#a2zchallenge & #SkywatchFriday Dam view

For my shutterbug enthusiasts, welcome to the fourth day of A-Z Challenge! I have signed on for the entire month of April to post daily, excluding Sundays, with the alphabet prompt. Do you know what the 4th letter is? That’s right! D, as is in dam (not damn) view. More precisely, Fontana Dam.

IMG_1179Just across the Tennessee state line in the neighboring state of North Carolina is the tallest dam in the eastern United States at 480 feet. More than 11,000 acres captures the Little Tennessee River to form Fontana Lake and produces hydroelectric power for TVA residents.

The Visitors Center is a great place for folks to get information about stuff to do in the area and while there it’s a nice educational experience to look back in history with the museum exhibits of the dam’s construction in 1941 and the town built around the project. To read more, click here.

On the observation deck just outside the Visitors Center, I took these photos.

Fort Loudon Dam Collage 1Fort Loudon Dam 2 CollageBy evidence of the vivid blueness of the sky, you might have guessed this day trip was spectacular for picture-taking, enjoying the outdoors, and roadside picnic. Of course, living in God’s country every day is a blessing when spent surrounded by His beauty.

Looking back at these photos, I can’t believe it has been almost 4-years since we visited Fontana Dam. The August outing was refreshing, and I plan to get DH to take me back before this year zips by.

Do you have a beautiful spot near a dam to visit in your area?

Linking up with other photographers each Friday from around the world for their skywatch perspective, here. Come join the fun!
