Stars & Stripes America

Good morning, Kittens and Dawgs!  What happened to June? I mean, one minute it was here and the next POOF! Alrighty, it’s a brand new month.  How was your weekend?  Ours was nice, really nice because DH took much of Friday off because he had some comp time that he needed to use before June 30th.  There’s nothing like cutting things close, eh?   We went to Highlands, North Carolina and had a lovely time. There was already a sense of patriotism in the air with American flags and banners like here at the Old Edwards Inn & Spa established as a boarding house in 1878 and now is a famous posh hotel to greet us!

Does that you in the mood to celebrate America’s 242nd birthday?  It’s purrrfectly fitting that this week’s 4M theme is PATRIOTIC” mewsic thanks to this month’s honorary co-host, Musings and Merriment with Michelle.  It’s great having you with us for July, my friend!  In my 8 years of blogging I’ve composed a handful of ‘patriotic’ posts, two of which I invite you to check out are  Patriotic Rock N’ Roll America and Treasures in History!  I don’t know if all of my song selections are patriotic as much as tunes about America, preserving freedom, and those who fight/fought for our country but here’s my Stars and Stripes America playlist.

  1. Suite Madam Blue by Styx
  2. Born Free by Kid Rock
  3. Remember the Heroes by Sammy Hagar
  4. Miss America by Saving Abel
  5. Where The Stars & Stripes & The Eagle Fly by Aaron Tippin
  6. The Star Spangled Banner by Spirit

I’m sorry for not offering any interesting tidbits or the back story of today’s mewsic.  The list is mostly for my record for whenever a  YT video shuts down I can easily replace it. 😉

Colette is experiencing eye problems and isn’t actively co-hosting but you might find her boogieing with us occasionally. I asked that you continue to keep her in prayer.  Right now, I want you join fellow co-hosts: XmasDolly (Party Coordinator), StacyAlana, and this month’s co-host, Michelle on  the dance floor (ONLY link mewsic posts).  Let’s get this party started!

Take to heart these wise words from our country’s 3rd president and stand fast in our nation’s pride to preserve the liberties we love!

Get energized, feel encouraged, be the change the world needs, and begin with “SPARKS” hosted by McGuffy’s Readers. Have a sparkletastic day!

I’m starting my posts a little later in the day than usual.  You know to give me more of that lazy, summery kind of feel to make my semi-hiatus feel more like a break feeling.  😀 Thanks for joining me today.  Keep those tunes playing, your body swaying, and I’ll be dancing with you soon!

X💋X 💋, Cathy

  1. I haven’t been to the Carolinas in forever! I miss being able to include that on a road trip vacation – now we’re a bit too far away for that kind of deal, unless we plan for a longer road trip…but it could happen! 😉

Love all your patriotic choices! Hope you had a wonderful 4th of July! 🙂

  2. A few good songs here, but my favorite is Spirit’s rendition of “The Star Spangled Banner.” That was an interesting band, founded by a father (Ed Cassidy) and (step)son (Randy California). I’m just kind of catching up after a kind of a bummer week. Just haven’t been able to the get the lead out. Hope your 4th was a good one.

    1. John,

Thanks for that interesting tidbit on Spirit’s founder, Ed Cassidy. I’m sorry to hear last week was a bummer. I hope this week is better for you. The heat is getting to be too much for me and we still have a month and a half to go before the worst of it passes. *sigh* I hope I don’t shrivel up.

      1. It might be different in Knoxville, but here in Atlanta, summer can drag on through October. We replaced the furnace and air conditioner just in time for the hot weather. Neither of us can tolerate the hot weather like we used to…

        1. John,

Summer does linger into October but usually, the temps aren’t horrible. We have some warm days but they are quick to fade once the sun begins its descent in the early evening hours. However, I always notice a change in temps when we get to Atlanta. It’s considerably warmer than Knoxville.

        2. We’re further south and further from the mountains, plus the Chattahoochee makes it a little more humid than you would think.

