Under the Radar #BoTB showdown with some #TickleMeTuesdays giggles

This week’s #TickleMeTuesdays giggles

The idea for today’s showdown was an offering from a good cyber friend who wishes to be unnamed. I meant to get this scheduled long before now but with every thing that’s happened this year then it sort of slipped my mind.  I don’t know what jiggled my memory but it got jiggled.

My battle is two different songs made famous by The Mamas and The Papas.  I think I can say with a certain degree of confidence that everyone who stops in knows these super classic hits.  Both groups are unknown artists to me. Alrighty, listen, tell me in comments which group gets your vote, and if you want feel free to tell me why your picks is your favorite.

First up is Foxes and Fossils singing Dedicated To The One I Love.

Next is, School of Rock Students (SRS) purforming California Dreamin’.

You’ll find more awesome battles underway at some of these blog listed below and if you’d like to be included in the fun, then contact Stephen requesting to be added to the list.

Polls close noon (EST) on 21st!

Who gets your vote Foxes and Fossils or SRS?

Next week, same time I’ll shall the results of today’s battle. Don’t forget to stop by to join my linky party where just about anything goes edition of Wild Wednesdays. Until then, have a terrific Tuesday! X💋X💋, Cathy

    1. Eugenia,

Thanks for stopping in to vote for FOXES & FOSSILS! Also, thanks for the blessings sent to Daddy. I spoke with him this morning. He sounds better but still no news on when he’ll be released. I think they are concerned about his heart. Mom said something about a cardiologist might be checking with him while he’s there.

    1. So, does this mean you’re going with SRS? I’m presuming so and have recorded your vote for them. Please correct me if I’m wrong. 😉 Thanks for joining the fun, my furriend!

  1. CAThy ~

I’ve always loved The Mamas & The Papas. The Beach Boys, The 5th Dimension, Spanky & Our Gang, Sergio Mendes & Brasil 66, The Mamas & Papas – I will always dig those classic harmonizing group vocal artists! They produced some of my all-time favorite music!

I like BOTH of these M&P songs. When I saw which songs were included, I figured I would be voting for School Of Rock Students simply because I like ‘California Dreamin” a bit better’n I do the song ‘Dedicated To The One I Love’.

But, I found in listening to each recording that I actually preferred the voices of FOXES AND FOSSILS. To my ears, there was something a tad “off” or just slightly “grating” with the SRS vocals.

Pretty close call, though. I actually listened to both songs twice each, just to be sure. So, great match-up, and thanks to your anonymous friend for suggesting it!!

STMcC Presents BATTLE OF THE BANDS

      1. Stephen,

Thanks I appreciate your prayers for Daddy. I probably will call him to today to see how he’s doing. I stopped by your other blog yesterday but I just realized I forgot to leave my footprints in comments. smack forehead I need to get back over there to take care of that.

    1. Stephen,

The Mamaws & Papaws are a fabulous. That’s one thing I love about bands from years ago, they really knew how to harmonize. This is gonna be a run away victory for FOXES & FOSSILS it appears. There’s always time for things to change but I seriously doubt that it will. Thanks for stopping by, my friend!

  2. I am casting a vote for Foxes and Fossils here. Look how close we came to posting on Monday Monday…
This is quite a spirited contest, Cathy.

    1. Myke,

Believe it or not, I came close to putting my BoTB on Monday Monday but decided to keep to the scheduled date since I’m trying to get back into a normal blogging routine. Thanks for voting for FOXES & FOSSILS. Have a great day!

  3. Hey Cathy, how are you doing? I am writing this as I am going to work, so I have to keep it short but my vote to Foxes and Fossils. Sorry for the double posting, my phone is weird. But I love their cover and harmonies. I also love the trade off from male and female vocals.

    1. Amy,

I notice your comment split, so I added the second part to your first. I hope you don’t mind. 😉 Thanks for taking time out of your work schedule to vote for FOXES & FOSSILS. Have a bandtastic day, my dear!

  4. Hi Cathy!

I liked them both, but I think Foxes & Fossils seemed to do a slightly better job. Hope you are having a great day!

