WARNING, this is gonna be a longer than usual, kittens and dawgs! I am having a two for all special…again. First announcement is revealing my theme for the annual A-Z blogging challenge event (you can find me at 412 on the list) that’s sure to have us all pulling our hair out (hopefully in a good sorta way) beginning April 1st.
This is my third anniversary to take part and I decided to do something different. I’m going vintage. Originally I envisioned old magazine ads, commercials, music, gadgets, and more. Let’s just say, I’m gonna keep things loose and sorta go with the flow. Hopefully, I will delight and amaze not only you, but myself on this journey with discoveries from the past. I’m calling my theme, All Things Vintage.
Last week’s Singer Verses Songwriter #BoTB showdown I touched on the direction my April theme without hinting, but it’s obvious my song pick falls in the vintage category. This really wasn’t much of a competition and if you guys have kept count then you already know.
I fell for Fallin’ instantly after hearing Connie Francis sexy tones and as much as I like Sedaka I by far prefer him as the songwriter over a singer. His vocals do very little for me and it was a no brainer Connie gets my vote. The singer blew the songwriter out of the water by a 14 to 3 victory. Connie Francis takes the golden mic!
A special thank you to everyone who participated. Don’t forget to see how the other showdowns played out by visiting STMcC Presents ‘Battle of the Bands’ for the list of fellow BoTBers.
Next month will be busy with the #AprilA2Z blog challenge, but I hope to roll my #BoTB posts in with the alphabet prompt and I invite y’all to come back to see what falls Fallin‘ out of my sleeve. 😉
The music doesn’t stop here, feel free to boogie with me to Testing Trisha for Musical Monday and then step out on the dance floor with the 4M crew. This is Curious as a Cathy signing off with a few more songs written by Howard Greenfield and Neil Sedaka sung by the amazing Connie Francis.
This is a quick & painless way for others to find good tunes in Blogosphere by joining my no strings attached music hop. Just add your music post URL below and wha-lah… instant traffic directed to your site. Clever, eh? I thought so.

Nilanjana, thank you for popping in for a visit. I hope we connect during the A-Z Challenge. It’s gonna be lots of fun! Have a good week.
Great theme, Cathy! I love vintage.. can’t wait for your posts!
Lori, I’m excited to pull together this theme choice. It’ll be interesting to learn new things about old stuff. 😀
Oh I can imagine, Cathy! I would get so lost in the research that I wouldn’t get anything posted *laughs*
Lori, yeah I find myself getting absorbed into the info, so in order to not lose track I save a lot of links as I go and use the best ones within my post. I think my posts are going to be longer than I want and this may scare some people off, but I plan to tell folks up front when it gets lengthy and suggest they just bookmark the post for casual reading later on. We’ll see how that goes. 😉
Yeah, that would be a concern for sure. I will be reading no matter how long they get 😉
Wow I actually remember these songs. I think I wasn’t even born then but I remember always having my ear glued to the radio as a little kid. Thanks for the trip down memory lane Cathy
Mary, I remember Connie Francis more so by name, but not her music. I’m sure I heard it growing up, though. It’s nice to find new-old artists to spotlight in my music posts. I’m glad you enjoyed the walk down memory lane!
Yay, I picked a winner!
Gosh – “Breaking in a Brand new Broken Heart sounds like the Everly Brothers, or is it just me??
Love for Connie!! will see you for the A-Z. Best wishes!!
Dixie, yep “Breaking in a Brand New Broken Heart” definitely sounds like the Everly Brothers. I noticed this when I discovered the song, but I didn’t make the connection until you mentioned it. I’ll see for the #A2Z challenge, my friend. Have a good week!
Connie Francis will win every time in my opinion! 🙂
I’m not surprised Connie won. 🙂 Your theme sounds like fun. Looking forward to your posts!
I enjoyed listening to the videos. Thanks!!
I posted them on YouTube
I’m so glad Connie won. Love her voice. The other selections today were just as enjoyable to listen to.
Hey, I’m gong with a vintage theme for my A-Z too!
I think it’s going to be a fun A-Z April.
Jeffrey, are you being a copy Cathy? lol I’ll be looking forward to see your vintage theme spin. Surely, we’ll take different approaches?! It’ll be great fun to see how ours entwines and varies. So glad you enjoyed the other Connie Francis selections.
You are so very good at this Cathy.
I look forward to seeing your posts.
And I do love that song, where the boys are. I’m always stretching my voice to get that tune 🙂
Hope all is going good.
Have a blessed week!
Sounds like a great A to Z theme. Can’t wait to see it.
Liz, I’m looking forward to the A2Z challenge. I’m no where near where I want to be getting my post down in advance. At this rate, I’ll be lucky to have a week’s worth scheduled. *sigh* That’s when the challenge takes on a new meaning for me. Oh well, I do enjoy being under the gun just a bit. That’s part of the fun with this challenge, IMO. Keep your fingers crossed for me!
Excellent vintage song selections – I am looking forward to your vintage show-and-tell as well. 😉
i may be Stressed Out but you’ll be Reckless if you Rock On Said No One Ever
Stacy, thank you for dancing over this morning. I might be singing Stressed Out, in a fun sorta way, by the end of April. lol
These are classics I remember my mum and dad playing these when I was as young as i can remember ….mind you I’m only 21 now 🙂
Have a tunetastic day Cathy 🙂
Steve, Of course you’re 21! Me, too!!! 😀 I don’t remember Connie Francis from my early childhood, but it seems I may have heard of her by the late 60s if in name only. I have a horrible, horrible memory when it comes to music artists. Thanks for popping over and listening to some oldies.
All Things Vintage sounds like a great theme!
(Thanks for stopping by my blog. It’s no problem if people doing the A-Z have to skip a month of CTSM Friday posts. Only if they skip over 2 months of posts will they get removed from the list. I hope you enjoy your 3rd time on the A-Z!!)
Lexa, thanks for reminding how your hop linky works. I’ll be back on track for sure in May, but I hope to find a way to incorporate my regular hops into my A2Z posts next month. It’ll be a tight fit for everything, but I just can’t bring myself to totally postpone my blogging routine.
I’m glad she won and not surprised. Your theme sounds very cool and am looking forward to this
Birgit, I’m excited about the theme choice I picked & hope I do it justice. I’ll be loads of fun learning as I go with All Things Vintage.
That was a sound victory for Connie, but it made sense. Vintage sounds fun.

Lee, Connie did a fantastic job reeling in the votes. Although I loved her from the start, I felt Sedaka would get more votes than he did. I’m looking forward to playing along next month in your blog challenge & having fun with All Things Vintage.
Hi, dear Cathy!
I am a lover of all things vintage and I can’t wait for you to play show and tell with us next month. The outcome of your BOTB doesn’t surprise me. Neil is a sensational songwriter and I also own many of his recordings, but his version of “Fallin'” was overproduced and the echo FX were almost comical. Connie is hard to beat no matter which artist challenges her, and Connie’s version was clearly better, at least to my ears. Thanks for the Connie bonus tracks. I have all of them in my collection, too.
Have a wonderful week, dear friend Cathy!
Tom, why is it we are drawn to vintage stuff? Is it the history or the romance of time forgotten or something else? I think it’s of this and more for myself. I knew Connie’s victory would not be a shocker with the commanding lead she took & maintained in thud showdown, but anything can change at any moment with BOTB. Thanks for checking back, my friend. Have a funtastic week!
