Songs to start 2025 or songs to motivate you for the New Year

Posted on January 12, 2025

Friday we had our first winter snow storm which lasted into Saturday leaving us about 3 inches.  It’s been so cold that very little has melted. Today is suppose to be sunny and a bit warmer which will help until the sun goes down to refreeze everything.  This is winter and stuff like this happens. I’m just glad I don’t live up north. Y’all have real reason to complain.

Welcome to Monday’s Music Moves Me on Sundays!  This week’s theme is Songs that says new start or songs that motivate you for the new year!

Every day is a new beginning, yet we act like this happens at the start of a new year. The song I went with is one I’ve heard but didn’t pay a lot of attention to the lyrics. This verse really grabbed me

Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins
The rest is still unwritten

Unwritten released in November 2004 on Natasha’s debut album with the same name.  It was written by her and two other artists.  The song became the theme for MTV reality series The Hills. The song peaked #5 on Billboard Hot 100 chart making this the first US top 10 hit for Natasha.

Music themes are only suggestions.  I don’t care one what kind of music it is, as long as you share music. Now, it’s your turn!

This is a music link up.  Your post must contain at least one song or your URL is marked “No Music”.

The past two years, we’ve made big changes to keep our online privacy away from government, corporate, scammers, and hackers.  No matter what protocols you put in place there are some smart evil people out there ready to do you harm.  My blog home should be a safe place with none of these worries and yet I get bombard with tons of spam comments. I feel fairly confident these are getting  caught and you can always tell they aren’t real but what about commenters who go to pending who you never heard of before and they don’t have blog to check out or nothing on their profile?  I ask this because I got one left on one of my pages the other day. Maybe the person is legitimate and again maybe not. I decided to close comments on all pages.  I figured if someone really wants to leave a message then they can do so one of my posts or send a direct email.  Out of curiosity, what do you do in this situation, approve the comment, keep it in pending, or delete it? I’ll look forward to your views.  Have a boogietastic week!

There you are! I think I commented via Facebook but I do like to comment here. I just delete any. It seems you must get a lot more. They are annoying but look at how many follow you and enjoy what you post? That is gold. I enjoyed the song here and that kitten made me laugh. I have a picture of my little tyrant Lexi, who put her head through a hole in my table cloth. My table cloth was not damaged as it has decorative holes. She is my cutie.

That is a great song. Perfect for the New Year. As for comments, if it is weird or some one I don’t know or looks funny it gets deleted quickly. I check my comments page for anything weird on older posts.

Thanks for hosting and I hope that you have a wonderful week.

I loved the song, Cathy, and we got snow, as well. The neighborhood kids even built a snowman that is still standing.

Regarding comments, I don’t get many unwanted comments. However, I have my own rules: Links that go nowhere are spammed and then deleted; links where someone wants me to follow their blog are spammed and deleted; comments such as ‘beautiful’ or ‘nice’ from bloggers I don’t know are spammed and deleted. I don’t have a comment form on my pages; only on posts. Have a great week ahead, Cathy! 😘

I turned off comments on all of my pages. I get a lot of obvious spam which gets held in my spam folder. Jetpack does an excellent job stopping most if not all of these commenters. I would think if someone didn’t have a blog and is a reader only that the commenter would mention this so to not leave a big question mark in the blog owner’s mind. After reading everyone’s thoughts, I decided to just delete that comment and see what happens. I hope the snow is all gone there. It has nearly all melted away here and we’re currently in the 40s. It feels like a heat wave compared to what we’ve had. Of course, it’s suppose to drop to 19º overnight. UGH!

I agree Jetpack does a great job with spam. If a comment seems fishy, I have no problem in deleting it.

Most of our snow is gone, but our overnight temps are forecasted at 24. Brr!

Up north winter is magical and wonderful. When winter hits in the south it is awful because you are not set up for winter and you have so much ice.

I think the snow is beautiful. I agree it’s magic and wonderful but I really don’t like cold weather. It’s true in our neck of the woods, the city/state aren’t equipped to deal with wintry precipitation. They were once upon a time before liberal politicians decided it best to cut back in this area to use the money on totally useless programs that shouldn’t even be funded with tax payer money. Oops, I ranting…anywho, we grew up in southern WV. We got some good snowfalls growing up and I remember praying the snow plows would break down so that we wouldn’t have to go to school which never, ever happened. Where we live now, if a flurry drops they’re calling off schools or call for a delayed schedule. It’s quite ridiculous at times. Sigh! I’m happy you enjoy the weather where you live, though. I do love your photos of your pups in the snow. 😀

As far as I know no comments have gone through that I don’t know about. The one in question I found waiting in my Pending folder. Usually the others are thrown into my Spam folder. I’m getting more suspicious of these sorts of things and rather err on the conservative side instead of opening a potential can of worms. Thanks for sharing!

Good song. Cute kitty. I read somewhere that someone shut off their comments and invited them on her Facebook page or on X. I’ve been tempted to do that…

I wouldn’t like the idea of turning my post comments off. I’m rarely on Facebook and I don’t have an X account. Thanks for sharing, though.

Great song for a new beginning, any time of year.

My comments always go to spam if you have a WordPress post, even though I am logged in to WordPress and am using my Reader to comment. The few comments I get from someone I don’t recognize, if there’s no link to something suspicious, I approve it. If they later come back and leave links, I’d delete them always, but that’s never happened.

Isn’t that odd? Sometimes yours do go to my spam folder or pending folder and I can’t figure that out for anything. Some others have do the same. I use to approve anyone who looked legit but I’ve grown more cautious with all the hackers/spammers getting more clever and then there are issues with plugins being spyware which I’ve removed anything that I’m not using from my site and am taking another more closer looking at each one. Thanks for sharing, Mimi!

I had never heard of this artist but I loved the song, especially when she sang with her backup singers. And, I am confident that you have more snow on the ground than I do where I live in the northlands as of right now. The weather has been so bizarre this winter. As far as your other commentary, we all have to be so careful of the bad actors in today’s world. Distrust should be our philosophy and that’s such a sad thing. If I get a comment I’m not sure about, and it is a commenter new to me, I will generally give them the benefit of the doubt and delete rather than report as spam. If the comment has nothing to do with my post, it definitely gets reported as spam.

      Alana,

I’m glad you enjoyed motivational song. That’s interesting that we have/had more snow than you but I bet it’s colder in your neck of the woods by at least 5-10 degrees. I really dislike winter a lot! It’s wise to be safe than sorry. I haven’t decided what to do about this commenter but I have no problem deleting the obvious nuisance ones. You just know they aren’t real! Thanks for dancing with me, darlin’!
