The Camping Experience

Camping with the family is something I’ve always wanted to do, but we never did get around to this.  The closest we ever got to a camping experience was laying some blankets on the living floor and creating a giant tent with sheets.  The kids LOVED it!  I liked not being bothered by mosquitoes.

Sunday night’s project on The Celebrity Apprentice was to create a camping experience sponsored by Camping World.  Gary Busey headed the men and Niki Taylor led the women in this project.  Wild-man Busey had me concerned that he could actually pull this task not only off but together opposed to Niki’s calmer state of mind.

The men took a large tour bus type RV.  Most of the guys thought the RV would speak to a broader audience for a true Camping World experience from tailgating to family vacations.  Jose Canseco was the first to disagree.  Men being men, I felt their weak link would be the interior and their strengths would show up on the exterior.  With that being said, the truth revealed itself accurately.  The men excelled in showcasing Camping World from the outside of the RV.  I liked that they used large clearly visible Camping World banners attached to the side of the vehicle with plants, AstroTurf, and camping equipment mimicking a real woodsy sense.  Mark McGrath wrote a jingle for Camping World adding an extra pinch of creativity to the task. Richard Hatch thought it was too country-ish but what is camping all about? The countryside, right? Exactly!  McGrath performed the jingle for the CEO, which was a huge success.

The ladies felt a pull-behind camper trailer would feel homey.  They decorated the interior of their camper with a touch of beauty, elegance, and charm. Camping World’s CEO loved the quaint home-like environment the women created. Unfortunately, that’s where things stopped.   99% of the women’s attention and detailing was spent on the inside of the trailer.   Niki had voiced wanting an outdoorsy touch — shrubs and trees to give the clientele that backwoods feel.  However,  time fell short with Warwick and Jackson out shopping at Bed, Bath, & Beyond.   In the end, the ladies had to settle with clusters of balloons displayed outside the camper. The banners the women elected to use were practically undetected and noticeably smaller.    They made a poor decision in their placement of the Ad banners away from the camper, instead of calling it to every person’s attention visiting who the sponsor was for the setup.   Despite the women’s lack of flare on the outside, La Toya Jackson came off as a shining star with her ability to give out product info like a pro impressing Camping World’s CEO.

The bottom line is somehow despite the multiple directions the men went in, they somehow managed to pull the task together to take the win for Busey’s cause the Center for Traumatic Head Injuries. Taylor took full responsibility for her team losing and refused to bring anyone back into the boardroom leaving Trump no choice but to fire the lovely supermodel.

Speaking of camping experiences, what is your favorite outdoor recipe? It goes without saying, Smores is a winner with me!  Why wait for the outdoors? Bring the taste of  Smores inside without the hassle of building a campfire.  Here’s a recipe for Microwave Smores.
