U.S.A Olympics Beginning to Now!

Let the games begin…

Fourteen intrepid U.S. Olympians from Princeton University were the first American pioneers to participate in the first modern Games in Athens in April 1896.

Not expecting much of the team, they soon stunned the world earning an impressive 11 Olympic championships and essentially creating the U.S. Olympic movement.

Charlotte Cooper, a British woman, was the first ever female to compete in any Olympic event at the 1900 Paris games.

Athletes of the past paved the road for athletes of the future. Here is a look short peak of the Olympic gold medal winners for the summer games going on in London…

Missy Franklin, a 17-year-old who attend Aurora’s Regis Jesuit High School wins the first gold medal in the 100-meter backstroke.

Ryan Lochte, 27, wins the men’s 400-meter individual medley swimming event.

Gymnastics is perhaps my favorite summer Olympic event. U.S. gymnasts: McKayla Maroney, Kyla Ross, Alexandra Raisman, Gabrielle Douglas, & Jordyn Wieber earn gold medals in the Artistic Gymnastics women’s team final.

The 2012 Summer Olympics will end on August 12th. Be sure to show your Olympic spirit by cheering on your favorite athlete while enjoying the games. There’s a bit of an Olympic hopeful in all of us!
