The angle of a line

Hello!  How are you doing today?  Me, I’m doing great.  I can’t complain except for the rain but earth is coming alive again and our world needs the water so when the sun comes out again more of everything will POP!

Rain’s art theme today is diagonal.  That’s a tough one but after going through my old sketches I came up with some that works and then I created a new one.

The year I launched my art passions for the 2017 A2Z challenge, a pencil sketch for letter ‘F’ – fox, fence, frog. The fence post have diagonal cuts.
Procreate A2Z 2018 ‘Books’ illustration. More diagonal lines with the angled stack of books.
Pencil sketch shipwreck from 2019 Little Mermaid art sketch series for the A2Z challenge. The wrecked ship lays on the ocean floor at an angle forming diagonal lines.
Last year, Rain’s ‘Descent’ prompt I immediately thought of the vintage pinup girl sliding down a banister, clearly works well for today’s ‘diagonal’ theme.
In Procreate I designed a switch back staircase for today’s diagonal theme.

You can’t get away from a line taking an angle.  I’m not sure how Rain comes up with such creative ideas for her art date weekly themes but she rocks!  I look for opportunities to use word prompts a new song or one that’s even a good fit. The closest I come with diagonal is line and so I came upon Poets of the Fall with Where Do We Draw the Line

This week’s Thankful Thursday I’m thankful for signs of spring.  We were out over the weekend.  In our area I spied  cherry daffodils,  pink tree blossoms, flowering magnolia trees, and forsythias.  The joys of the earth in visual form fills my soul with goodness.  I’m thankful to have completed 8 of my 26 sketches and am having lots of fun drawing.  I’m very thankful to have this pastime in my life because art gives me purpose.  I love the sense of accomplishment with each illustration I create.

Because it’s almost spring and I’m busy doing what I love, draw, I feel I’m On Top of the World (Imagine Dragons).

I’m winding things up today with Kat’s Writing Workshop. Today, I’m going to share with you what we would do if we were forced out of our house and what we would look for in our next place.

Sometimes I wish we were in a situation were we had to move into a new place like yesterday but I know that wouldn’t be fun and it could result in bad decisions.  I’m going to run with this prompt because I really do hope we can move in a new house before this year ends.

What would we look for in our next place? At a bare minimum we need a place slightly bigger than our current home with four bedrooms, three full baths, and a 2-car garage on half an acre or more.  A single level with a basement or attic or both for additional storage is ideal for our next home.  The floor plan doesn’t have to be fancy.  In fact, I prefer a simple layout.  No carpet, real hardwood or engineered hardwood is the way to go.  We are allergy sufferers so this would be a great improvement I think of our overall health.  We’d look for a place that is relatively low maintenance – all brick exterior for instance with little or no painting needed.  We’d love to have a screened in porch or sun room to enjoy time entertaining family and friends on.    Let’s not forget a level lot.  No hilly driveway and plenty of space to park multiple cars.  It’s such a nightmare for us now.   There’s no reason to expect that we’d ever be forced from this home since the mortgage is clear but relocation because of work is another story and one we’ve had to deal with in the past.  Although, we’re more open to that sort of change now, our heart and roots are deeply tied to east Tennessee.  Rocky Top (Dolly Parton) you’ll always be home sweet home! 😉 And, it’s the perfect Throwback Thursday tune to share with Mary at JingleJangleJungle.

I’m heading over to Rain’s Garden to browse through the gallery of artistry.  You’re welcome to follow along.  Have a doodletastic day Come join the fun!

  1. I really like the house you’re describing! I’ve always loved the look of brick and would love to have a spacious rambler with additional storage. Maybe I can be your neighbor!

  2. Hi Cathy 🙂 I LOVE “Fox, Fence, Frog”!!! I love your pinup girl sliding down the banister too, I really love your pinup girls Cathy, they’re fabulous! Your stairs are beautiful, I love the detail in the grass. Great art work! 🙂 Oh Dolly is gorgeous and so much fun to watch and listen to! 🙂 Thanks for the video!

    1. Rain,

Procreate allows me to create fine details with various brushes. Sometimes I sketch blades of grass but the app has a few built in grass brushes that work nicely and this allows me to see what I want to create. It actually helps me to do this sort of thing free-hand another time. Thanks for joining me, my dear. Have a good day.

  3. Your sketches are wonderful, Cathy. As I looked over each one, I reminded myself to get back into my art work at some point. Of course, it’s always all about time, at least for me, and locking myself away from the daily commotion in my life.

I do hope that an opportunity happens for you to make a move to a new home, of course, as long as the important elements are all in place for you. You know, it might just take place at the right moment and you’ll know if it’s a good fit for you. Somehow, we do manage to learn from those bad decisions, now and then but, there are times you just need to spit into the wind and go for it!

    Stay safe!

