Godsmack is an American rock band but sometimes secular song lyrics are inspirational, even to the point touching on spiritual matters. Their song, Under the Scars says that just to me. We are saved under Christ’s scars from His hands and feet where the spikes were driven to hang Him on the cross to die, and where the solider pierced His side with a sword. We are under our scars, imperfect and often feelings of little to no self-worth but Jesus accepts us just the way we are the moment we surrender our lives to Him.
In spite of everything that we’ve been through
Oh and you say black and I say white
It’s not about who’s wrong
As long as it feels right
Don’t think those stars won’t align
You’re like a shooting star in the rain
You’re everything that feels like home to me, yeah
Under your scars, I could live inside you time after time
If you’d only let me live inside of mine
Live inside of mine
Right beside me
So I could watch you sleep
Hold your body closer, breathe you deep
And everything feels broken
When you’re not next to me
Would you still be you
If we weren’t we
You’re like a shooting star in the rain
You’re everything that feels like home to me, yeah
Under your scars, I could live inside you time after time
If you’d only let me live inside of mine
If you feel like coming around
Just call my name out loud, na, na, na
Hey, if you feel like coming down
If you feel like coming around
Just call my name out loud, na, na, na, yeah
You’re like a shooting star in the rain
You’re everything that feels like home to me, yeah
Under your scars, I could live inside you time after time
If you’d only let me live inside of mine
Live inside of mine
Jesus loved us so much that He gave His all on Calvary. Death didn’t defeat Him and the grave couldn’t hold Him. He desires for each us to spend eternity with Him in heaven. Please, don’t let your shortcomings keep you from kneeling before Christ. We all fail short when you think about it. I encourage you to not let another day slip away without Jesus in your life.
In James 4:14, we are reminded that tomorrow is not promised and basically we shouldn’t put off what we can do today. If you’re looking for an everlasting love, one that sees past all of your faults, then you will find just that in Jesus.

Ramona,
I hope you’ll join me on the dance floor. 😉 Thanks for stopping by visit.
As a “back in the day” fan of Led Zepplin, Steppenwolf, Crosby/Stills/Nash, and Jefferson Airplane, there was a time when I would probably owned several Godsmack albums. I like this music and yes, sometimes there is an inspirational message hidden in the secular lyrics.
We can rest assured that we are special. God created us and the creator doesn’t create junk. Ephesians 2:10 tells us that we are His workmanship, created in Christ for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. When God created us, He created a plan for our lives and gave us the choice to follow that plan.
Driller,
I love your scripture reference reminding us all that we are God’s works of art and he doesn’t create a junk. It’s so easy to feel worthless or that we simply do not measure up to the next gal/guy but each of us are unique and beautiful in our special way – God’s way. It’s up to us to see this beauty and let it shine forth for God’s glory. 🙂
I’ve heard the name to but I don’t think I’ve heard anything by them, pretty good!
I enjoy a number of Godsmack songs. They tend more to the harder side of the rock spectrum, so this immediately intrugued me. I had never heard this song – although I know a couple of the other songs on this particular album.
Alana,
Godsmack I know by name. Perhaps from someone on the 4M dance floor. They certainly are a heavier sound than my normal mewsic choice but it’s interesting to change things up especially when a song catches my fancy as this one did. Thanks for dropping by today. I’ll see you on the dance floor tomorrow!
