Roof Leak, Sad News, T-Rex Hatchlings, Grand Ole Opry, Jack Reacher 2

Good-morning, kittens & dawgs! Home repairs suck the life out of you sometimes. Sheez! We have a problem with our roof and every time we think we have it fixed, it leaks again. smack forehead So…it’s back up on the roof we go, well it’s DH who climbs back up there while I play ground gopher. I’m good with that but I hate it for him.

If that’s not bad enough, we learned on Sunday that DD#2 and SIL are moving to Maine sooner than we thought. I mean sooner like as November 1st! I’m not ready to have one of my children more than a thousand miles from home. It’s hard enough to get with our kids locally as it is and with this move it’s gonna make things nearly impossible to do.  I’m certain with one making this giant leap that another and then another will follow. They are thick as thieves and they have an adventurous side. I can’t blame them. It’s good to experience one’s dreams. This has been a big one for DD#2 for years, too. I have a mixture of feelings right now but mostly I’m gonna be really sad to see them go. They started a GoFundMe to raise money to help with their move. I hope they are successful with this approach.

Please let me know either publicly or privately if you choose to give to DD#2 & hubs moving slush fund, so I can send you my thanks and let them know that you helped. 😉

A few days ago, we were in Home Depot. They have a nice display of Halloween stuff for decorating your lawn and home. I snapped a few pix with my iPhone camera, then I played with one in Pixelmator to share with my gal, Stacy Uncorked.

She and her daughter have a thing for dinosaurs, so I couldn’t resist taking a picture. I call this “Home Depot Goes Jurassic Park”. 🙂 I added a couple of layers of creepy fog to create a little white noise to cover the obvious store surroundings but there’s only so much I can do without a little black magic. Wait, there’s a witches brew going on behind the T-Rex hatchlings. I should have asked for their help!

Friday, we took another trip to Nashville to finish up the shops at the Opry Mills mall. We got there about half an hour before the shopping center opened.  We decided to go back to the gift shop at the the Grand Ole Opry which is right across the street from the mall. Although you can’t really tell it from the photo but it was really foggy and that’s why the sky appears a washed out gray. You just can’t do much photo magic with these kinds of conditions.  I’d really like to see this place at night, though.

We weren’t in there long before the crowds began to come through the tiny shop that’s to the right of this image just above the pickup truck’s bed under the word “Opry”.

Getting to the mall so soon after the shops opened I thought was idea and normally it would be but I noticed almost from the start the presences of little people. I mean school aged kids. I thought, “Shouldn’t they be in school?” It soon became clear that something was going on. I later learned the Nashville schools were on Fall Break. What’s with all these breaks anyhow? We never got such a thing as a “Fall Break” when I went to school.

We finished the other side of the mall. DH found a cute pencil skirt with a side zipper (all the way down with two zipper pulls one from the top and one for the bottom) at Express on the clearance rack for twenty bucks that he got me. I wanted to share a picture of it from Express’ site but couldn’t find one. Oh, drats! You’ll just have to take my word that it’s cute. 🙂

Saturday night, we watched Jack Reacher: Never Go Back on Amazon Prime. Sequels are rarely good follow ups but this second part was good and if you haven’t seen it yet, then I highly recommend it. Check out the trailer.

Did you vote in my latest edition of Battle of the Bands “Don’t Sit Under The Apple Tree” showdown? That being said, I found this new cover by Grace Acoustic Trio. I wish I had stumbled on them to throw in the battle but I didn’t.

I guess that concludes my randomizing. Now, it’s time for Hey, It’s Okay. Amber got the idea from Glamour magazine. Here rules are simple. You can link up any day of the week. All you have to do is make a list of what you’re okay about and she asks to please do not link a post that has nothing to do with “Hey, It’s Okay” because that’s just rude.

Hey, It’s okay.… that DD#2 and SIL want to live a dream, exploring new areas to live even if they are 15+ hours away but it’s okay to be sad and to feel like a part of me is leaving. I always wanted my children to stay near but feared the envitable could happen. Why is letting go so hard? It’s okay to share DD#2 & SIL’s GoFundMe page. After all, you never know who’s willing to help and every little bit adds up like pennies in a fountain. Finally, it’s okay to stop fretting or getting overwhelmed by others’ bad decisions. Everybody makes goofs every single day of his/her life but to purposedly do something that you know you shouldn’t…well, life does bite and you gotta live with the consequences. *sigh* As you might guess this is meant for a specific person but I’m not naming any names. I just needed to vent my frustrations.

That’s a wrap for this morning. I’m taking a coffee break with Stacy, Amber, and Les at the above sites . You’re welcome to come with and if not, I hope you’ll come by tomorrow for not-so Wordless Wednesday.

  1. I imagine it is tough when the kids move away. I know I’d hate it if my kids did that!

  2. Oh, no…leaky roof. Time to call the contractors. Hope you get it fixed. DD2, a rite of passage. Normal, as she finds her place in the world. Prayers! For her and you, too. ❤

  3. Fall Break? What the heck is that? Kids today are never in school.
Sorry one of your kids is moving so far away. I live about that far from my parents and so does my brother, but we do our best to see them once a year.
I’d consider putting dinosaur bones in my front yard…

  4. I know what you mean about the kids moving away. Mine have all left the house but fortunately none are more than about an hour away. They have all come back to do laundry at one point or another 🙂 We had to have our roof replaced last year. We bit the bullet and did gutters and put new siding all around instead of painting. Expensive but it will last for quite a long time now. My DH cannot climb roofs anymore and he takes too long (IMO) to do home improvement projects.

  5. Hi, Cathy!

Our house developed a leaky roof because the branches from a nearby tree raked across in a storm and stripped away the shingles. Fortunately we had a new roof installed before Hurricane Irma struck.

Mrs. Shady feels the same way as you do about her children and our grandchildren. She dreads the thought of them moving too far away. However, with telephones, email, Skype, trains and planes, even Maine is not very far away. Are they by chance moving to Haven? 🙂

We have Amazon Prime and that Tom Cruise movie looks good. I will tell Mrs. S about it. Grace Acoustic Trio is a wonderful mewsic act and I’m sure they would have collected their share of votes in your BOTB.

I wish you a happy Tuesday, dear friend Cathy!

    1. Tom,

I’m trying to stay positive and find the good in DD#2’s move but honestly, I’m concerned about the high cost living in that part of the country for them. You’re right we can feel closer to our loved ones with modern technology and that will certainly help with the adjustment of the 1000+ miles between us. No, DD#2 isn’t moving to Haven. They are going to Portland. 🙂 I think y’all will like Jack Reacher 2. Grace Acoustic Trio have smooth vocals and I love that they play their own instruments. Thanks for popping by, dear friend!

  6. A leaky roof is a pain to deal with, it took us a long time to get ours properly taken care of, too.

The fun part about a child moving is that you get to plan vacations to see new parts of the country with them! (Trying to look on the bright side. Yes, it’s okay to be happy for them and sad for yourself having to miss them.)
