Laughs, This Day in History, & #BoTB results

Visit Sandee for Tuesday Fun!

On Friday evening, I had another mishap.  This time I tripped going up our steps in front of our house.  I couldn’t catch myself since I had my hands tucked in my jacket pocket and as I saw that step approaching my face at an alarming speed I threw my head back catching my chin on the edge.  That sounds awful and it hurt but the pain was manageable. I was certain nothing was broken despite the immediate onset of sore muscles and a stiff jaw. I had some pain near my right ear and I felt a slight misalignment of my teeth. Rest assured my teeth survived the clatter. I managed to clamp my mouth tight in the fall.  That was probably a reflex.  Anywho, I followed up yesterday per my dentist to see an oral surgeon and then my primary physician to make sure there wasn’t a fracture.  The good mews is I was right nothing is broken. PTL! The doctor said I had a classic injury.  Basically, if I remember correctly, he said it’s where my lower jaw shifts the opposition direction sorta slamming against the TMJ which causes bleeding/bruising (that’s why my teeth fit mismatched) which in time will fix itself.  I’m on a soft diet for the next 5-7 days to allow my jaw some healing.  The primary doctor made sure everything worked well which is other than the residual soreness but it’s a lot better today than on Friday.  I can lift my left arm up without grimacing. God certainly had His angels (they had to be small ones since they couldn’t keep me from hitting that step hard *wink*)  posted by my side when I had that accident.  All things considering I’m a happy gal and I certainly appreciated y’alls prayers.

Okay, it’s time to get random a bit. One of my goals for this year is to learn something new and then to share it with you, my loyal Kittens and Dawgs!  I can always find interesting tidbits when looking to the past and This Day in History is a great place for inspiration.

John McCausland Image borrowed from Wikipedia

Who is John McCausland?  I didn’t know the name, either. McCausland,  age 90, was a General in the Civil War and the last Confederate to who died on this day in 1927 according to history.com. That’s more than 60 years after the war ended.  What intrigued me about this is that the man was a war criminal and two he lived in my home state of WV. Wikipedia reports these factoids:

After the war, McCausland spent two years in Europe and Mexico before returning to the United States He faced arson charges for the burning of Chambersburg, but was pardoned by President Ulysses S. Grant. He acquired a tract of 6,000 acres  in Mason County, West Virginia, where he lived as a farmer for more than 60 years.

It’s time to announce last week’s BoTB results between Peggy Lee and Dinah Shore.  This was a tight battle until the one fair-haired gal took the lead. The breakdown revealed Peggy snagging Tom, Brian, Eugenia, John, Mary, & Amy’s votes (6) and with Dinah capturing Lee, Stephen, Mimi, Sandee, Debbie, Sandy, Cherdo, Birgit, Mike, and MY votes (10).

Dinah finally pulled out in front to secure the battle and to claim the golden mic award in this showdown.
