Fiddle-faddle. Who uses this word other than me? Come on, let me see a show of hands.
I bet the first thing you thought of when I said fiddle-faddle was of this….
Be honest with me, isn’t this what you thought of? Mm, fiddle-faddle is perfectly popped corn in taste-tempting creamy caramel and toffee flavored goodness, sometimes with peanuts and sometimes without. I won’t turn down, either. On occasion, I have been known to make my version of fiddle-faddle which I’m told is far superior over store-bought kind.
Until recently, I only thought of fiddle-faddle as in the expression, I use often, “Oh, fiddle-faddle!” when I think something is ridiculous or fiddle-faddle as in this sweet yummy treat.
The Free Dictionary defines fiddle-faddle (n) trivial, nonsense (v) to fuss or waste time.
What I didn’t know is Fiddle-Faddle is a classical piece by Leroy Anderson.
The Urban Dictionary has several meanings for fiddle-faddle which are totally new to me, but I won’t expand upon these as many are a wee bit too embarrassing. I’ll leave it up to you to get to do the research, if you’re interested in knowing what that source has to say about fiddle-faddle.
