyce would put up the Wednesday Hodgepodge Q&A this week but yesterday’s interruption with two doctor appointments left me with little time. Here they are for you to ansewr if you’d like in comments or to snag and play along. We’ll just see if I can manage to answer them before my post goes live! 😀
1. Tradition...how tightly do you cling to tradition when it comes to holiday gatherings and celebrations? For instance do you always do the cooking, never eat at home, always go to grandma’s, never miss the parade, always watch football, never change the menu, always eat at 2 PM, etc.? Have you ever celebrated Christmas or Thanksgiving away from hearth, home, and family? How did that feel? The only consistent tradition we keep is a “traditional” Thanksgiving Day meal – turkey, ham, green beans, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes with gravy, stuffing, buttermilk biscuits, pumpkin pie, pecan pie, and old fashion stack cake. The holidays are always spent with family.
2. Help...is it easy for you to ask for help or are you a do-it-yourselfer? How is that a good/bad thing? I don’t mind asking for help but I prefer to do everything. Cooking gives me a lot of joy.
3. Abundance…what is there an abundance of in your kitchen? There’s an abundance of love, everything I prepare is from the heart for those I love!
4. Name…the smallest thing you’re thankful for? the biggest? The Smallest thing, I’m thankful for…Cheerio’s. This is my favorite breakfast cereal! The biggest thing, I’m thankful for…Jesus. Without Him, I’d have nothing! You know Cheerio’s make me think of a tiny life-preserver and Jesus is the Savior of the world. How cool is that? 😉
5. Key...What do you think is the key to living a more grateful life? The key for me is knowing that I have more than most and those who have more than me, I’m happy for their blessings. At any time what we have can be taken from us – home, job, love, or life. We’ve come close to losing our home on a couple of occasions when DH went through unemployment patches years ago, so I’m truly appreciate everything in my life and give God praise for every blessing.
6. State your own random thought here. I’ll keep it simple by sharing the results of last week’s BoTB showdown. The three ladies were not equally matched as I had hoped but I enjoyed the different Be Thankful For What You Have renditions. Each artist did a fabulous job which made my job difficult on who to give my vote to but like most of you, I felt Contender #1 covered the song with more heart. The final tally…
Lady C – 10
One Blood – 4
Rumer – 3
Congrats to the Lady C on a huge victory, now here’s another sample of her mewsical talent!

If you’re curious to learn how other battles went down visit Stephen for a complete list of participators. Mark your calender for December 1st for the next round of Battle of the Bands for a Twisted Christmas Showdown!
Blogosphere is going to be like a ghost town for the next few days in America. I know I will find it difficult to make my rounds but I will get to you sooner or later (probably later than I want). I prefer you spend your time with the family, so have a blessed time and please give thanks to God (everyone can do this regardless where you live) for all you have no matter how small for everything we have comes from above!
Please don’t forget to hit the dance floor with Monday’s Mewsic Moves Me. Have a good day!

At least you got a distribution of votes even though Lady C kinda stomped the others.
My wife and I had a nice restful Thanksgiving weekend. I fixed a scaled down version of a traditional Turkey Day meal for the two of us and for nearly 3 days we didn’t leave the house and just watched movies, took naps, and ate leftovers. It was wonderful.

Lee,
Yeah, Lady C did stomp the other contenders and at first I thought the others wouldn’t get any votes but then things changed as they so often times do in these battles. I’m glad you and your wife had a relaxing Thanksgiving weekend. We did, too. It’s nice having that alone time with your spouse. We enjoyed our alone time but missed not having the kids around, too. Oh well…maybe next year we can manage a large gathering.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!
Thanks, Mimi! 😘
Just wanted to wish you and your family a lovely Thanksgiving. 🙂
Ahh, thank you for the warm wishes and I’m sorry for the delay in responding. I hope you and yours had a blessed Thanksgiving!
I love that gas station. So very cool. Thanks for hosting and I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
Patrick,
Me, too! Wouldn’t it be cool if these made a comeback?
A blast from the past- great photo! Happy Thanksgiving!
Neat vintage gas station photo ~ ^_^

Happy Thanksgiving to the USA
Carol,
Thanks for popping by! 😉
Reminds me of the gas stations of my youth. So different then.
I hope your Thanksgiving is filled with peace, love and great joy too.
Have a fabulous Wordless Wednesday. ☺
Sandee,
Yeah, I love vintage buildings and signs such as the Texaco station. There were many like this in the rural community of my youth. I remember when Daddy got gas, an attendant always cleaned his windshield while the gas pumped. Gone are the days!
Cathy, I think we are kindred spirits or sisters or something. We think alike in many areas. I always enjoy your posts (though not a fan of the pin-ups). I wish you and yours a very happy Thankd=sgiving. Warm hugs! It is 22F here!
Annie,
I think we’re a lot alike, too. I know you’re not a fan of pinup art and I applaud you for hanging with me in spite of our different views considering the “too offended” world we now live in today. Ooo, 22º is just too cold for this southern flower but the warm hugs are appreciated! 😀
Happy Thanksgiving! Always nice to learn more about you from the weekly questions.
Ellen,
The Hodgepodge is a fun way to get better acquainted with others. I’m glad you enjoyed my answers. 😉
Hi, Cathy!
That first picture reminds me of the “Flying A” filling station located near our home in the 1950s. My brother got his first job there pumping gas and cleaning windshields. FF tens years and he had his own garage and towing service.
I reviewed the three performances in your BOTB and my ears still prefer the reggae styling of One Blood. My team finished a distant second in your contest but that’s how it goes. Congratulations on getting so many people to participate.
As I believe I told you before, when I was young, all of the connected families gathered at my aunt and uncle’s farmhouse for the Thanksgiving feast. In more recent years, until her death in 2002, Mrs. Shady’s mother cooked the T-giving dinner and we ate at her house. In the years since the matriarch passed away, Mrs. Shady and her sisters have taken turns hosting the annual feast.
I am thankful to have your friendship, Cathy, and I wish you and yours a safe and happy holiday!
Tom,
Thanks for stopping by this morning. I’m away from Blogosphere for the rest of the week. DH is off the rest of the week. Yay, me! Anywho, Those old full-service gas stations are a thing of the past. The last one I can think of here in town closed shop a few years ago and it was kinda sad. I came close to going with One Blood this time but changed my mind for reasons stated. I think all three gals are winners with their renditions. Yes, I do remember you telling me of your childhood Thanksgivings. I’m glad that you Mrs. Shady and her sis carry forward with a traditional holiday. I hope Y’all have a wonderful time wrapped in the warmth of good company and a bountiful feast! Be safe!
