Brooklyn Blackout Cake with a side of giggles

What’s shakin’ on your end? Not you, you say.  I’ve been shakin’ and bakin’! This morning I’m pulling over time to catch up with all my bloggy buds, so that has me shakin’. Actually I’m currently groovin’ to some tunes spinning on the ole virtual turntable in the background. Yep, I’m boogieing sometimes quite literally in my chair but technically listening a 4M partners’ song picks.  Check out yesterday’s post if you want to boogie, too.

I couldn’t resist sharing the retro commercial for Shake and Bake. On the bakin’ front, I tried a new recipe per DH’s request.  This boy loves to look at recipes. When he finds something that catches his eye then he’s quick to share it with me.  That’s the case with the Brooklyn Blackout Cake I made for Valentine’s Day. He mentioned it’s been something he’s wanted to try for years but forgot about it until recently when something brought it to mind, so he messaged the recipe link to me. My first attempt wasn’t bad! The cake reminds me of PF Chang’s Great Wall of Chocolate without the chocolate chips on the outside.

Another thing I had bakin’ in the oven is Stromboli.  My good friend of many years gave me her recipe but when I went to look for it, I couldn’t find. I concluded it was one of those files that got lost when our old Dell crashed several years ago. I looked at a handful of Google suggestions and decided to try this recipe. Also from recipe site, I borrowed the gal’s Fail-Proof Pizza Dough recipe and I made home-made pizza sauce going by but didn’t follow precisely because I didn’t have the spices. Next time I make pizza sauce then I’ll be sure to get the suggested spices. My recipe was okay but it had too much of something that DH wasn’t crazy about, so hopefully I can narrow that down on my next attempt.

Like last week,  I’m pulling funnies from my file reserve to give you a dose of giggles and smiles.

I wonder how long this guy lived after wearing this shirt? lol
I’ve been there done that and agree it doesn’t work. 😀
That’s a good one!
That’s the look I get after drinking three cups of coffee.

That’s it for now. I’m playing catch up after an extra long weekend, so excuse me while I grab another cup of coffee and head off to tackle all things bloggy.

Today I shall attempt to visit Sandee for some Happy Tuesdays giggles at Comedy-Plus, check out Random Tuesday Thoughts with Stacy Uncorked, and finish things up with Eugi’s Causerie for some inspiration with her weekly word prompt.  You know just in case my inner poet side wants to escape.

By the way,  on Saturday I kicked off  my mid-month Battle of the Band and I hope you have time to vote in this showdown before the ballot box closes on Friday.  I’ll be back with Wild Wednesdays, the blog promoter linky party where just about anything goes. I hope to see you tomorrow! 😉
