Reliving the 80s Again

Awww Mondays hosted by Sandee from Comedy Plus.

This week on the Monday’s Mewsic Moves Me dance floor, Alana wants us to build a playlist from one decade that was so much fun to do it again!  Gee, I guess that has to be the 80s.  I graduated high school in 1980 and went on to a junior college before getting my degree then began working.  I bounced around from one job to another trying to find my place before settling on my last job. We h

Borrowing inspiration from 50 Best 80s Songs I went with the first five songs that jumped off the screen at me.  I sense the emotion of the titles but can’t recall specific memories which is generally how I connect with an old song.  How about you?    But, wait I found another five songs on 100 Hits of the 80s to round this playlist up to 10 tunes

Reliving the 80s Again playlist includes:  1. I Want to Know What Love Is ~Foreigner  2.  Time After Time ~Cyndi Lauper  3. In The Air Tonight ~Phil Collins  4. All Night Long ~Lionel Richie  5.  The Power of Love ~Huey Lewis and the News  6.  Walk Like an Egyptian ~The Bangles  7.  I Can’t Go For That ~Hall & Oates  8.  Heartbeat  ~Don Johnson  9.  Caribbean Queen ~Billy Ocean  10.  It’s Raining Men ~The Weather Girls

This month’s honorary co-hostess is Alana from Ramblin with AM

❤️🎵❤️🎵❤️🎵❤️🎵❤️🎵❤️🎵

This is a mewsic linky party. Every other week we have a suggested mewsic theme (see side menu) to build your song set around and all participants share YouTube or Vimeo videos for our mewsic enthusiasts.  Failure to meet this basic guideline puts your URL in danger of being removed or labeled – NO MUSIC.

I spoke with Marie on Friday. WOW, she sounded soooo much better!  That shot did its stuff.  Anyway, she mentioned wanting to kick start her old Blogger site and she hopes to join the party using it.  So, if you see our gal linked up again then THAT is the one to follow!

That’s a wrap for now. I’ll be back next week with your choice song picks on the Monday’s Music Moves Me dance floor and I hope you’ll join the party.  Have a boogietastic week!  X💋X💋, Cathy

  1. So, every time I start falling in love with the 70’s, the 80’s draw me back. Between I Want to Know What Love Is, All Night Long, Time after Time (I can’t watch that video without tearing up), The Power of Love (love those clips from Back to the Future), Walk Like an Egyptian, and It’s Raining Men (and yes, all the others) it was such a great time for music. By the way, AARP with an outfit called Daybreaker is offering a two hour virtual dance party Saturday that will be including a performance by The Weather Girls. So this wasn’t just great, it was timely.

    1. Alana,

You can’t go wrong with either the 70s or 80s where entertainment goes. Both decades had great movies and music! “It’s Rainy Men” is such a fun son and those gals sure did enjoy themselves doing the video. Y’all are in for some heavy rain today. I have you and all of my friends in the path of Henri in my prayers. Stay safe, my friend!

  2. Oh, how we love the 80ties and Granny wished she could go back in time there💗 The little twofeet doesn’t like our mewsic style at all, but I’m sure when she’s getting older, she appreciates it as much as we do, don’t you think? We skip this week, CK, because we have a 10 years blogoversary, but with one song, of …the eighties…MOL…don’t know if we may put up the linky🤷‍♀️ That quote touches my heart, we always stand together in the garden just looking and enjoying everything around us✨That little pussycat could be me, I also look at the other side when the others are in line…MOL..Pawkisses for a wonderful week ahead, CK. Hope you have more sun than we have right now🐾😽💞

    1. Binky,

The 80s were fun, especially the music! Sometime I wish I could go back in time, too. It’s a good thing we can’t do it, though. I would be tempted to change things that might have an adverse effect on the future nor would I really want to relive those days all over again. There was so much learning and growing going on. I’m happy to have much of that behind me. Nowadays I continue to learn and grow but it’s different. Congrats on your 10th blogoversary! I always forget to mention my each June. Don’t worry if you don’t join the 4M dance party. Maybe, you’ll be ready to boogie with us for the last Monday in the month!

