Thursday Art Date Christmas edition prompt Full Cold Moon

I’m going to give you one more Christmasy sketch to round things out for the month and the year. Rain’s art prompt is Full Cold Moon.  We couldn’t see the moon last week but if we had then this would be the scene I imagine we might see, Santa and his sleigh crossing a full cold moon on Christmas eve.

Thanks for stopping in with your morning coffee for a peek at my latest illustration and …oh yeah, thanks for not spilling it on my artwork. 😉 I’m heading over to Rain’s Garden to browse through the gallery of artistry and you’re welcome to follow along!

Join me tomorrow for my first edition of Battle of the Bands in 2021 along with some new year giggles! X💋X💋, Cathy

Captured Monday night with Big Girl Camera (Nikon D7000). The moon isn’t quite full but it’s a clear evening and I didn’t want to pass the opportunity because I know I won’t be outdoors tonight. I’m pretty sure it’ll be cloudy with rain in our forecast. Click to enlarge image.

  1. Andrea,

We’re all looking forward to 2021 being better than last year. Everything is in God’s hands but let’s keep those prayers going. He likes it when we talk to him in good times and bad. Perhaps this will get people in the habit again to talk with the Lord regularly again. Thanks for visiting, my dear.

  2. Santa and a Cold Moon and a White Christmas … just what we all love. Your art work is always so beautifully done and now you are a photographer as well.
I did click to enlarge and the detail of the moon was surprising. Nice job. Hope you have a wonderful start to the new year … I pray that 2021 brings relief and happiness. I can’t say I am sorry to see 2020 come to an end. Happy New Year, Cathy. I look forward to sharing Rain’s Art Thursday with you throughout this year. Stay safe and be well …

  3. Happy New Year Cathy! 🙂 I love your Moon sketch! It’s so warm and happy for a cold scene! :)) Great capture of the Moon too! I tried to photograph it, but it’s been raining here so the skies were overcast. I saw it this morning as it was setting though, maybe I’ll have a chance later tonight to catch it before it starts to wane!!

To answer your cinnamon roll question…firstly when you use milk in anything, it’s always more moist. Water is used to crispen-up a lot of things you bake, so I would think that using milk could make your baked dish less dry. I’m not sure about the egg. But…I have a FABULOUS recipe that I’ve made and the buns turn out amazingly moist: http://www.rainfrances.com/p/cinnamon-buns.html
I use water to proof the yeast, but there is also milk in the recipe. I don’t use an egg wash either before baking. Actually, I think I’m going to make these today, I have a craving now lol!

    1. Rain,

Thanks for replying to my questions regarding baking. Did you make a batch a cinnamon rolls? I can’t wait to try making more cinnamon rolls! Thanks for dropping by to check out my artwork this week, my friend.

  4. Now that is the perfect moon art to end this year. I am wishing you the very best for 2021 and hope that what ever it is you want will come to you. Happy New Year my friend.

    1. Nicole,

I enjoyed sketching Santa flying across a full moon. I’ve wanted to this for a few years. I’m thankful that Rain pushes me to do more.

  5. The sketch is beautiful, Cathy. You’re so talented.

  6. Hi, Cathy!

Happy Thankful Thursday Art Date With Rain, dear friend!

I’m joining you one last time in 2020, and I’m glad I didn’t miss your stunning artwork depicting Santa and his reindeer-driven sleigh crossing a huge full cold moon shining down upon a snow covered rural landscape. I read the Farmer’s Almanac states that Native Americans named the December full moon “full cold moon” because it’s the time of year when the cold weather really sets in for the season. Blue and green are my favorite colors, and I love the shades used in your holiday sketch. They convey a sense of the winter cold.

I am also happy that I didn’t miss the indie sounds of London-based singer/songwriter Juliette Jackson and her all-female band The Big Moon. I thoroughly enjoyed “Happy New Year,” a song from the band’s 2017 debut album Love in the 4th Dimension.

Well, here we are at the end of another year, Cathy. I’m sure if we checked back to the first post of 2020, we’d find ourselves agreeing that the year will surely whiz by as they all seem to do. Little did we know the massive hardships that 2020 would bring. I pray that you and your family stay safe and healthy throughout 2021.

Thank you again for being such a devoted friend over the past twelve month period. I look forward to casting my vote in your band battle tomorrow. (Maybe I’ll be the one to save a shut-out again! 🙂

God bless and Happy New Year, dear friend Cathy!

  7. I really enjoyed your scene with Santa over the full moon. Lovely way you created that. And I DID enlarge and enjoyed seeing the moon you captured last week. I so enjoyed this post. I hope you have a safe, healthy, joyous new year, dear Cathy.

    1. Elizabeth,

I’m happy you enjoyed the art and photo. I snapped that photo with a little evening light still left and dropped the exposure. I wish I had used my 300mm lens, though. I’m happy for that it turned out nice.

  8. Beautiful Art from moon!
I wish you and your family a happy and healthy 2021.
Take care of yourself. hug Elke
