How was your New Year’s Eve celebration? We kept to our usual traditional things pizza, snacks, and a movie marathon til the ball dropped in Time Square. By that time or shortly after, we were ready to hit the hay. The new year always fills me with optimism and after the pandemic wrecked our world for much of 2020 I’m feeling even more hopeful that 2021 will rock. I know it’s only the 4th day of the new year but I have to ask, “How is it treating you so far?”
I gave up making a list of New Year Resolutions year ago. Have you? Honestly, I was way too ambitious with my goals then when I failed to meet them then it was a huge let down and I’d beat myself up for not measuring up as I hoped. I’m done doing that! These days, I keep daily goals to aspire toward if when I reach it them I cross it off and if not, I try another day. Works well pretty well for short term things. Long term like weigh or exercise goals I figured out is more of a life change instead of doing it for a few months at the start of the new year. The way 2020 went I was benched most of the year for one reason or another, so I definitely want to work hard to get back into my fitness routine again. I’m hoping my Apple Watch will inspire me to get moving in the right direction.
Our spat of cold weather hasn’t completely let up but at least the nightly lows aren’t in the teens. I know it’s winter. This is normal but still why is it difficult for my brain to accept? It’s feel like I suddenly slammed into a wall because I didn’t see I was walking straight at it.
Every holiday season we buy a box of Russell Stover chocolates. The best thing in the assortment this year was the toffee. With DH’s dental problems he avoids biting anything hard or very chewy. RS’s toffee was the right brittleness, kind of a soft not a jaw breaking crackle. I like it like that, too. I didn’t snap any pictures but I will share the Traditional English Toffee recipe with you. The only change I made the recipe is used Ghiradelli milk chocolate melting wafers to dip my toffee in and I did not top it with almonds. It tasted better than Heath bars if I say so myself.
Today, I’m joining Tuesday 4.
1. When was the last time you tried something new? Every time I sketch something it’s new. That said, I did this Thursday’s art date illustration and if you want to see it then you’ll have to hop over back over to see what I did this Thursday. I know that’s a shameless to entice you like that but I hope it works!
2. Who in your family do you compare yourself to? I don’t compare myself to anyone except I might say I’m more like my mom or that I look a little like both parents and that’s about it.
3. What lesson in life did you learn the hard way? Gee, the list is long but I say the biggest thing is having confidence in myself. I’m thankful DH always believes in me and it’s his belief that made me see that I can do just about anything I set my mind to do. I credit him for getting me started drawing again.
4. What can you do today that you weren’t able to do before? Sketch with ease. When I first started I as was too uptight and tried too hard which resulted in a failure which caused me to delay getting back into drawing. I have the attitude to see every new project as a challenge which opens me to just about any possibility.
I’m still a bit in holiday mode, so I’m gonna grab a cup of coffee and head off to visit Sandee, Stacy, and Eugenia. That’s it for now. Please join me tomorrow on Wild Wednesdays where just about anything goes!