        3. John,

It’s definitely more humid in Atlanta. I recall one December on our way to southern Georgia. This was our first time down that way so late in the fall and was surprised that we had to turn our AC on. I wither when it’s humid here, I don’t think I’d survive easily living any further south than we do. 🙂

  3. Hi Cathy!

I’m finally making my rounds here. I’d like to say it’s been a busy week, but in reality, it’s just been hot and I’ve been a bit discombobulated. Finally getting it together enough to visit everyone in the linky.

Great selection of songs. I especially appreciated the inclusion of Styx. You brought to memory a few songs I had forgotten about.

    ~Mary

    1. Mary,

No worries for the late dance, really. It’s summertime and I expect everyone to be a bit slow on the take. I know I find it difficult to get back to my site to check in once I dance with everyone who links up on Monday. What I really want to do is step entirely away from Blogosphere for a while but am finding that to be a more difficult transition this summer. I’m glad I stirred some memories for ya using Styx. They were so big back in the day it seemed.

  4. Hi Cathy, it seems I accidentally and inadvertently linked non music posts here and it has upset some people very much as evidenced by the nasty comment I have received on my blog. It was truly a mistake and I apologize. I thought I was linking to a Wordless Wednesday link up not a music link up. I would delete the links but it will not allow me. Would you please delete my links here so as to avoid any further problems or nasty comments coming way. Thanks so very much. And again, I am very sorry for my error.

    1. Shelbee,

No apologies needed, really! I’ve made the same mistake plenty of times and again, I’m sorry for the less than polite comment left on your site. That’s something I do not endorse. I don’t believe Linky Tools has the option to delete one’s URL. That has to be done by the moderator. However, your request got me to thinking and so I sent the owner the suggestion to add this feature to Linky Tools. I think it would be an excellent add to this little program.

  5. Hey Cathy,
Hope you had a wonderful 4th of July. Your trip to S Carolina and the visit to that beautifully restored Inn sounds fantastic. LOVED seeing the photo. Gorgeous door! I’m into doors…
GREAT list of songs for us this freedom holiday. I love Suite Madame Blue and was so impressed to see it because I’m featuring that song also in my upcoming Blue Edition of my Color Songs series. That song is so awesome. I also really like Kid Rock’s Born Free and Sammy Hagar’s Remember the Heroes. GREAT choices!
I like Aaron Tippin’s song too. I never heard of Saving Abel before. I’d give them a go again…
And I never heard the Star Spangled Banner by Spirit either so there were some neat surprise nuggets here. Thanks!

The week is going by so fast already. My God, is it Friday tomorrow already? Where did today go??? Arrrgh…

Oh, and a great chuckle with “Proud to be an Americat!” Lol. Loved that!

    1. Michele,

The Old Edwards Inn is gorgeous! It would be awesome to stay there but it’s a bit out of our price range.

I’m glad you enjoyed my patriotic song playlist. I didn’t know too much about Kid Rock until a few years ago when our son-in-law won a Harley Motorcycle after entering their short writing contest Rebel theme. Included in his win package was the presentation ceremony at a Kid Rock concert. I think Kid was on stage, too. Anyhow, I began listening to some of his stuff familiarizing myself with him and found that I actually liked some of his mewsic with “Born Free” being one of my favorites. Sammy Hagar is a taste of the oldies. It seems my parents may have listened to him and I had all but forgotten the name until a recent reminder. Thanks for boogieing with me. This month will vanish on us in a snap of a finger.

  6. Happy 4th! Music is such a great way to celebrate, and I’m right there with you. Proud. Glad your hubby was able to take a little time off with you. I’m looking forward to that happening soon.

    1. Crystal,

Anytime I can spend time with DH is a good time. Thanks for celebrating this Independence Day through mewsic with me!

    1. Eugenia,

We had a peaceful 4th browsing in a few stores. I wore my red pumps, a white skirt, and blue blouse with DH sporting his flag shirt & kakhis. There saw a few others wearing patriotic themed shirts. I would’ve liked to have seen more, though.