    1. Eugi,

There’s not a person I know in my online circle of friends who doesn’t like the 80s music. That was the decade of 20s. I think most of my bloggy friends weren’t too far ahead of me in age. We were all young and feeling our best. Thanks for boogieing with me, my friend!

  3. https://thenewxmasdolly.blogspot.com/ So this is the one I’m going to try to get up and rolling! I’ve been saying prayers every night to ask the Lord to please help me get this one rolling. Do you think that’s wrong? Lord, I hope not…. Well, wish me luck anyways… HUGZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

    1. Marie,

Absolutely not! I think when we’re having trouble with things the Lord wants to help us solve the problem. You will get the hang of this and remember, you can call. Sometimes, you just need a jingle of the brain to cause everything to fall into place. 🙂

  4. CATHY, I FEEL LIKE SUCH A JERK…MY HUBBY & I WERE ON this computer all night and just kept drivin’ into brick walls. MISS YOU ALL IMMENSELY! CATHY, I’M SO SORRY… LOVE YOU GIRLFRIEND! HUGS BEEN UP ALL NIGHT TRYING TO FIGURE THIS BEAST OUT – EVEN MY HUBBY AND I PUT OUR HEADS TOGETHER… WE ALMOST BLEW THIS SUCKER UP…GRRRRRRR SEE YOU NEXT WEEK FOR SURE… LOVE YOU ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BE SAFE! HUGS P.S. Oh for pity sakes… so sorry I forgot to hit enter. I’m such a ditz!!!!

    1. Marie,

Don’t beat yourself up, darlin’! When you’ve been away for a long time then it’s confusing and frustrating to get back into the game again but you will get it! Give me a call anytime and maybe I can give you some pointers that you forgot. 😉 Hugs to you, girlfriend!

      1. Cathy you are such a sweetheart! I don’t know which blog to pick anymore… I would really like the blogspot.com, but at this point I’ll pick any that work and that my dumb brain can work it. 🙁 Well, if you’re free one day next week I would like to give ya a call. Just tell me when I can call. I don’t care if I have to set the alarm clock. Now this week comin is what I meant…. Any day, but Tuesday (got doctor’s that day), and there’s one more, but I’ll have to let you know okeeee dokeeeee???? Luv ya honey! HUGS @MARIE M @xmasdolly https://thenewxmasdolly.blogspot.com/

        1. Marie,

I’m available nearly every day this week, except late Thursday afternoon and I’m not sure about Friday yet. Call me anytime, though! If you’ ready to talk today then that’ll work with me. Maybe we can get a post worked up together so others can boogie with you this week!

  5. Life is amazing, i do enjoy going out each day and just watching the beautiful sky.

There’s one in every family, and two in mine. That’s what i always say.

    Thanks for the great music!

    1. Mimi,

I’m usually the one messing up group photo ops. I look away or my eyes are closed. I’m the worse for blinking! All I can say is thank God for digital photography. Photo mess up are detected immediately and can be easily fixed unlike years ago. 🙂

  6. I’m the one that ruins the family photos. I do it on purpose.

Love your playlist today. I’m dancing my way though our home. Thank you.

Love the quote. I do that often. Today it’s a bit smokey from all the fires, but life is amazing.

Thank you for joining the Awww Mondays Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous Awww Monday and week, Cathy. Love and hugs. ♥

    1. Sandee,

I ruin family pix but it’s not on purpose. As I mentioned to Mimi, I usually look away or blink. The good thing is thanks to digital photography you get endless do-overs until you get that perfect picture.

  7. Hi Cathy, what a great playlist! Every one of those songs is familiar and yes, they all have memories attached. We watched Cyndi Lauper perform “Time After Time” in concert a few years ago and she still looked and sounded great. It’s good to see you again and be back in the Blogosphere. Thanks for stopping by The Den earlier. 🙂 I hope you and DH are having a good summer. Cheers!

    1. Debbie,

Cyndi Lauper seems a bit quirky but a whole lot of fun. Her music was so hot in the 80s. She even did some acting and did a good good. Earlier in the summer, we watched “Vibes” with Cyndi and Jeff Goldblum. It was a fun film to watch. Thanks for dropping by, my friend. I’m glad you’re back in Blogosphere once a week now.

