Twinkies, Google +, Strange Facts, & Software Give-Away

My son often times says, “Only Twinkies and Cockroaches will survive a nuclear holocaust”. Did you know this little known fact about them once upon a time being filled with banana cream? It was news to me!

I panicked a bit when I heard the GFC widget is expiring in 2012. Bloggers are looking for another alternative to keep track of their existing blog followers.  I didn’t want to loss a single friend, either.

Falling into rank, I joined Google+. I’m a bit clueless on all the hows and whys of this Google product, but I do have a profile set up.   Don’t you think Google + is a look-alike to Facebook?

Despite my worries, I soon learned GFC will only disappear on non-blogger websites.  Ah, I can breathe a little better.  The good news is, I still have a Google + Page, and if you want to connect with me there, then it’s available.

Here’s an interesting fact. Did you know, if you yelled for 8 years, 7 months and 6 days, you would have produced enough sound energy to heat one cup of coffee?

I guess, we’ll have to skip that second cup of coffee this morning, girls.

Don’t you just dig this picture? The dress I’m wearing, I made in Home Economics class.

One of my favorite things about Home Ec was the cooking contest.  One year, my best friend, Zella, made Chocolate Covered Cherries.  Her confection making impressed me. She even got a ribbon for her tasty candies, but I never got her recipe.

Years later, a friend from church shared her recipe. I’ve made them ever since 1990. Would you like my recipe? Here’s my link: Home-made Chocolate Covered Cherries.

You wanna some more random? I have another weird fact for you.

If you fart break wind consistently for 6 years and 9 months, enough gas is produced to create the energy of an atomic bomb.
Tip: Watch about fixing too many beans for supper.

  1. I had no idea twinkies used to have banana filling – I’m with Brenda, I’d probably be eating them if they still had banana filling! 🙂

I’m bummed about GFC going away for those of us no longer on Blogger. After 2+ years of building followers, I have to start over. And I’m not too sure how keen I am over the whole Google+ thing, but I’m on there.

I wish they still had Home-Ec! That was one of my favorite classes. You did an awesome job on that dress! 🙂

Those are the same candies I make – the cherries are my favorite. I soak the cherries in Kahlua and Brandy and Cognac (not simultaneously, mind you) to give them something ‘extra’. I do make the plain ones so everyone’s happy. 🙂

  2. Forget the atomic bomb! I would NOT want to be sitting next to the person who could produce enough gas to produce one! YIKES! 😀

I love that dress! Do you still have it? That style is back, you know.

I saw your add on Google+. I’m rarely on there, just to promote my blog posts. However, I did add an app that allows my Twitter and FB to stream on my Google+ home page. It’s pretty cool.

  3. If they kept the banana cream in the middle of the twinkies I might still eat them! LOL
I loved home ec and wish they still taught it….ah..just another one of those things that went away with the wind . . . . .

  4. @Self Sagacity…I am the shortest one in the group on your left wearing that crazy scarf around my neck. That must have been the in-thingy.

  5. Are you on the right or the left? Looks like the left looks more like you from what I saw on the profile picture, but on the list you’re on the right. Well very precious memories. 🙂

  6. I had heard about the banana cream filling in Twinkies. It was a way to use the cake year round instead of just for strawberries.
