For those looking for the results of my January 1st BOTB, you’ll find the outcome pinned at the top of my site for the next couple of days or you can click here.
Today’s music inspiration came after listening to Devil Woman (Cliff Richards) on The Sound of One Hand Typing. John featured the song in honor of Richards’ 81st birthday in October. Although, I knew the song I wasn’t convinced it was Cliff’s version. Long story short I was wrong but in the process, I found a new-to-me artist. A gal who recorded Devil Woman first. I really enjoyed the original. The quality of the artist’s voice is what I like to hear in a female vocals. Wanting to sample more of her music, I found a 10-song playlist on YouTube and gave it a listen. Not bad, not bad at all! Allow me to introduce to you, Kristine Sparkle!
While you’re listening to Kristine. You might find it interesting to know that she is one of the co-author’s of Devil Woman. Kristine Sparkle birth name, Christine Holmes, was not only a solo artist in the 60s but had a successful run with The Family Dogg. Kristine’s debut album released in 1974, Image, which included remakes of the Chestnuts In His Kiss and Baby, I Love You (B-side of Hokey Cokey). The same cover album also include The Beatles “Eight Days a Week”. A complete track list can be found here. What I found amusing about Kristine is her single from 1975 written about the star of Kojak, King of the Kops which made the Canadian top 50 chart but it was the B-side track, I’m Gonna Love You, Baby I liked the best. What makes an artist an international star is beyond me but Kristine had the voice for it!
Thank you for including me in your Saturday. I hope you enjoyed the music selection and if you want more music, then I hope you consider joining me for Monday’s Music Moves Me on Sunday. Hi, Cathy!
Happy Songsuasion Saturday, dear friend!
I clicked the link to view your BOTB results, but the link does not work. I can’t find that sticky/pinned post, so please let me know if and when you can make the link active. I’m curious to find out who won the battle.
Wow, Cathy, I haven’t heard mention of the name Kristine Sparkle in decades, but I do remember her. Kristine emerged in the late 60s and fashioned her recording career as a counterpart of glam rock superstars David Bowie, Marc Bolan and Garry Glitter, but massive success eluded her. She was a pretty girl with soulful eyes and a clear, sweet voice, the kind you and I like. I enjoyed listening to her version of “Devil Woman.” On song #3, “I’m A Song,” her intimate vocal gets inside your head and massages your mind. I’m sure you know what I mean. It’s relaxing. “Till You’re Loving Me Again” is an excellent song with a nu-country sound like the recordings of Linda Ronstadt. At times, Kristine also reminds me of Karen Carpenter. Can you hear Linda and Karen in her vocals on “Till You’re Loving Me Again”? It can be found on your playlist after “Sweet Butterfly.” It is not track #3. That’s “I’m A Song.” Seems like you’ve got the tracks listed in the wrong order.
I laughed at the goofy cartoon with the McDonald’s sign landing on that woman’s son’s head. If those famous golden arches had landed on his head, they could have added the pun that he is “suffering from fallen arches.” Right? (LOL)
Have a delightful Saturday, dear friend Cathy, and I’ll be back tamale for 4M Monday on Sunday!
Tom,
I’m sorry for the link. I forgot to add it this post and I didn’t hit publish on the results post, but that’s all been corrected. Gee, it’s been a crazy week! I do get the vocal resemblance in Kristine, now that you pointed it out. Often I think an artist sounds like someone but can’t put my finger on who. Thanks for dropping by and as usual being the first person to leave a message. Have a songsational day, my friend!