  8. Love those cute kitten and I would pick up the one crying for sure. Love the 80s and danced to these songs. Love Walk Like An Egyptian and always tried to do that head movement from side to side. Time After Time was a huge hit for Cyndi Lauper and was played a lot. Great memories. Have a beautiful week ahead. Glad Marie is feeling much better.

    1. Birgit,

“Time After Time” came out right around the time a former boss who wasn’t very old (early 30s) died from a massive heart attack. It was such a horrible thing because just the day before we had a bit of falling out which only made my grieving process painful. Thanks for dancing with me, girlfriend!

  9. Hi, Cathy!

Happy Pawww-some 4M Monday to you, dear friend! I hope you and DH had a nice weekend.

I wanna smooch those kittens! It looks like the one with his mouth open is impatiently complaining to the photographer, “C’mon and take the picture, already. We’re getting tired of holding this pose!” 🙂

I love your set of 80s hits. I will give you a brief blurb revealing memories some of them trigger. Foreigner’s “I Want To Know What Love Is” sparks memories of my first job in Florida, the opportunity that brought me down here in 1984. I was working as a TV news producer responsible for the 11 pm newscast. Every night after the show and my shift ended, I’d swing by the local Subway shop on the way home and order a foot long double meat sub, take it home and eat it while watching NBC’s Friday Night Videos. I remember that Foreigner video being played on the show. Young up-and-coming singers on YouTube are still covering Cyndi Lauper’s 1980s hit “Time After Time.” Pro wrestler Captain Lou Albano makes another appearance in the “Time After Time” video. As you recall, I mentioned that he played Cyndi’s exasperated dad in “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.” Lou also appeared in Cyndi’s videos for “She Bop” and “”The Goonies ‘R’ Good Enough.” The Phil Collins song “In The Air Tonight” is indelibly linked to the tense, suspenseful, iconic scene the first episode of the red hot TV series Miami Vice. Lionel Richie’s “All Night Long” immediately reminds me of that video’s popularity on the MTV style station where I worked after my career in news ended. I used “The Power of Love” as one of the songs in the music bed on a promotional video I produced to attract advertisers to our new music video format TV station. My interest in and admiration of The Bangles has increased exponentially in recent years. That girl band was the real deal and my favorite of the 80s.Hall & Oates epitomized cool, and “I Can’t Go For That” is probably their coolest song among many others. Success breeds success, and Don Johnson’s breakthrough acting role as police detective Sonny Crockett on Miami Vice helped launch his career as a recording artist. “Heartbeat” went top 5 on the Hot 100 and was an international hit. The entertaining music video co-stars actress Lori Singer. Don Johnson is almost exactly the same age as Shady and turns 72 later this year. Billy Ocean’s “Caribbean Queen (No More Love on the Run)” was also used in an episode of Miami Vice. The song was re-recorded and the title changed for single releases in different parts of the world as “European Queen” and as “African Queen. The Weather Girls began their musical career as an act called “Two Tons O’ Fun” and served as backing vocalists for disco singer Sylvester. They hit #1 on the Dance chart with “It’s Raining Men” and earned spots on Greatest Dance Songs and Greatest One-Hit Wonders lists.

To sum it up, I know and love all of the 80s songs presented here! I am happy to know that friend Marie is feeling better. Thanks too for the inspirational meme to end the post. Have a wonderful week, dear friend Cathy!

    1. Tom,

A TV news producer you say…did you ever experience Groundhog Day like Bill Murray? Andie McDowell played the TV station producer. 🙂 That’s such a good movie! WOW, you really have some detailed memories pinned to many of the songs on my playlist. I sure can’t connect events with many songs. Thanks for joining me on the dance floor today, my friend. Have a boogietastic week!!

      1. Of course, in my first story, I meant to say every “Friday” night instead of every night. If I went home from work every night and watched Friday Night Videos, it would indeed be like Groundhog Day. 🙂 The other nights of the week, I stayed up late watching videos on MTV because they fascinated me. I studied the shooting and editing techniques and borrowed ideas from them when I produced my own videos for the MTV style station where I spent the next chapter of my career. Thanks, dear friend Cathy!