    1. Mary,

Yesterday was a good day. I’m finally getting back into using my elliptical machine again after months of being lazy. That’s not exactly accurate. I did stop using it because of my neck issues but then it improved and after seeing the neurologist I decided once I begin it that I wouldn’t use the moving arms to see if that keeps from spiking the pain in my neck, back, and legs. Sure enough that seems to be working for now. We’ll see if I continue to have good success. Thanks for casting your vote for FOXES & FOSSILS, my friend!

  5. Mamas and Papas win for both songs, but, alas, they are not in the running.

This leaves with a difficult choice. I like the song “California Dreaming” best. But the name Foxes and Fossils is downright clever.

So based on performance I’m going with Foxes and Fossils. A bit more going for them in the performance I think.

    1. Lee,

Yeah, what a bummer the M&Ps aren’t contenders. They would win every time, right? But F&F are bowling over SRS in this showdown. Thanks for joining me in the mewsic fun, my friend!

  6. Both are tremendous performances, but I’m giving this to Foxes & Fossils because the young woman in the white shirt has an outstanding voice.

  7. I have to give it to the Foxes and the Fossils who sounded more professional and her voice is excellent. I love that last cartoon which is so right on right now. I read that your dad is not doing well. I hope he will let the doctors treat him. I find some people, mainly men, are reluctant out of fear but they would never admit to that.

  8. I agree, both tunes are really good but I did like California Dreamin’ a wee bit more. Oh, the can opener is very popular here.

  9. That can opener just might work. I laughed out loud.

Battle of the Bands is a tough one today. They are both so good that I think it came down to which song I liked the best. So having said that my vote goes to Foxes and Fossils – Dedicated To The One I Love.

Hope your dad is okay. I didn’t know he fell. He’s in my prayers.

Thank you for joining the Happy Tuesday Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous Happy Tuesday. Love and hugs. ♥

    1. Sandee,

Last night Mom said the doctor told her that Daddy seemed to be doing a little better. Thanks for your concerns.

FOXES AND FOSSILS gets another vote!

  10. Wow, these are both fabulous! In fact, i was having a tough time justifying my choice to myself, and then i read Thomas Anderson’s comment. He put into words what i felt but couldn’t say.

My vote goes to Foxes and Fossils, thanks for the funnies, and i am still praying for your Dad.

  11. Hi, Cathy!

Happy Tickle Me Tuesday & Mid Month BOTB Day, dear friend!

First, how is your daddy doing? I’ve been thinking about him since yesterday when you told us about his fall. I am rooting for him to stay strong, pull through and return home. Keep us posted.

As it happens I am familiar with both bands in today’s battle. In fact, I already had the Foxes & Fossils’ cover of “Dedicated To The One I Love” plugged into the draft of an upcoming post on my own blog. I am very impressed with this band of family & friends from Georgia featuring the occasional lead vocals of Chase Truran. Chase has her own YouTube channel where she covers the Mama Cass hit “Dream A Little Dream Of Me.” The School of Rock Students cover a different Mamas & Papas hit in this challenge and do it quite capably, making my voting decision very difficult. In the final analysis I believe the edge goes to Foxes & Fossils because the harmonies between young women and older men are glorious and convey the innocence of the M&P recording which was a cover of an earlier hit by the classic girl group The Shirelles which was also a cover of a version originally waxed by the Carolina R&B group The “5” Royales. The SRS band brings more 21st century sensibilities to their cover of “California Dreamin'”. There’s nothing wrong with that but, being a boomer age purist, I again prefer the innocent 60s’ folk-rock style of the M&P original and found it a bit jarring to hear to the SRS lead singer’s less innocent modern interpretation. Therefore, in a tough decision, I give my vote to the Atlanta area group Foxes & Fossils.

Again, please remember that I am thinking about your father and hoping for the best, dear friend Cathy.

    1. Tom,

I spoke with Mom late yesterday afternoon. She said all the tests the doctor ordered came back normal except he found a spot on his lungs. This is something he already knows about and he wouldn’t let another doctor go any further with that. He thinks it’s just coal dust but one can’t be 100% sure unless a biopsy is done. I’m not sure why he’s so reluctant. He’s very hard headed. Thanks for asking and for continuing with the prayers.

That’s cool that you’re family with both of these new-to-me bands. I’ll mark you down for FOXES AND FOSSILS in this showdown. It’ll be fun to see how this battle goes.
