Born in Brooklyn, New York June 17, 1943 as Barry Alan Pincus, this young artist later his mother’s surname at the time of his bar mitzvah.
The songwriter never saw himself as a singer, but wanted his songs to be heard. In the 1970s his career skyrocket with his first #1 hit, Mandy, leading to more popular tunes through the end of the decade.
During the course of his life, Manilow has earned money as a pianist, produce, and arranger. He has written commercial jingles, Broadway musicals, and music for Bette Midler & Dionne Warwick to name a few.
Saturday Song-suasian proudly spotlights the music of the POP icon ~ Barry Manilow!
A few of my personal favorites include:
At #1 in the charts in 1977…
# 3 in 1978…
In 1979, this song hit #9…
Rounding up today’s tunes ranking 10th on the list in 1980…
Did you know that Barry Manilow was married once in 1961? The marriage only lasted a year and I cannot find a whisper of any other martial relationships involving the man. This is really interesting, and yet I feel for him with his sorta solitaire lifestyle. I hope he can really smile without someone special in his life other than his music.
What songs come to mind when you think Barry Manilow?