    1. Patty,

Getting back to what you love takes a clear mindset or in my case, I forced myself to take the plunge because I knew I’d keep putting it off. I’m glad I handled it the way I did. Thanks, I hope we find the home we’re looking for soon. It would solve a lot of our problems. Thanks for dropping!

  4. I am so happy you are appreciating the signs of spring. So am I, though in my case they’re mostly audible signs (birdsong, etc.).

I really hope you’ll find your dream home soon.

    1. I usually don’t hear the birds singing outside my window. DH does but my hearing isn’t very good. I do enjoy hearing their little sweet song when I’m outside, though. Thanks for visiting.

  5. Wow! What an excellent collection of sketches, Cathy! I hope you find the perfect home for you and DH! We don’t like carpet either but since we are in an apartment, we can’t change the flooring. Thank you so much for the plug, girlfriend! I appreciate you! ❤️😘

    1. Eugenia,

Can’t you get an apartment with no carpet? It’s too much trouble and expense for us to take ours up with us wanting to move, so we’ll just ride this out a little longer. You’re welcome. I’m happy to tell others about your weekly poetry connection. 🙂 Thanks for dropping in for a visit, my dear!

      1. Hi Cathy! We probably could if we moved, but not wanting to move just because of the carpet. We have our own shampooer, which helps a lot. The carpet was not the best when we moved in but we liked everything else about the apartment. You don’t find many 2 bedroom, 2 bath apartments with a fireplace, pantry, walk-in closets and a balcony for under $2000.00 in this area. Plus, it is a gated community. Like you, we’ll wait it out until the right place comes along. Thanks again for the plug about my blog and always love your refreshing blog. 😘

  6. You really nailed the the diagonal theme this week, Cathy. You created some absolutely stunning beauties. I especially love how well you understood the theme and how beautiful each of your drawings turned out. Great job, even if I’m a bit late visiting, dear.

    1. Elizabeth,

Rain does a fabulous job challenging us. I’m happy I had a number of illustrations already share with the A2Z Challenging breathing on my neck. I appreciate your visit and sweet comment, my dear!

  7. Funny you should mention the concept of moving today. My wife and I have been in discussion about this of late. The house you’ve described sounds like what I would look for. My preference is one back East while my wife wants to remain in California. Not sure what the outcome will be, but this morning we decided to start looking into putting our current house on the market this year and deciding what to do if we sell. I don’t think we’ll have much problem selling if we choose to do so. Now the house selling market is pretty good.

    1. Lee,

There are plenty of ranch style homes in our area but finding one situated on a level plot is another story. I swear every house in town that we look at is on slope. We’re tired of an irregular yard and a steep drive, so we know that’s not what we want with our next place. If your wife has lived in California or out west all of her life then it’ll be a bit of a culture shock for her in the east especially if you settle into a rural area like what calls to you. Small town living is quaint but it’s not for everyone. I hope the best for you all in whatever you decide. This is a good time to sell, though. Houses in our area go fast!

    1. Mary,

It’s always great fun to incorporate good music in with my daily content. I thought your meme was perfect addition to the time slot, my friend. 😉

  8. We got rid of all our carpet years ago, mostly because of the cats (due to fleas and “accidents”) and have a combination of vinyl and laminate. Easy to clean and like you said, a whole lot easier on the allergies.

There are a number of homes around our suburb that are brick ranches. I think I should have held out for one, in retrospect.

    1. John,

That’s a good idea to get rid of carpet with pets. I heard it’s a nightmare with pets. Have you considered selling your home to get move into a rancher? I love the idea of stairs but I’m going in and out of our bedroom so frequently that it climbing stairs would get old eventually and then there’s the worry of us when we’re older. Climbing steps when you’re elderly is tricky, scary. I saw that with my late FIL.

        1. John,

I understand when you like where you are and that’s good. At least you have the option of a chair lift when or if the time comes you need one. I will go check the link you shared with me. Thanks!

  9. I love your sketches. So fun. I’m looking forward to your A to Z Challenge next month.

I hope you find the perfect home and get to move this year. Got my fingers and toes crossed for you.

On Top of the World is a wonderful place to be. I’m there a lot and I’ll be on the lookout for you.

Have a fabulous Thankful Thursday, Cathy. Love and hugs. ♥

    1. Thanks, Sandee! I’m getting more excited about the A to Z Challenge but working on my sketches always fuels it. I have my fingers and toes crossed, too. It’s so frustrating to know what you want and yet it seems like a unicorn but I’m confident we’ll find that unicorn eventually or perhaps find a piece of land that we like to build our own unicorn. 😀

  10. Those sketches are all really nice, love the staircase too. Hooray for Spring and Blooming Season and thanks for joining our Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!

  11. These are great and beautiful drawings that you made on Rain’s theme. Great videos.
Have a good week greeting Elke

    1. Laurie,

Thank you! Many of my sketches others have seen and others haven’t but I felt it was a good representation of Rain’s prompt, too. Thanks for visiting, dearie!
