Thankful for the basics & more

Welcome to Monday’s Mewsic Moves Me on Sunday!

Before I get started today, I have a special announcement. Today, DH’s oldest brother turns 70 and no doubt he’ll never see this or at least I don’t think he will but even so, my sentiments are the same, I just to say, I hope you have a swell day ahead of you.  Turning to the billboard charts on this day in history, here’s the #1 song (Sept. 25 – Nov. 19) your mother might have heard on the radio the week you were born, That Lucky Old Sun (Frankie Laine), but having shared that one a few years ago, I decided to use the chart-topper prior (Aug. 28 – Sept. 24) to this by Vic Damone, You’re Breaking My Heart, which no doubt my late MIL listened to in 1949, too.

🎶Happy Birthday, dear BIL#1🎶

This is a party within a party, is it not?  Okay, this week’s theme is your choice song picks which means anything goes! Today, I’m showing my gratitude through mewsic with I’m thankful for the basics and more song selections.

I complain more than I should about Our House (Crosby, Stills, & Nash) but I really do appreciate these four walls because it Feels Like Home (Chantal Kreviazuk). I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, I thankful for DH’s employer.  They are not only good people to work for but they pay him a nice wage giving us the Money  (Barrett Strong) to pay for the Sweet Ride (Dusty Springfield) we bought last November and other monthly obligations or the occasional sweet indulgence like a pretty  Short Skirt/Long Jacket (Cake) or for my favorite fetish like these *pointing to feet*  Boogie Shoes (K.C. and the Sunshine Band). Do you have your boogie shoes on if you said YES, then click play and dance with me!

Please readthis is a mewsic linky party, which means all participates are sharing songs that one can listen to from YouTube or Vimeo and a not a post about mewsic or mewsicians.  Failure to meet this basic guideline puts your URL in danger of being removed or labeled – NO MUSIC.

It’s now time to join the 4M dance party!

ATTENTION!!! Would you like to be an honorary co-host? If so, shoot me an email or leave me a comment saying ‘YES, sign me up!’ and I’ll secure the next available month for you then send you the details. 😉

It’s the week before Thanksgiving and I’m doing a lot of shaking in my house with a whole of shifting, stirring, clanging, and tasting. I can do without the extra tasting, though.  Is your pantry stocked and menu planned?  Not to worry, I’ll be flitting in and out of Blogosphere. I’ll boogie by to listen to and gyrate to your mewsic playset asap.  Thanks for joining me on the dance floor. Have a boogietastic week!

  1. And you know what? I am more then thankful that you came into my life. At the time that you did I was just about to give up on so many things including my blog, and then you. What better friend could I ask for. Love ya Kat… now before I start to cry… let’s get down to business. Okay, I’m confused who’s birthday is it? hmm I feel like such a putz!!! Okay, I think I have it. It’s your brother-in-law? Well, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO HIM with an ol’ hug!!! Happy Birthday to him….. Happy Birthday to him… hug!!! Okay, back to biz let’s see duh rock & roll sweetie./ Whatcha got? Oh & before I go on one of our conductors, Stacy’s sister-in-law I believe… no wait let me check./…My sister Merri is making progress day by day – I think she’ll be at the Neuro Critical Care Unit another week, then we’ll hopefully be able to relocate her to a great rehab facility closer to the family. I’m still waiting to hear about the CT scan she was supposed to have earlier today (Monday), because of that looks good, she’ll have the brain drain removed and she’ll be able to not have her left hand wrapped up to thwart her from pulling out the drain…. Now if you’d like to know more it’s on her blog. So let’s try this again… Vic Damone, girlfriend I felt like I was at my gramma’s house with my mother and the two of them are swooning on the couch. bwahahahaha They surely were a hoot those two… no, I should say three because then my Aunt Joanne would come downstairs and join them bwahahaha they were a hoot for sure. I wish I was with them again and them hollering at me for laughing at them, but then they would laugh too. hahaha.

    1. Marie,

Thanks for dancing with me and for the bday wishes to my BIL!

Yes, I noticed on Stacy’s FB that her sister suffered a stroke. I have Merri in prayer, as well as the whole family. Bless their hearts! It’s so tough.

Have a boogietastic week, my dear!

  2. That hamster has got his Spiritual focus in overdrive! What a great photo! That is one fervently-praying rodent. 😉

    1. Stephen,

All creatures show their reverence to the Almighty. It’s interesting it’s the non-humans who know beyond a shadow of a doubt who their creator is and offer praise to Him. We might not understand it but God does. Wouldn’t it be great if people gave the One true God a place in his/her life?

    1. Mimi,

Yeah, I can’t tell the difference between the two especially in a photo like this one because the camera is stuck right on its nose totally distorting everything but I think it’s a hamster. I think gerbils look more mousie-like.

  3. Pawkisses for a Happy Birthday to Mr Bill. With your choise of mewsic I’m sure he’ll have a wonderful day…and we too😸Now let’s put on our Boogie Shoes and let’s dance♪♫♪♫Aha aha I like it..all the songs♪♫♪Extra Pawkisses especially to the both of you, and don’t work to hard, hibernation is just a corner away😸🐾😽💞

    1. Thanks, Binky! I’m sure if BIL knew of this post, he’d be boogieing right along with everyone while feeling so much love from y’all. BTW, what’s hibernation? This cat doesn’t get to do that but maybe I should. lol

  4. Happy Birthday to the birthday “boy.” TW says that Vic Damone song brought her back to her parents listening to the Make Believe Ballroom on the radio when she was a tyke. You have songs representing a large time frame. TW always liked “Money” especially the Beatles version. Barrett Strong was a bit before her times. CS&N were more her time.

