The World Is Not Enough BoTB Showdown

In the 19th James Bond spy thriller, Garbage performed the movie theme song, The World Is Not Enough.  Usually, I place two cover artists against each other and ask for you to pick your favorite rendition but today I’m using three different male vocalists.  You don’t have to know anything about James Bond, the movie series, music, nothing!  If you have ears to hear and an opinion then this is for you.  Welcome to Battle of the Bands!

Contender #1 Peter Jöback

Contender #2 Loon Park

Contender #3 Neranature

I invite you to visit BoTBers with showdowns going on today.

*Unless noted, all other participants will present two battles per month on the 1st & 15th

Which artist is the best, Peter Jöback, Loon Park or Neranature? Leave your vote in comments!

Polls close noon (EST) on Jul 7!

I’ll be back a week from today to announce the winner in this round. Mark your calendar to return to see if your pick wins in this showdown. Up next you’ll find me boogieing with the Monday’s Music Moves Me crew. The theme is freedom of music choice which means whatever music moves you! You’re welcome to hit the dance floor so come join the party!

  1. Hi Cathy, Hope I got here in time! This is a good Bond song and my choice would be Neranature. Love the vocals and I think it has the best 007 vibe. Cheers!

    1. Debbie,

Yeah, you made it in plenty of time. I’ll put the results up tomorrow. I’m struggling to keep up with what little I’m doing with my blog this summer. I can do is try to hold on with the hopes things will ease up later in the fall. cross fingers I put your vote down for NeraNature. Thanks for popping by to play!

    1. John,

I’m glad to see our vote for Loon Park. I always feel bad when a contender isn’t voted on but it is a battle and not all voices/styles are suited for every ear. 🙂

  2. I’m all set up for Robin’s 30th birthday these. My year is 1981. Brought back some wonderful memories. Love and hugs. ♥

  3. This time my hubby listened to all 3 with me. We both vote for Peter.. #1. His voice is a bit nasally but this rendition was much better than the 2nd one where my hubby said “ the world is not enough but this version is enough already for me.” The last one, she has a good voice but that cat screeching moments were chaotic background bull hooey as my hubby has just said. Well, he used Bull @$#*@. So #1 get the vote

    1. Birgit,

I messed things up by throwing the chick in as contender #3. I could’ve sworn that was a man singing when I decided on this cover but my hearing isn’t the best sometimes even when listening through headphones. sigh Anywho, I surely appreciated you and hubs getting in on the action with a double vote for Peter Jöback!

  4. HiYa, CAThy! It’s This Me.

You caught me by surprise with this Bond Battle. I came here expecting to find a Battle between the Rocky movie series theme songs. ;^D

I have not seen this Bond movie, neither shaken or stirred. Nor have I heard this song before, so I am coming in with fresh, untrained and untainted ears.

This definitely had that trademarked (TM) Bond theme song sound to it. Of the three, I preferred the rendition by Peter Jöback. I’ve never heard of him before, but that bloke can definitely sing!

Get you a safe, happy & healthy Fourth of July, my friend!

    1. Stephen,

I’m riding out the James Bond Theme Song series until early next year. The later films have me stumped for the most part and it’s difficult to find good covers. I’m committed to seeing this through to the end, though. I appreciate you stopping by to vote for Peter Jöback, my friend!

  5. Three interesting choices that are rather different. Can’t recall hearing this song before. I’m really off on my Bond knowledge I guess.

The last one did not sound much like a male singer, but these days who knows. The second version sounds like what one might expect from an album of Bond covers.

Maybe it was partially because of the live performance, but the first one came across as more unique and interesting to me.

Give my vote to Peter Joback.

    1. Lee,

After Daniel Craig became 007, we lost interest in the spy thriller movies. The producer, writers, …. have screwed up James Bond’s image and removed all the fun. sigh

Neranature was a bit difficult to tell if it was a male vocalist. I had to listen and listen and listen again before I felt certain but after all these months to hear them again I’m left shaking my head on them. It’s very possible that I goofed on this entry.

I’ll log your vote for Peter Jöback>/b>. Thanks, my friend!

  6. My vote goes to Peter Jöback. Beautiful and with such feeling.

Have a fabulous day and weekend, Cathy. Love and hugs. ♥

  7. Hi, Cathy!

Happy July 2022 and merry Christmas to you, dear friend! (It’ll be here before you know it.) I hope you are in good health and in good spirits.

I am here to check out your first of the month band battle, featuring a song I am hearing for the first time, the theme of the 19th 007 spy thriller which I have not seen. I first listened to the original track by Garbage and got into it as it progressed. Next, I turned to your three band battlers.

The version by contestant #2, Loon Park, struck me as unnecessarily creepy. The vocal was singsongy and therefore somewhat aggravating.

Entry #3 is a recording by NeraNature, which I read is a side-project band started by two members of the Polish metal band Darzamat. As much as I love metal, I didn’t have a positive reaction to the heavy, wall-of-sound arrangement on their version of this 007 song. The noticeable foreign accent also bothered me. Their rendition is simply not what my ears listen for in a Bond theme.

That leaves the version by contestant #1, Swedish singer Peter Jöback. In a fine live performance, Peter and his band delivered the authentic sound of a Bond theme. The brassy arrangement was ideal for the song. Peter’s vocal was rich and pure, powerful but not overwrought. His diction was perfect and the slight accent did not bother me. The passion he brought forth upheld the tradition of great Bond songs. I had an easy time voting for act #1 Peter Jöback.

If you are posting your 4M feature on Sunday, I’ll see you then. A shout-out to my good buddy Foghorn Leghorn and hugs & kisses to you as well, dear friend Cathy. Have a safe and happy holiday weekend!

    1. Tom,

You’re right Christmas will be here before we can shake our fist the hands of time speeding past us unnoticed. I’m happy to report we’re in good health and spirits.

By the time my posts publish I have to refresh my memory by listening to the contenders again.

Like you, Peter Jöback powerful vocal performance grabbed my attention. I knew instantly I wanted him in this battle. He does have the authenticity to use in the opening of a James Bond film. Thanks for being apart of the voting process in this battle, my friend!
