The Year 2010

On this day in history, Albert Einstein was born in 1879. A few months ago, we watched a cute movie with Meg Ryan, Tim Robbins, and Walter Matthau called, I.Q. which is a romantic comedy loosely based on the genius’ niece played by Ryan. Check out the trailer!

John F. Kennedy once said, “History is a relentless master. It has no present, only the past rushing into the future. To try to hold fast is to be swept aside.”

While this certainly is true, I find looking back evokes may wonderful and not-so-wonderful emotions. That’s why I enjoy co-hosting Wayback Wednesday with Angela from Mommy Time Out.
Today, we welcome you 2010!

Big Changes.

The year began a bit rocky. DH was asked, along with several other employees, to take a mandatory leave of absence for a week in mid to late February. The company suffered from financial hardships due to lack of contracts putting a squeeze on Corporate. The result, job cuts by March 1 leaving DH and others unemployed.

Mixed blessings.

The sting of losing any job is never absent, completely. Even when you fear the worse and expect the shoe to drop hard. Oddly, we felt at peace. We had no hard feelings. His former employer was always good to him. That job had been an enormous gift from God. We were grateful! We looked to the future with the hope of better things and trusted in the One who gives us all things.

When a door closes, God opens a window.

We prepared ourselves for a difficult road, especially after our previous lost job experience (1997-2000) which felt like an eternity. Despite the upset of one job ending, God provided an immediate opening for DH in town.  To say how we felt would be understated when DH got the offer but thrilled comes close. You see, from 2000-2010 he worked two hours (one-direction) out-of-town and made this commute, daily. For us, we felt like the Mother Load had come in. God is so amazing!!!

The rest of 2010 was spent in total bliss. Nothing else seemed to matter. We simply enjoyed living in this place we love so much while soaking up a time forgotten. It’s something how the simplest things get taken for granted like a job in town until it’s gone.  Don’t get me wrong, his previous employment was a true God send. DH spent a decade making a long daily commute and we lost the leisure of a local job with its amenities.

Present.

“Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift of God, which is why we call it the present.” ― Bil Keane To this day, our gratitude for my DH’s job is immensely felt and we can’t let a day slip by without thanking God for these blessings.  Life is good!

Now, it’s time to look at others’ 2010 flashbacks on Wayback Wednesday. Create your own 2010 post, link up, and have some fun. It’s that easy! Wanna a return following or visit? Then, leave us a comment and we’ll do the favor in like kind.

  1. Life is often like that. We don’t know why the door is closing and feel the pain of its slam. And then! Something so much better appears!–the gift prepared for us in advance.
