6 Heart Songs from the 70s #RMF

This is the second annual Roctober Mewsic Festival hosted by Mary from Jingle Jangle Jungle and I’m happy to join along with her in the fun.  I always considered myself a soft rock to middle of the road rock gal but in the last 10 years, I realized that my rock n’ roll roots lean a little heavier and harder than I first thought.  This month, I’m revisiting some of the classic 70s bands that I loved as a preteen/teenager and you’re welcome to come along for the ride.

I invite you to hit play to enjoy the set as we listen today to 6 Heart songs from the 70s.

The first three songs I remember quite well but the last two are new to me which I discovered in my search. I really liked them.  The 1975 song titles are from Heart’s Dreamboat Annie debuted album.  🎸Crazy On You (1975); peaked #36 US Billboard Hot 100 charts the summer of 1976. 🎸Magic Man (1975) became Heart’s first US top 10 hit peaking #9 on Billboard Hot 100 chart.  🎸Barracuda (1977) from Little Queen album; spent 20 weeks on the US Billboard Hot 100 charts peaking at #20. 🎸How Deep It Goes (1975) is Heart’s first released singe but got very little attention in Canada under the small record label. It wasn’t until after their second release, Magic Man, backed with this song did Canadian radio station picked it up. 🎸Heartless (1977) released as a single after the reissue of Crazy On You.  The song hit the 24th spot on Billboard Hot 100.  Heartless and 🎸Without You were the only two singles to come from the band’s Magazine album.

Did you know this band was once known as The Army, White Heart, and Hocus Pocus? The group finally settled going by simply Heart in 1970. Another interesting factoid about this American rock band is they first became popular in Canada. The group lost their mojo beginning in 1980 but made a successful comeback in the mid-80s. The band is currently on hiatus and at some point, I think I need to give their newer song titles serious consideration. Who knows maybe I’ll do Whatever Happened post on Heart.

Before I scat, let me reveal the winner of my Oct. 1st ‘I (Who Have Nothing) BoTB showdown.  It was a tight race practically from the start. At one point, Cocker pulled of Bassey with a two-point lead but then a couple of straggling voters came in leveling the playfield again. I hate to say it, folks, we have ourselves a tie 7-7. Here’s how y’all pitched your votes.

Shirley Bassey –  Tom, Mary, John, Lee, Sandee, Birgit, & Mimi

Joe Cocker – Debbie, Janet, Stephen, Cherdo, Amy, Mike Spain, & Eugenia

I gave up throwing in my vote a long time ago. After all, I picked the artists I enjoyed best to put in my battle and figured my people would decide who earns the golden mic award. 😉 Thanks to everyone for making it an interesting showdown. For newbies, there’s another battle slated for Oct. 15th. Visit Stephen for the complete list of BoTB participators to check out more showdown results or request to join the party.

I hope you’ll travel with me back in time tomorrow with another edition of Rocktober Mewsic Festival!
