Good-day, kittens and dawgs! The weekend is here and it’s a long one at that. Whoo-hoo! Let’s bridle our enthusiasm briefly…okay, that’s enough bridling! Really now, let’s get serious. Stop laughing! Okay, few weeks ago, I shared Clear Skies over Moses Cone Manor with you and today I’m taking you back for a peek at a beautifully tranquil lake situated not far from that Blue Ridge Mountains’ estate called Bass Lake.
The Blue Ridge Parkway crosses Blowing Rock, North Carolina only minutes from Moses Cone Manor. There are two ways to reach the lake. One is from mansion’s ground along one of hiking trails. The path was too over grown to suit us, so after talking to a park ranger we learned the lake is accessible by car. For your convenience and reference I captured a Google Map screen shot of the area.
Bass Lake is lovely, peaceful place. A walking trail circles the lake and although we didn’t take it I’m looking forward to doing so next time, as well as another chance to get more picture.
How are things shaping in your sky? What sorts of things captivated your shutterbug side?

I’m sharing my photo-art with the SWF team. Now, I’m joining Lexa in Celebrate the small things.
I’m celebrating…
- all the fun DH and I had last week watching Three Billboards Production film a movie scene with Frances McDormand. You can check out my photo shot, here.
- the many awesome brave and proud U.S. servicemen/women (living & deceased) for the sacrifice they made to keep America safe. Thank you and God bless!
- after being reminded last week by Stephanie Faris of the gift of my eyesight to see our beautiful world. I can’t image living in a dark world or even a silent one like a deaf person.
- DWTS contestant, Nyle DiMarco, a model/actor born deaf, won with his professional dance partner, Peta Murgatroyd (see video of one of their last dance performances).
What are you celebrating?
Let’s begin celebrating with Friendship Friday and Friday Features linky parties where you’re sure to make new friends and get lots of inspiration!
That’s a wrap for now, but if you like music then I invite you to come back Monday for Mewsic Moves Me. Until next time, have a fototastic weekend!

I loved your Ebbing, Missouri/Sylvia, NC story! Frances is the bomb! (She must be ’cause she dropped an f-bomb, right? lol) Thanks for the awesome Bass Lake pics! Have a lovely weekend. 🙂
Lexa, I’m glad you enjoyed the post. I not only enjoyed the photo shoot, but pulling the post together in a fun way. I was surprised that some already knew before hand it was a film set. Thanks for dropping by for a visit!
What a wonderfully moody and atmospheric picture. Cathy, thanks so much for visiting my blog and for pointing me in the direction of Skywatch Friday
Keith, so glad I could direct you to a new photography hop! 🙂
Pretty shot and location, and thanks for including the map. At first I thought you were referring to Bass Lake here in California!!
Peter, you’re the second person to reference a different Bass Lake. Talk about a long drive yours would have been for me. Luckily, mine is less than 4-hours from us. 🙂
Beautiful lake.
Liz, yep, I agree!
I’ve never heard of the lake, but it’s beautiful. Going to such places is always so calming, as if one can breathe it all in and feel at peace.
Looks inviting. I’ve never heard of this Bass Lake, but when I was in junior high and living up near Chicago, my family used to go trailer camping at a Bass Lake in Indiana. It was a very different setting, crowded with nary a mountain in sight. It was a different kind of fun.

Lee, you and another guy mentioned different Bass Lakes. I think it’s kinda interesting because you referred to the one in Indiana and Peter mentioned one in California where you live now. Have you been to Moses Cone Manor on the parkway? If so, you can see Bass Lake from estate. I will have to share that another time.
Never been to the Manor. Haven’t even been on the Blue Ridge Parkway that many times and when I did, I didn’t stop to see many things. I’ll bet there is a Bass Lake in just about every state that has several lakes. Bass fishing is a popular fishing sport.

Lee, fishing for bass is a popular sport. I can’t say that I’ve had it, though. I like fried catfish, if fixed right. I once had trout; unfortunately the experience wasn’t the best as they left the head on. It’s creepy eating something that’s staring at you. ? I swore, if I ever ordered it again that I’ll ask if it has its head or not. lol And, yes you’re probably right about there being multiply Bass Lakes. I just thought it was kind of neat, though.
That looks like prime moose spotting territory!! Beautiful and so wide open. Love it. I’ve never watched the dancing show — it’s one of those things I always say “I should watch that” and then I forget. But that was lovely performance.
Les, it would be cool if moose were in our area, but the best we can hope for is elk sightings and that’s rather awesome. Several years ago the NPS re-introduced elk on the NC side of the Smoky’s. We’ve been fortunate to see them on occasions, too. I’m not sure how wide spread the western North Carolina elk have migrated. Blowing Rock is a 2-hour drive north of Asheville. Now, I’m curious to look into this matter. I’m sure there’s ample supply of smaller wild life that lives near Bass Lake. I bet even larger critters pass through the area, but those sightings are few and far between. WOW, I’m a bit surprised you haven’t ever watched DWTS! We really enjoy it and they usually have some interesting and entertaining match ups on the show. Some times they’ll have a star with some sort of handicap, like Nyle. His ability to follow Peta’s body language, signals, & lead is amazing! I think he could cross from modeling into an acting career perfectly. I hope he has lots of success in whatever area he pursues.
Bass Lake looks like a beautiful spot to relax and spend an afternoon. That’s really interesting about watching a movie being filmed. What a neat experience. Wonderful celebrations, all. Enjoy your weekend!
Hi, Cathy!
Bass Lake certainly does look like a tranquil spot. Thanks to you, your travels and your posts, Mrs. Shady and I are getting many new ideas about places to go and things to see.
The gifts of sight and hearing are blessings that we often take for granted. Even the ability to feel pain is a gift. Without it, we would never fully appreciate life’s pleasures. The simple pleasures are the best.
I am thankful for the opportunity to see my grandson this weekend and celebrate his first birthday!
Have a safe and happy weekend, dear friend Cathy!