    1. Donna,

Aaron Tippin was a new discovery for me but with my love God and country then it was purrrfect match-up for our patriotic theme. I’m so glad you joined me on the dance floor this morning! 🙂

  7. Totally rockin’ my friend! I don’t think I’ve ever heard this song by Styx, but very intriguing I’d say… Your list is totally rockin’ & Kid rockin’ got me tappin’ on my desk to say the least. Sammy Hagar is one of Dave’s favorites… & unfortunately I need to cut this short cuz Charlie is going bonkers again. I don’t know why he’s obsessed with the mailman and he goes crazy! HAPPY FOURTH my friend. I pray some day that we could meet in person just so I can give you a really big hug!!! HAPPY FOURTH TO YOU & YOURS! hugs

    1. Marie,

Thank you for stopping by to boogie with me, girlfriend! Charlie is still a pup and learning. He’ll probably mellow out with time. 🙂

  8. That doorway definitely puts me in the July 4th mood–thank you for that. RT because you’ve done Independence Day so much better than my upcoming blog (though I too have music!).

As a teacher, July has long been my favorite month, mostly because it’s entire undisturbed by any school responsibilities. Sigh.

    1. Jacqui,

Thanks for rockin’ with me and for the RT. You’re the bestest! 😉 I love that doorway!! I hope you have an excellent month with no school worries to contend with. I can’t believe how quickly this year is disappearing. Soon, we’ll be celebrating Christmas.

  9. Nice collection of songs. 🙂 Happy 4th of July to you, Cathy! We are celebrating Canada’s 151st birthday this long weekend. Kid Rock is pretty cool dude with some good tunes! Sammy Hagar also. Hard to believe it’s July already. Enjoy!

    1. Debbie,

I knew Canada celebrate its birthday close to us. So, happy bday to America’s younger sister, Canada! 😉 I’m having hard time accepting it’s July already. Where is the time going?

  10. Love the video. Love your list.

Love that kitty and I linked this post to Awww Mondays.

Have a fabulous day and a wonderful 4th of July, my friend. ♥

    1. Patrick,

Thanks for joining me on the dance floor, my friend. I’m glad you enjoyed my mewsic and photos! Try to not eat too much on the 4th. 🙂

  11. Hi, Cathy!

I swung by CaaC at 5 am looking for your new post, and when I didn’t find one, thought you were taking the day off. 🙂 It’s great to see you, dear friend!

Thanks for showing me the Old Edwards Inn & Spa. I clicked to visit their site. The place looks immaculate inside and out. Looks like they serve great food there, too. I will keep it in mind in case Mrs. Shady and i travel through that part of North Carolina. We have been planning a trip through the region for several years now.

I know all six of your featured mewsic artists, but never heard any of those songs or covers before today. I enjoyed all of the songs and corresponding videos because they prove that patriotic songs can be performed in a variety of styles. They are all a far cry from the type of patriotic and historical songs recorded and turned into hits by Johnny Horton beginning in 1959 with “The Battle Of New Orleans.”

Thank you for the mewsical menu for Independence Day, dear friend Cathy. I offer a prayer for Colette and wish you and your family a safe and restful holiday week!

    1. Tom,

Goodmorning! I knew I’d stump you with my later than normal appearance in Blogosphere but I’m taking a more laid-back approach to my partial blogging break. 🙂

The Old Edwards Inn & Spa is gorgeous but it’s too expensive for us. If you can afford it, then I’m sure you’d love it! You guys would love the Highlands area. The town is so quaint and not far from it is the Cullasaja Gorge which is dotted with many waterfalls. Just search my site using the keyword ‘Cullasaja’ to see photos I’ve shared in past posts. Let me warn you that particular stretch of highway is VERY narrow & curvy but if that doesn’t intimidate you then it’s worth the drive. Should you ever stay there then you’ll have to tell me all about it. 😀

I’m glad you enjoyed my playlist. I hope y’all have a safe & fun Independence Day celebration!

  12. What a rockin’ (and country rockin’) list. You did capture the feeling you wanted to. A couple of these I wasn’t familiar with but (for the new ones) I especially enjoyed the Kid Rock song. It was great hearing Sammy Haggar and Styx again. And the different take on the National Anthem was fun. Have a great week, Cathy.
