Victorian Woman

Posted on April 26, 2022

It is day 25 of the A to Z Challenge.  From this point forward things might get sticky for me as I wind this challenge up.  You see, I’m finally caught up with my scheduled posts and am trying my level best to stay get my daily art illustration done.

Today’s alphabet prompt is “V”.  My newly recreation is quite a bit different from the original.  I started off sketching my Victorian Woman’s hair as before but It bothered me, so I looked at more images of women from that period and decided for my Procreate design to change it slightly.

Thanks for allowing me to be a part of your day.  It’s time to head over to the A2Z headquarters. You’re welcome to come with me.  That’s it for now but I’m ending things on a song pick for the day that works well with my art theme.  Carrie Jacobs Bond born in 1862 was the first woman to successfully publish her sheet music selling one million copies and a song that I grew up hearing, “I Love You Truly”.  Connie Francis recorded the song a few months short of my arrival in this world in August 1961.  In 1910, her song “A Perfect Day” sold 25 million copies.  Instead of using a vintage recording of a Victorian woman, I found a modern acoustic version done by YouTuber, Annette Graefe which I rather liked. I hope you enjoy it, too.  This is CAAC signing off, I’ll be back tomorrow with the next letter in the alphabet!

      Eugenia,

I like the overall redesign of my Victorian woman. She has a sweeter expression and I like that incorporated the extra details this time around.

Hi Cathy, good to see you’re hanging in there! I love the revised version of your Victorian woman. She looks like a saucy wench. 😀

    Hi, Cathy!

Happy TIckle Me Tuesday and V-Day, dear friend! The A to Z finish line is now in sight!

I believe I told you years ago when you first posted your Victorian Woman that Mrs. Shady is also an artist and specializes in portraits of Victorian women. We have several of her paintings framed and hanging on the walls of our home. Whenever we welcome first time visitors, they are immediately attracted to those paintings . They make excellent conversation starters.

I very much admire the reworked version of your Victorian Woman. You did indeed make several significant changes to the original drawing. The lady in the colorized version has bigger, fuller hair and wears earrings and a choker.. We can also see the dress she is wearing and the shape of her bosom. She is posing at an angle, gazing slightly to the side instead of directly at us. Her mouth is closed. In the black & white sketch, her lips are parted. I love what you’ve done, Cathy!

I enjoyed the introduction to Annette Graefe, a German singer and guitarist who performs covers and originals, in this case singing “A Perfect Day,” a folk song written by Carrie Jacobs Bond way back in 1910, shortly after the end of the Victorian era, two years before Margaret Schneider was born and three years before my father’s birth.

Thank you very much for the exciting artwork and beautiful folk song this morning, dear friend Cathy. Have a terrific, tunetastic Tuesday and I’ll see you tomorrow on W-Day!

      Tom,

When I began working on my Victorian Woman, I remembered you first telling me Mrs. Shady herself is an artist and enjoys painting women from this era. I would like to see her work and I certainly understand how her pieces of art are perfect conversation starters. I’m glad you like the rework. I am pleased with the changes. Carrie Jacobs Bond’s well known song, “I Love You Truly” published 2-years after my paternal grandmother’s birth. Unfortunately, she died much too soon at the age of 72 from cancer. My daddy is the only person left. He is now the oldest living relative from his immediate family and will celebrate his 84th bday in July if the good Lord willing. His health isn’t the best nor is my mom’s which alarms me often. Thanks for your daily visits this month and encouragement, dear friend!