    1. Cathy,

I hadn’t meant to get so broad in my mewsic meaning the number of years spanning these songs, it just happened that way. Thanks for the bday wishes to my BIL. 😉

  5. Look at that little cutie pie. I’m thankful for the same things.

Thank you for joining the Awww Mondays Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous Awww Monday and week, Cathy. Big hug. ♥

    1. Joyce,

My BIL doesn’t have a social media presence, but even with that I rarely invite those in my family who I mention to my site. They know that I blog, so if they are interested then they can find out what’s going on.

    1. Yeah, cats and hamsters don’t live well together. Maybe, that’s why the little guy is giving thanks. That there isn’t a cat in the house. lol

  6. Happy Birthday to DH’s brother! I like your song choices and how you linked them together 🙂 Have a wonderful week! XO

    1. Patrick,

I’m sure you’ll figure out what to do for Thanksgiving. In more years I made our meal a little easier by cooking a Butterball turkey roast. That’s what I call it anyhow. It’s just turkey, no bones. The turkey roasts are about 3 pounds of meat. You can get all white or a mix of white & dark meats with seasonings. I put my turkey roast in a cooking bag and follow the directions. I usually add extra sage to the meat and after the turkey is done, I use the gravy packet it comes with to pour over the turkey. It’s great with keeping the turkey moist for reheating. All the other fixings take a little time but nothing too daunting. If you’re not into cooking and baking then there’s always other convenient options in your local grocery stores to make the task do-able. Eating out is a growing trend it seems for the holidays, so that’s something else you can do with your kids and significant other. Whatever your meal is that day, remember to take a moment to thank God for all of your blessings big or small. 😉

  7. That’s a great quote. I am thankful for all those who walked out of my life too! 🙂 Enjoy your boogie-tastic day Cathy! 🙂 Just the mention of Boogie Shoes got my toe tapping. That was my favourite disco song! 🙂

    1. Rain,

I hadn’t really thought about those who walked out on my life but I’m very glad the boyfriend I had before DH was one of those because had he not then I probably would’ve missed out on the greatest man in the world (to me) entering my life. Everything works out for a reason even when we don’t understand.

    1. Brian,

Thank you for the bday wishes to my BIL. We called him Saturday to wish him a good one. I feel bad for him. He’s been divorced for more than 30 years. I had hoped that he would find a wonderful new gal to share his life with but it just never happened and at this late date I doubt that it will. I could be wrong, though. Sometimes you read about people in their 90s marrying in nursing homes. 🙂

  8. Hi, Cathy!

Happy 4M Monday on Sunday, dear friend!

Happy birthday to DH’s brother! He’s only three days older than Shady Del Knight. 🙂 It was nice of you to select a song from the November 1949 Hit Parade in his honor. I certainly remember Vic Damone as one of the big names in show business in my childhood. “You’re Breaking My Heart” is typical of the recordings that filled the chart in the pre-rock ‘n’ roll years – romantic traditional pop ballads crooned by well mannered male and female artists.

I also appreciate your 4M mewsical story song set. This is my introduction to Canadian singer, songwriter and pianist Chantal Kreviazuk. She has a great voice and I like her style. Barrett Strong’s “Money” is a great recording, the first hit for Motown Records, and a song that has been covered by many other artists including The Beatles and The Kingsmen. For me, the most exciting find is “The Sweet Ride,” a song written by Lee Hazlewood and performed by Dusty Springfield as the title song of a 1968 surfer/biker exploitation film. I never even heard of it. I see that the movie stars Tony Franciosa, Michael Sarrazin, Jacqueline Bisset and Bob “Gilligan” Denver. i read that the rock band Moby Grape also contributed to the soundtrack. What a relic! Now I want to look for that movie.

I also appreciate the thought provoking meme you posted at the end. It is powerful to frame all of life’s comings and goings, gains and losses, as things working out for the best, enabling us to learn and grow from experiences good and bad.

Thank you for a very entertaining and educational post, dear friend Cathy, and have a boogietastic week!

    1. Tom,

If I did the math right, then today is your birthday, so HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR FRIEND!! Friendships lost or gained always add a new dimension to our lives. It’s absolutely true, we certainly grow from these experiences.

  9. Happy birthday to your brother-in-law. I’ll be hitting that age in a couple years and it’s rather hard to believe.

Still don’t have any Thanksgiving plans, but I’m guessing my wife and I will probably go to some nearby restaurant and have a dinner. Food is not a priority for me like it used to be.

    1. Lee,

Our birthdays creep up on us faster each passing year. I marvel over the fact that in two years I’ll be 60. It seems unreal but the longer we live the more birthdays we have, right? 🙂 It doesn’t matter what you and your wife do for Thanksgiving, as long as you’re enjoying the moment. I know it would be super nice if you all had your children nearby and that probably bothers y’all but with today’s technology, you can do video chat to bridge the distance a little. Sometimes we’ll do Facetime with our daughter in Maine. That’s always nice.
