Last week, I took you along with me to Highlands, North Carolina in my Monday Morning Musings post, and as promised I am sharing today some of the waterfalls I saw along the Cullasaja Gorge.
At Dry Falls you can park your car and hike to the falls on a paved path. You can even walk behind the falls if you don’t mind getting a little wet. You should be able to see the far side of the path beneath the falls. Click to enlarge the image for a better view. We ventured underneath the falls years ago when the children were young, but it wasn’t that warm on Saturday to risk getting damp by rushing water’s spray.
Bridal Veil Falls is beside the road. We could have stopped on the road to take this picture if traffic permitted and it was safe. I wouldn’t recommend that since the road has blind curves on both ends of that small stretch. However, there is a large area just to the left of the falls to park your car. There were several tourists snapping shots, while I captured my photo.
There are other waterfalls along the Cullasaja Gorge, but these were the easiest and most accessible for us. Next time we plan to be in the area I will map out the other locations in case I get a chance to check them out for photo ops.
From Highlands, NC we traveled toward the South Carolina state line. Our destination Whitewater Falls, the highest waterfall (411ft.) east of the Rocky Mountains. This is the first time in many years we’ve visited the falls. There is a large parking area with picnicking facilities near the trail head. The hike to the summit is a 0.5-mile paved trail with a moderate incline. It isn’t too difficult. In fact, we passed two elderly people using walking poles. Their traverse was slow-going but otherwise did well. I applaud them for keeping active despite physical limitations that come with age.
The day was absolutely gorgeous. It was a real treat to get outdoors to take in the sunlight and scenery. I am looking forward to more spring-like weather and photographing fun days ahead. I hope you enjoyed the views. I’ll see you next week!
News announcement: Starting this week, I will be featuring a fellow WW photographer who each week from my linky party line up. That being said, allow me to introduce you to <<Louis’>> California Travels!
