Realistic Rabbit

This is day 20 of the A to Z Challenge.  I created two sketches in 2017 for the letter “R” but I focused only on one of those original drawings.  Although, Easter was this past Sunday it’s still close enough to revamp my realistic rabbit pencil illustration.

I know what you’re thinking, it looks like the rabbit laid an egg.  DH pointed this out and while the thought crossed my mind when I added it to the revised illustration, my idea was for the egg to be partially hidden behind the rabbit.  I can easily change this but that’ll have to wait until I have extra time and I know at which time I’ll find other things about my drawing to fix.

It’s time to head over to the A2Z headquarters and you’re welcome to come with me.  I’m going to leave you with a new-to-me oldie by Cab Calloway, “Run Little Rabbit”.  Don’t worry the Easter rabbit never has to worry with having to run except to hide from little children. 😉  Thanks for including me in your day.  This is CAAC signing off, I’ll be back tomorrow hopefully with the next letter in the alphabet but if you don’t see my post at its early am show then watch for it to show later in the day!

  1. It was perfect reading your post to Cab Calloway. I have to make a suggestion and it’s not that you did anything wrong, just something that struck me…I think the eye of the rabbit in the original might be a little more realistic. The eye in the colorized/updated sketch seems to be a little too far back on the head. Not that I’m any expert on rabbits but one of my cousins in Iowa had a pet rabbit at a time when I lived with them for a couple of months while my husband was in basic training, so I got to see a lot of his rabbit. Anyway, I continue to enjoy these posts when I have time to swing by. Alana ramblinwitham

  2. I love your bunny protecting the Easter egg. You can truly colour and blend nicely. I also enjoyed Cab Calloway and his rabbit song. I listened to Shady’s song too which was fun especially seeing bugs in drag.

  3. Hi, Cathy!

Happy Thankful Thursday and R-Day, dear friend!

You covered R-Day in fine fashion by bringing this bunny back In Living Color. I just wanna smooch the cuddly critter! It is indeed a Realistic Rabbit. So what if it looks like the rabbit laid the Easter egg? In art, rules can be broken and logic defied. Your scene delights me. It looks like the bunny has his sniffer going, and I love the bright green grass and colorful tulips.

In the 1950s, my folks took me to a Cab Calloway show when the jazz singer and bandleader came to a venue in York, probably the York Fair. However, I don’t remember “Run Little Rabbit,” a song he recorded and released in 1941. I’d like to add a rabbit song of my own to your post. It’s “Peter Rabbit” by a little known Iowa group called Dee Jay and the Runaways. Their single, released in September, 1965, sounds a heck of a lot like The Dave Clark Five covering “Woolly Bully,” the big hit by Sam The Sham And the Pharaohs earlier that same year:

As a result of that record, Dee Jay and The Runaways became the only group from Iowa to appear on Dick Clark’s TV music show Where The Action Is..

Thank you very much for the morning art and entertainment, dear friend Cathy. I’ll be back tamale for your S-day post!
