Welcome, Kittens & Dawgs! I mentioned last week I’m not a big fan of winter and unless the sun is shining to make the day feel more comfortable you won’t find me outdoors. Naturally, the holidays and DH’s work schedule prevented us from enjoying some day trips which means missed photo-ops. That’s okay because I have plenty of archived photos that didn’t make the cut to fool with in one of my photo-editing programs.
In 2011 we ventured to historic Rugby, Tennessee. It’s a living Victorian community originally founded by the British in the late 1800s. I thought I shared photos from our trip but I can’t seem to find them on my site. I think I understand why. This picture didn’t turn out very well. It was blurry but I kept it as memory shot (below).
This is a pretty little church. With it being the dead of winter, I thought why not attempt to transform the original spring scene to a snowy one. The first thing I did was crop and convert the image to B&W. The final step was I added a layer using the above free texture grab borrowed from Insight Designs, here. These changes really gave my image a wintry sense. I went a step further with this second creation.
I adjusted the blues and reds in the photo. It gives the image an overall colder effect. It’s a bit surreal but then again it’s meant to be a fantasy creation. What do you think?
Come back for another peek through my lens with my newest edition of Skywatch Friday and get in on the Friday social media action. Have a fototastic day.

Looks cold. :-/ Like, really cold… Fun idea on giving the church a snowy foreground!
Mandy, thanks! I’m glad you could feel the cold, too. 😀
Beautiful pictures, I love what you have done with the photo too 🙂 Thanks for stopping by Cathy. I hate being cold in Winter too. I am looking forward to Spring 🙂
Claire, I’m with you, I’m ready for spring! Thanks for the return visit, dear. Have a good day!
Oh my goodness, I wish I could go see this Church. I love anything that’s old and antique. Ahhhh if walls could talk. Thank you so very much for sharing my friend. Great photos… have a wonderful night. hugs
Marie, thanks for visiting. I love old churches, too. Have a good day and keep warm!
Lovely!
Thanks Deb! 😉
I am a little bit under the weather still today so I haven’t done a WW post of my own today. headaches make computer glare unbearable!! ugh. But I did want to at least pop by and see what you had created and I am glad I did!! I love this little edit!! It actually fits the church perfectly and gives it that fantasy feel. It looks very inviting and like a nice place to stop on a cold winter day. 🙂
Les, I’m sorry you’re still under the weather. Don’t worry about blogging just rest! I’m glad you liked the edit. I had fun making both. It’s great to unleash my creativity this way. 🙂 Take care, sweetie!
All of the pics are so beautiful.
Thanks Patrick! I’ll be over to see you shortly. 🙂
I have to agree with you. Winter is too cold.
Rhonda, Yes winter is cold but having photo-edit fun creating wintry scenes in a warm house isn’t so bad!
Beautiful job! Your photos and blog are lovely! I am a rare person in that I do love winter. I am just not a fan of the ice, but snow is nice. Thank you so much for sharing, and warm greetings from Montreal, Canada. 🙂
Linda, all three of our kids LOVE winter! Neither DH or I can say that we loved winter even when we were young and as time goes by we are less tolerant of the cold. I definitely do not like the ice. That’s horrible stuff and so dangerous! I love seeing the snow swirl and fall from the sky. I even like seeing a beautiful blanket of white on the ground just as long as DH doesn’t have to travel in it. I’m fearful of the ice that waits for him with the accompanying cold temperatures and it can be tricky for our city to properly care for the secondary roads. The main roads are usually treated but the roads leading to subdivisions or out in the country are left at the mercy of Mother Nature to clear. Thanks for stopping by for a visit and have a good day!
I liked the work you did on the photos I am useless at doing that LOL 🙂
Have an edittastic week Cathy 🙂
Steve, you’re very kind. It’s always a delight to have you visit. Have a good day, my friend!
La Iglesia ya es bonita, tan solitaria y antigua, pero con la transformación en paisaje inverna queda más misteriosa y me gusta.
Besos
reminds me the The Little Chapel Of The West in Las Vegas…….very pretty
Karren, thank you for visiting. You know I came by on Wednesday, linked up, got busy visiting everyone else, and just today I realized I didn’t leave you a comment. So, I’m off to do that now. Oh silly me! 😀
Great shot! Thanks for visiting my blog!
Hi Carol, I’m delighted you found your way to my place today and I appreciate your kind thoughts. Have a good day!
I think you did a great job. It’s beautiful.
Have a terrific Wordy or Wordless Wednesday. ☺
Thank you, Sandee! You’re very kind. 🙂 I appreciate you doing a return visit. Have a good day!
Good job putting the church into winter time. We like that a lot. And thanks so much for visiting our blog. You do some great art.
Marg, thank you for the return visit and for the sweet comment. Photo-art is like playtime for me. I’m just a dabbler with this art expression but I do so enjoy it. Have a good week!
Hi, Cathy!
I like your two original shots of the quaint little church in historic Rugby, Tennessee, along with the magical transformation into a surreal winter wonderland brought about by your image tweaking. The blue tint certainly does convey the feeling of cold temperature and the grainy texture overlay completes the effect with a coating of snow and frost. Well done, dear friend!
Thanks for letting me know about a charming Tennessee town for Mrs. S and I to visit in our travels and have a happy Hump Day, dear friend Cathy!
Any time, Tom! I’m glad you liked the photo-edit. There isn’t a whole lot to do in Rugby as I remember but it’s truly a quaint place to visit. I’d like to go again in the spring. Actually, there are several places I’d like to revisit that I’m reminded of going through my photo archives. 🙂 Have a good day, my friend!
