It is day 21 of the A to Z Challenge and we’re now in the home stretch. This blogfest is literally drawing to an end, not forever but for this challenge. I’ll continue to sketch to my heart’s delight. My favorite illustration in 2017 had to be the black unicorn. I recall how surprised I was with my ability. I spot the imperfections in that earlier drawing but still I feel good about it. I took this opportunity to work on the placement and size of the unicorn’s front legs. I think the redraw helped. See for yourself in the Procreate recreation versus the original. Dontcha think the image comparison feature is really cool?
It’s time to head over to the A2Z headquarters and you’re welcome to come with me. I’m closing with another music discovery, “The Last Unicorn” by Kenny Loggins from his Return To Pooh Corner album. Thanks for including me in your day. This is CAAC signing off, I’ll be back tomorrow with the next letter in the alphabet!

This is great! I love unicorns!
Excellent job, Cathy! Have a great week, ahead!
They’re both unique and beautiful. Hapoy Monday!
Such a cool Unicorn, we like the black, white & color too!
I live the sketch and the coloured version. Tge legs do look better. You have a great ability in shading. I love the shading in the sketch but love the golden mane. I also love what Shady wrote about the Unicorn. There are the famous tapestries of the unicorn in NYC. They are medieval when the unicorn meant the blood of Christ. I enjoyed listening to the song also
Love the unicorn. Colors are bringing your sketches alive. Beautiful.
Love the music.
Have a fabulous day and week, Cathy. Love and hugs. ♥
Love the coloring on this one, Cathy! Makes it much more magical.
Hi Cathy, hope you had a good weekend. I love the way you colored this. That pale blue and the dark accents of shadow are fabulous. Have a very good Monday.
Hi, Cathy!
Happy Monday and U-Day, dear friend! I hope you and DH had a nice weekend and successfully completed that project you mentioned.
Yessum, this image comparison feature you’re using is wonderful. It beats having to follow a link back to the 2017 post. I loved your Unicorn sketch back then, and I love it now that you have performed a coloorization. I think his legs look slightly more sturdy after the redraw. They would need to be strong and sturdy to bear the weight of the majestic beast. Here is what the unicorn symbolizes, according to the worldbirds.com site: “The unicorn symbolism is linked to purity, freedom, gentleness, virginity, innocence, divinity, and magic. Christians believe that the unicorn symbol is that of Christ and Mother Mary themselves. Seeing unicorns in dreams is inevitably a sign of good luck, happiness, and a positive omen.” I admire your unicorn’s blonde mane and the pretty rainbow that forms an arch over his head. Lovely, Cathy!
The Jimmy Webb song “The Last Unicorn,” performed by Kenny Loggins, is inspiring. When everything around us seems to be crumbling and tumbling down, the unicorn gives us hope and reminds us, “I’m alive I’m alive.”
Thank you very much for the morning artwork, magic and mewsic, dear friend Cathy. Have a great Monday and I’ll see you tomorrow on V-Day!
