Blogger’s crazy data loss incident last week caused the wheels and gears in my brain to consider moving my blog elsewhere. I realize no website is perfect but nonetheless, the thoughts are there. I asked your opinion about the pros and cons of using Blogger and WordPress. Some of you were kind to share your experiences, too. Thanks for your insight!
On Tuesday, I was fortunate to talk with Amanda. During our phone conversation, she recommended I buy WordPress for Dummies. Not that I’m a dummy, of course, but she told me she had a dozen or so books on WordPress and have found this one to be the best amongst her library of similar topics. She’s taken the guess out. In fact, she always suggests this book to her friends in the political arena looking to begin their own WordPress blog when they seek her advice.
Despite getting my post recovered from last week’s disaster, one thing gnaws at me still about Blogger. Someone said I do not own my blog while using Blogspot and for whatever reason, my blog can be pulled without further access on my part. My hard work would no longer be accessible to manipulate as I please but at the whim of someone else. What? Could this be true?
For now, I’m going to continually back up my Blogspot blog using the ‘Export’ feature under Settings. In case you didn’t read my Saturday post I recommend that you do and to also take charge over your blog work. I plan to buy Amanda’s book suggestion to learn all I can while evaluating all possible avenues. There’s a greater chance than not, I will make the move to WordPress.
