Gas Prices Rocketing Again

Gas prices are up $1 from last year this time.  The fact of the matter is with the civil unrest in the Middle East, the occasional natural disaster, and our governments own greed then we are certain to pay big bucks at the pump.

Early reports are predicting the gas pump to jump to $5 per gallon by Memorial Day weekend.   If this pans out, then it will feel like we’re paying an arm and a leg for gasoline. Doesn’t this scenario give you a sense of déjà vu from Labor Day weekend 2008?

The US is too dependent on foreign oil supply. It’s time for our government to get pro-active in finding solutions at home. Did you know the US oil reserves both onshore and offshore could offset rising demands while increasing jobs, and stimulating the economy? Also, it would help us to not be so reliant on oil supplies from unstable and often times hostile countries.

Sounds pretty good, huh? What’s the holdup? Simple, it’s our elected officials and the current administration.  How can we help?  Our congressmen are put in power as a representation of our wishes, not theirs. We, the people, are the voices of our elected representatives. We need to imply our congressmen to open the domestic doors to our nations’ natural energy reserves to break the bondage of Middle East controlled oil supply for Americans.

Meanwhile, the government can do something immediately to ease the pinch on our wallets.  The President can suspend all taxes on our gasoline, temporarily, while Americans face hard times at the gas pump. This would be a savings of almost half a dollar per gallon.  That’s a huge saving, huh?  This simple small measure will allow Americans to feel good which will make it more likely for them to spend their money elsewhere providing the economy with a little boost.

To make your voice be heard, contact your representatives to request Obama help Americans by putting on hold all taxes on gasoline.
